Ariel watched with pleased admiration as Prospera ordered the guards to stay back, her heart hammering in empathetic desire to obey when her command rang out. (Though, admittedly, she was a little disappointed that their fingers were no longer intertwined.) The goddess had no care for the guardsmen or their feeble weaponry - a few looked torn between duty to protect their royal charge and discomfort at having their weapons drawn on one such as she. 'For good reason.' she thought with no malice, amused if anything by their show of proposed force. 'Still, for such loyal obedience...'

She paused in following Prospera through the gates, looking over the guards amassed at their post. Some flinched, some glared, and other looked away sheepishly. But there was one that looked at her curiously - that same that had snapped to attention at Prospera's resounding order. He seemed tired, the new band on his finger glittering in the sunlight. 'A new husband and father, working to put food on the table. But, why then did he... Oh, I see.' she thought, offering him a small smile at what she saw in his heart.

The goddess reached into her sleeve, pulling out a small bag of herbs she'd gathered previously on a distant mountainside. Ariel offered it to he guard, who took it hesitantly. "Boil those into a tea and have the little ones drink it twice a day. Their coughing should cease." she paused, glancing over to where Prospera was waiting for her to follow, remembering achingly of a young girl that also fell ill once upon a time, "Perhaps add a spoonful of honey - for sweetness." she murmured, nodding to the guard (who looked like he might faint) as she turned to follow the other woman.

Realizing that Ariel had not immediately followed her inside she turned and watched the interaction between the goddess and the guard at the gate. She was out of earshot though so had no idea of the words exchanged between them and slight frown caressed her features as she tried to puzzle out what could possibly be the cause of the exchange.

Once Ariel caught up to her she couldn't help by pry. "What was that about?" she asked curiously. She had her suspicions but confirmation was always nice. She also knew that Ariel wouldn't have given the man anything unless she knew he would use it for it's intended purpose. No point giving someone something if they were only going to hock it for money and not use it to better themselves.

She lead the goddess through the palace and eventually up to terrace that was situated near her quarters. Refreshments were already waiting for them and Prospera sat herself in one of the chairs and poured herself and Ariel cups of tea before leaning back in her seat to get comfortable before continuing their conversation from earlier.

The goddess jumped slightly when the other woman addressed her, slightly flustered by the question. "Ah, well..." she said, looking off to the side, "His children are sick with a cough at home and his eyes reminded me of yours from when Miranda was also ill back... back on the island." Ariel trailed off, eyes distant for a moment. "I gave him a small parcel of herbs to make healing tea with. That is all." She cleared her throat, shaking herself out of her sudden and unbecoming melancholy state.

That Prospera's quarters were well furnished was unsurprising. The goddess was a little saddened she merely got a glimpse of them in passing as they headed out instead to a private terrace, but that was enough to notice the severe lack of magical aura that had once accompanied the mortal's room back on their island home. 'Well, she did say she would cast away all her enchantments. Still, for it to dissipate so suddenly...' Ariel mused, taking a seat a respectable distance from her ex-Mistress and graciously accepting her tea.

(Sorry for how long this took/how short it is. Ariel's muse is not wanting to cooperate >/)

Prospera nodded. "I see." she let out a breath and sighed. "There is nothing more worrying than a sick child..." she trailed off and folded her hands in the sleeves of her robe.

While she hadn't intended to hurry the goddess past her rooms, there was perhaps a bit of reluctance to let her linger. Her magical potential had diminished greatly from her time on the island and while it would not take much for her to reclaim her previous power, she had promised. A promise that she wished she hadn't made at times. Magical power would be a great asset in her current occupation.

She settled herself in her chair and doctored her tea as was her wont then settled back with a scone. "So...I suppose now would be a good time to resume where we left off earlier." she nibbled on the pastry and looked over at her companion. "Tell me of your adventures."

Ariel nodded as the other woman spoke, sympathetic understanding coloring her face. The goddess remembered with bitter fondness how she had paced the floor restlessly when her own little girl was ill. Following Prospera's example, she delicately took a cup of the tea and poured in a little cream a spoonful of honey. 'How things change changed,' she thought, bringing the cup to he lips as she snuck glances at the other woman, 'Or perhaps this is what is meant to be?'

She blinked when Prospera addressed her once more, setting her cup down carefully. "Eager to hear of them, are you?" she murmured, her tone edging on teasing. "One wonders how boring politics must be." Ariel chuckled before sighing, a quintