Keona gave a smile and a nod, "Excellent, alright, then Meir will lead your hastar and I will lead you! So that you know the two of us walked all this way here from the city and saw no dragons, so it should we shouldn't have to worry about them trying to bother us on the way back." The only problem in that logic being that since Ataya was bleeding there was the chance that he might attract the wrong kind of attention. If anything showed up with any sort of ill intentions toward the one she was leading then she'd just have to deal with the threat herself was all! Especially since Ataya was hurt and shouldn't be fighting, or at least she thought so. She wanted to protect him to the best of her ability until she handed him off into her father's care.

Giving Ataya's hand a little squeeze she said, "We will get you back to my father as quickly as we can. Don't worry, I am sure he will be able to get you feeling better in not time!" She said, reassuring him as they walked along, back toward Tukyere. Turning to look over at Meir she said, "Keep your nose to the wind, Meir, we want to stay on guard just in case."

The orakoir glanced her way, nodding his head, "Will do." He said, giving a sniff at the air, but between the scent of Ataya's blood and the hastar's musky scent he knew it would be tough to sniff out a dragon. He'd keep that to himself and keep an eye out so as to protect Keona and those that she'd picked up. He had faith in her though, especially since she'd helped to raise the orphaned Meir since he was a little hatchling.

Ataya opened his mouth to note that he was not a hastar and did not need to be ‘lead’ in that way, but then the girl was on again, continuing to sing her father’s praises, discussing potential threats and instructing her khehora. So, he let it go, holding his tongue instead and ignoring the strangeness of having his hand held — and squeezed ‘reassuringly’ — by a stranger. A strange girl. It occurred to him he had never held a girl’s hand, other than family.

Her hand was soft.

As the heat in his face intensified, he dismissed the thought, forcibly turning his attention towards the path ahead. The walk was, fortunately, not egregiously far, and he felt ripple of something akin to anticipation as the sounds of it became evident — and with the sounds, the smells. Voices and footsteps, bells and the clatter of wagons and activity. And food, smoke, sweat, spices, all amesh together on the desert wind as they made their way in. Relief — at having arrived finally and that the city itself truly did exist — alongside excitement, curiosity, and a pinch of regret that he could not see the city despite making it all this way, all swept Ataya, and questions itched at him.

Was it truly the ‘hybrid’ city it was purported to be? It bustled with activity, people everywhere — could they possibly all or even most of them be hybrids? The thought was staggering, and though he intended to keep the musing to himself, the question eventually voiced itself, unable to be held at bay.

“What…percentage of the city’s residents bear hybrid blood? Do you live here as a resident?”

The Only Black Uke

The walk back was one that she felt was rather peaceful even if she had been on high alert due to the fact that there were at least three types of dragons that she knew of that roamed around the sandy expanses of Eowyn. She didn't want to deal with any of them, the Gaili especially, when she had Ataya with her. He was injured after all and it was her duty to keep him away from such dangers! It was because of this that she had given such a happy sound as they finally reached Tukyere and headed through the main gates and into the safety that the city offered them, "Ah! It's so nice to be back." She hadn't really even been gone all that long and yet it still felt like such a relief to be back here once more.

Glancing over at Ataya she gave a thoughtful sound, her wings giving a little flutter, "Hmm, let's see... I'm... not really sure? I mean there are a lot of hybrids here since it's safe here, but there are pure bloods as well. My father says that some of them are supporters, those who don't see those of mixed blood as 'abominations' as some do. Then there are others who have hybrid children and wanted them to have a safe place to grow up. There are even some of pure blood who are in relationships with hybrids. So it's a pretty mixed bags of people with various reasons for being here. All seem to be welcome." She gave a smile before nodding her head, "Yeah, some times we sneak down to Serenia to visit my grandmother who lives there, she's a Dovaa doctor who lives in a tiny village, we live here."

She gave a thoughtful sound then said, "Well, sort of. I mean we have a house of our own, but sometimes we also go out with a hunting party to go hunting, for meat and various things that you can get from hunting, treasure, dragon orbs. It's how our group makes money since my father doesn't really doesn't make a lot from healing." She explained, realizing that while they did live in Tukyere that it wasn't full time. She didn't want to seem as though she was lying to her new friend or anything so best to be thorough!

"Ah! Here we are!" She said, giving a happy sound as she quickened her pace a little bit, pushing the door open, "Dad! Are you in? I have a new patient for you!" She called into the small house as she headed inside, still leading Ataya, half because she just hadn't thought to let his hand go yet. As she looked around the room, spotting Arjan and Abellio lounging there, she told Ataya, "My father has a pair of bonded, but don't worry, their both pretty nice! Abellio even helps with the patients some times!"

There was the sound of footsteps coming their way as Junjie came out of a side room and into the main one, looking toward his daughter and the interesting young man that she had brought home with her. He gave them a once over with his bright green eyes, for a moment focusing on their clasped hands. He wasn't sure what he thought about that he found himself thinking before walking forward toward them, "For a moment I thought that maybe you and Bisera had gotten into trouble again. I suppose if that were the case he wouldn't have exactly been a 'new' patient now, would he?"

Junjie gave to stand before the pair, studying the young man who appeared to be of mixed blood, one hand lifting to tuck a lock of his own green hair behind his ear before he asked of his patient to be, "So, how about you tell me where it hurts?" He could see and smell blood, but he wasn't sure where it was coming from, not until he went about examining his new patient. Though that would be something Keona would have to sit outside for.

Ataya listened as Keona spoke, taking in her explanations while simultaneously attempting to observe as much of the city itself as he could through his limited senses: the sounds, the smells, the salt taste of the air and the feel of its atmosphere. As they walked, he reassured himself periodically that Rannah and all his various baggage was still in tow as promised, though it was not always even necessary to expend magic to tell as much. Keona’s khehora kept close pace, and often as not Ataya could hear his hastar as she pawed the sand or snorted with a muffled whinny, evidently curious herself with the new, strange surroundings.

When they crossed the threshold of a home, Keona calling out for her father, Ataya let his magic push out, dusting nearby pinpoints with frost in order to get a vague sense of the shape of the room, its height, and any potential nearby obstacles — such as furniture — so that he would not embarrass himself by tripping on anything. Then, footsteps sounded, approaching them, and — regardless of the uselessness of the gesture — Ataya’s eyes flicked towards the sound instinctively, his magic reaching and attempting to get a similar sense of the man’s shape as he moved in.

Horns, however misshapen, were the first thing evident, and from the smell of the house combined with the man’s vaguely familiar magical signature, Ataya guessed he was ysali. Something else, also, though that was less clear. The same magic that ran through the khehora that kept Keona’s company, or certainly similar. Ataya wondered if the two were related by blood, or in the same sense that his uncles were fathers to their adoptive daughters. Since both shared dovaa blood, evidently, Ataya supposed it was likely they shared a bloodline. Though he’d heard nothing of a mother yet, it did not mean the girl didn’t have one.

Ataya hummed, allowing his fingers to drop from Keona’s in order to fold them in front of him. It occurred to him to ask what was being done with his mount and his belongings, but he supposed that could wait at least a moment or so despite the way the concern nagged at the edge of his attention.

“An introduction, I think, is in order first,” Ataya said. “I would rather prefer to be on a first name basis with anyone thinking to put their magic or their fingers anywhere near my body, let alone both. I am Ataya Doryu, and I come as a traveler from Taliuma. A small team of bandits had the misfortune of thinking me an easy target and attempting to rob or kill me on my way in, and for all that they learned a much harsher lesson than I about the lack of wisdom there is in attacking even lone hybrids, they did manage to leave their mark on me…”

The Only Black Uke

Junjie blinked a couple times before he gave a soft chuckle, "It would appear as though you have brought home quite a serious young man, Keo." He said to his daughter before he turned his attention to Ataya once more, "It is nice to meet you, Ataya, though I would have preferred it had been under better circumstances. My name is Junjie Moana, and I can assure you that I have only the best intentions when it comes to tending to your wounds with my magic and my fingers. I will do nothing untoward, I promise." It saddened him a little knowing that the young man had been attacked by bandits, that they would go after him because he was alone, and possibly because of his mixed blood, it really did make Junjie's blood boil a little. He wouldn't allow such feelings to get to him though, not when it had a patient to tend to.

"Keona, how about you and Arjan see about making some herbal tea for our guest to drink after his healing session?" He suggested to his daughter and his more prickly khehora before turning to look toward the feathered Abellio, "Abellio, if you can accompany us? I may need your help with this one. It will all depend on the looks of the wounds? If you would come with me, Ataya? I will show you to the room where I see to my patients."

After giving Ataya's hand a last squeeze Keona stepped back, "Go ahead, I will be out there seeing to the tea. Don't worry, my father is an expert and will have you feel better in no time!" She chirped happily, glad that she had been able to get Ataya safely here to her father. She kenw that it meant that she'd given up the challenge that she and Bi had going but this was far more important then any game. Hopefully her friend wouldn't tease her too much for giving up only a short distance away from the gates of Tukyere she thought to herself as she turned and headed toward the small kitchen in their house, with a grumbling Arjan following along behind her.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 27, 2015 4:52 pm

Ataya hummed, a murmur of sound as close to consent as it would come for the moment. When the healer moved, though, Ataya followed, trailing the sound of his footsteps for the most part but also letting his magic fan out in minimal quantities, testing his immediate surroundings so as not to trip on anything unanticipated. “There is a small khehora egg hammock-strapped to my mount,” he said off-handedly as he went. “I am not certain how near it is to hatching, but in the event that it showed any signs of doing so, I would want to be present, if your…daughter is going to be doing anything with my belongings.”

When they had — so far as Ataya could discern, at least — arrived in whatever room the man, Junjie, intended to heal him in, Ataya brought three fingers to a ginger perch at the gouge to his side and stomach. He hadn’t thought it was especially deep the night before, though it had bled an unnecessarily great deal at the time and inevitably soaked a good swath of his robes. Moving, however, and making the trip this far into town had done its fair share in agitating it, and while he preferred not to show it, his head still felt the dizzying effects of that, even as he held himself upright.

“So far as the bandits’ generous gifts to me are concerned, the primary mark is here, at my right side, where they attempted, best as I can guess, to give my innards a shot at stargazing the desert night. They were, thankfully, unsuccessful. I’ve also been nicked somewhere down my thigh, though it’s longer, more grazing cut. Do you require payment in coin, or do you accept items of tradeable value as supplement?”

"A khehora egg? How wonderful." He murmured, turning his attention to Abellio for a moment, lifting a hand to scratch the alihora under the chin for a moment, "They are the most amazing friends and companions that one could ever have. So long as you make sure to raise them right at least. I will let Arjan know and he can tell Keona to look after the egg for you while I am tending to your wounds." He told Ataya, for a moment thinking back to when Abellio and Arjan were both tiny little things. It brought a smile to his face as he led the way to the room where he took care of his patients.

Once inside, and the door was closed behind them he said, "I hope you don't mind flowers. I tend to a lot of patients in here and the results is the place ending up a bit over run with various plants. A sort of after effect of so much of my kind of magic being used in a small area." The concentrated power of a Ysali had left the place covered in various plants on the floor, growing up the walls, and entwining themselves in the rafters over head. It was a strange sort of room, especially in the middle of a desert, but a place that Junjie felt was relaxing for his patients. He could only hope that it was something that might help to sooth his new patient as well.

"Alright, I will ask that you strip down to your pants, please, so that I can get a good look at your wounds. I'd like to know what I am dealing with, if there is any infection, how deep your wounds are, and the like." He explained as he turned to Abellio, "If the wound isn't too bad you won't have to aid me with him, but if there is any signs of infection a little back up will be helpful."

Abellio nodded, "Of course, Jun. Just let me know." The alihora said, moving to sit next to the bed that Ataya would be sitting or laying on during the healing session.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 02, 2015 3:55 pm

Ataya stilled upon entering the room, immediately awash in the combination of richly intertwining scents that, in that moment, threw him back to the first time he moved through Edmun’s house—though this, admittedly, was much more powerful. Ysali, then, he noted. Unmistakably. The green magic seemed to all but seep from the room, each of a wide variety of plants contributing different eromas and adding them to the atmosphere so that the air felt almost alive with it. Even having spent substantial stretches of hours in his childhood in the company of Malta, an experienced ysali khehora who specialized in healing and personal alchemy, had not given him the insight to be able to come close to identifying every smell. Before allowing himself to draw a second breath, he cast a quick, precautionary purging and toxicity spell. Only when the result came back clean without reaction did he allow himself to breathe again, satisfied that — at least to the best of his ability to test it — there were no poison gasses in the room.

“There must be so many,” he said aloud, unable to tell anywhere near an ‘exact’ number without his sight. “It gives the room a character, as though it could breathe. Or attack unwelcome visitors. Are any poisonous?”

Ataya reached as he spoke, moving his fingers over his front to unfasten the outer layers of his attire — a carrying belt, and several ties to hold his robes in place — before slipping things carefully away, all within reach. While he was necessarily wary and far from trusting the stranger before him, he knew very well that his primary defenses lay in his magic, and he was not made more vulnerable by losing one layer of cloth. He did feel a prickle of anxiety as he tended to when baring his skin, a frustrating unease rooted in self-consciousness which, despite his best efforts to ignore, he had never fully managed to rid himself of. Even with the man being hybrid, Ataya felt he could feel eyes moving over him, beginning to judge whenever he revealed more of himself than absolutely necessary and left his body subject to scrutiny.

Pursing his lips, Ataya rolled his shoulders, letting the top of his robes slip off and then plucking at it to fold the cloth neatly. Skeletal. Ugly. Mottled. ‘We can see your ribs, Ataya, why don’t you eat more? It would be healthy.’ He set the folded cloth on the bed.

“I cleaned the wound upon receiving it, after dealing with the inflictors, so I doubt it is infected, but I invite you to test that theory. It has been giving me multiple bouts of dizziness, light-headedness, and…a single fainting spell. For whatever that information is worth to you.”

"Yeah, they are quite numerous, spreading out and making quite themselves at home here. It seems to make my various patients happy though, the sights and scents of flowers tending to have a nice effect on those that come here for help." He explained to Ataya, looking around the room for a moment before his attention returned to Ataya, "I hope that they can have the same, relaxing effect on you and help you to feel better as I tend to your wounds. Better that you are at ease then tense or stressed. As for whether or not the plants pose any threat I can assure you that they don't. Most of those growing here are just sweet smelling, decorative types." His voice was reassuring, not wanting for Ataya to think that the room was dangerous.

After Ataya had stripped down and set his clothing aside Junjie took a couple steps toward the bed, patting a hand against it, making sure that it made a sound for Ataya's benefit, "If you want to lay here on your good side, that way you can concentrate on resting up and relaxing while I work."

Leaning in slightly he looked at the wound that marred the young man's side, inspecting it closely. After a thoughtful moment he said, "I don't see or smell any sort of infection, so you're quick thinking likely saved you a lot of pain and a possible fever. As for the light headed feeling you have been experiencing it's likely due to loss of blood. Once we are done here then I would suggest some meat broth to help you build back up your strength." He said as he set about gathering some of his ysali power into his hands, preparing the cast the spells that would be needed to help Ataya to feel better, "Just let me know when you're ready, Ataya."
PostPosted: Wed Sep 02, 2015 8:00 pm

Ataya hesitated, his ‘gaze’ flicking on instinct towards the pat of the healer’s hand to the bed surface, and he reached out himself, tracing the mattress’ edge. “I am sure they are lovely,” he murmured, half to himself as his mind wandered. He didn’t especially want to stretch himself out on a bed in foreign company. It felt…vulnerable somehow, in concept. Exposed. Moreso even than he already was with the open air on his skin.

But, he supposed at length, there was nothing much for it, and standing wasn’t worth the argument. Besides, it had been too long since he had even lain in a bed. Gingerly, he moved atop it.

“Where is the city’s library?” he asked, spurned half by the desire to know and half to fill the space with conversation in an effort to draw at least his own mind off of his general discomfort with the situation. “And after here…where would you recommend a foreigner go for secure lodgings? I would rather not experience more unanticipated stabbings in the night unless they are welcomed and of a different sort than those provided by blades…oh, and you may proceed when ready.”

"The city library?" Junjie had to think about it for a moment before he set to giving Ataya the directions to Tukyere's library. It wasn't too terribly far from where they were at the moment though even after he gave the directions he said, "If you would like, after you're rested up of course, I can escort you there. I would hate for you to get lost because my directions weren't good enough." It would also mean a bit more time with his patient which would allow Junjie to better gauge the young man's condition after the healing session. He wanted to make sure that Ataya would remain on his feet even after all that he'd been through, the poor thing. Really, those who went around picking on hybrids really needed to back off.

Green Ysali magic started to swirl around Junjie as he finished gathering what he felt like he would need, "Lodgings? There are a few places that one can stays, some more reputable then others. I could show you those as well if you like." He said before he moved his hands, allowing them to hover over the wound, "For the time being you're more then welcome to stay here while you recover. Now, this might feel a little odd, it always does when flesh starts to stitch itself together." Never a stranger feeling then that, but Ataya seemed like a tough young man, he was sure that he could handle it. Once he'd given him the 'warning' he set to feeding the green magic into Ataya, his full concentration on the wound that he needed to treat.

It was a slow going process since the wound seemed deep and he had to heal layer by layer from the inside out, "There is a chance that it might scar, given how deep your wound is, even with the power I am feeding into you. I do apologize if that is the case." He always hated the fact that, even with all his power that there was still the chance of scars, at least young men seemed to be more of the 'chicks dig scars' mentality though. It was a harder thing to deal with when a patient was female and tended to rely on their good looks. Giving a smile Junjie said, "We are almost done, just a little bit longer."
PostPosted: Thu Sep 03, 2015 4:15 pm

Ataya shut his eyes as Junjie’s magic began to work its way through him, piecing through the twists and turns that were the natural complexity of a living body and encouraging the various damaged parts back into harmony. Ysali magic always had a unique, ‘growing’ aspect to it — as though the tendons, muscles, and body itself became alive under its pulse and threaded itself back together with that excess of energy. Distinct, in particular, from the peisio magic that he was more used to: his sister’s and his uncle Lithian’s clan of choice. Where peisio magic always felt cool and seeping, rushing over and soothing hurts before cleansing and finally, gradually working to ‘heal’ a body, ysali magic felt rejuvenating with a character all its own.

He had felt it often enough, after all, through his experience with his father’s closest khehora confidant, Malta, and her magic was as soothing to him as his uncle’s, if not his sister’s. Familiar enough, regardless, that he trusted as the healer worked his magic that all of its aims so far were benevolent and helpful. As he began to feel its direct effects — his pain lessening and body feeling less of an overall strain — he turned his attention more towards the conversation.

“I have scars enough already and two useless eyes,” Ataya said, his tone neutral. “I don’t suppose one more mark on my body next to the mottled mess of colors it already sports will make much of a difference either way, so if it makes any difference, do not expend any extra energy attempting to see that one is not formed. I care little.” As to the rest, however, he debated before answering. “While I am sure your directions are adequate, if you think you have the time to spare, a guide the first time would be appreciated.”

The healer was, after all, clearly learned in at least some respects, and a native to the city. Though Ataya had no interest in coming off as dependent, the offer seemed to present more benefits than drawbacks and a useful opportunity to learn what he could from the man while he had his company. The second offer, however, drew to mind Dysarrin, and Ataya shook his head.

“Much as I appreciate your hospitality, I cannot stay here. I have a…common acquaintance who may be making an appearance within the coming hours, days, or weeks, depending on what suits him, and if he does so, I do not imagine it would have a positive effect on the surrounding premises, wherever I happen to take lodgings. I wouldn’t want to subject someone so generous to his moods as they may be.”

Junjie gave a bit of a lopsided smile as the boy spoke of his 'scars and two useless eyes' as well as the 'mottled mess of colors' that covered his body. There was the part of him that almost wanted to wrap the boy in his arms and give him a hug, if only because of the way he was describing himself. He was different, Junjie would admit that, but it wasn't so bad. The 'mottled' look was lovely in its own way, though would a young man appreciate such words from someone Junjie's age? Unlikely, so it might be best to keep such thoughts to himself so as not to put him on edge.

After giving him a once over Junjie gave a soft laugh and said, "I will give you my utmost attention why you're in my care, Atayay, so you needn't worry. We don't want to risk a thick scar, not when it might cause you trouble in the future. The scar tugging and twinging when you try to move for example would just be a hinderance and I wouldn't want that for you." He said, making a couple motions with his hands, gathering power, something that caused the flower around them to seem to stand up at attention, their smell getting stronger in the room, as he fed a bit more power into Ataya's body. After a few moments more he allowed the green magic to fade away, lifting a hand so that he could wipe a bit of sweat away with the sleeve of his room.

Resting a hand lightly on Ataya's shoulder he said, "Even if it feels all healed up don't try to sit up to fast, it might make your head spin. Sit up only when you feel you're ready for it." He cautioned before he motioned settled down on a stool next to the bed that Ataya was laying on, "I don't mind going for a walk with you once you're feeling ready for it."

"Hm?" Junjie seemed to think for a moment about what he was saying about his 'acquaintance' before he said, "Well, regardless of the... temperament of your friend you're still welcome if you aren't able to find a place to stay." He found himself what sort of acquaintance he might have that would go around making a mess of the places that Ataya stayed at. He supposed that some people were just less friendly then others. He'd just have to be careful in case said his friend arrived before Ataya was ready to get back onto his feet again.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 04, 2015 4:33 pm

Despite his best attempts to keep an air of calm about himself, Ataya tensed on instinct — if subtly so — when the healer’s fingers settled on his shoulder. He forced his muscles to relax, shifting to re-position himself and then sitting up despite the man’s warning. Other than a small wave of brief tingling behind his eyes and through his body, the motion came with no adverse effects. He sat for a moment, adjusting to his new equilibrium, and then shifted, testing himself: fingers opening and closing and twisting, toes the same, body turning at the waist. Though he could still feel the after-effects of healing and a very dull throb where Junjie’s magic had went to work, for the most part, he felt fully functional. Satisfied, he hummed to himself, and then moved, slipping his legs over the lip of the mattress and shifting off the bed to stand.

“If I was well enough to walk before your work I am sure I am more than capable after it,” he said, reaching, locating his robes, and carefully pulling them on, ever-aware of the pull of his skin and muscles on the newly healed area. “I will need lodgings before sundown and do not want to draw on more of your time than either you or I can afford…”

Pulling his fingers back through his hair in a makeshift gesture of combing it, Ataya settled it all at his back before letting his hand drop to his side.

“My friend is, I think, more than most can handle, but I do appreciate the offer. I’ve very little coin to spare, but I can afford to pay you from among the valuables I have with me. Would you prefer payment now, or after our…walk? I assume it is not terribly far, from your instructions.”

Junjie gave a soft, tsking sound as Ataya went against his suggestion and sat himself up. He looked him over closely, searching for any indication that he was unwell, but didn't see it. He was a strong one, wasn't he? Giving a smile Junjie said in a gentle tone of voice, "I am impressed with your strength of will, Ataya, but you have been through a lot. You don't have to rush yourself or try to force yourself to feign being well." He found himself worried that his desire to move, to leave Junjie's residence was because of the acquaintance that he'd spoken of.

He couldn't hold him here, so the best that he could do was show him around so that he could keep an eye on him for a while and see if he was as ready to move about as he was acting. If not, if he looked like he might collapse, then he'd have to bring him back here regardless of the dangers Ataya's 'acquaintance' presented. It really had him wondering what the guy was like, but worried it would be rude of him to ask too many questions. He'd rather appear as the sort people wanted to come to for healing, because of his abilities and his description, not the sort that seemed to be nosy. The last thing that he wanted was to drive Ataya away by playing twenty questions with him. Instead he said, "I will lead the way to where the nicest lodgings that I know of are located, as well as walk you by the library on the way. You can feel free to lean on me if you start to feel weak in the knees or lightheaded."

Pushing himself to his feet he asked, "Are you in need of a hand up, Ataya?" He might be hovering a bit too much, but he tended to do that, wanting to take care of his patients to the utmost of his ability, to keep them safe. At the mention of payment he said, "I am not too worried about a payment, Ataya, your health is what's important to me, not any sort of money or valuables. You should keep those, to help you along on your way. Come, let's start on our walk, to get you somewhere that you will get some rest."
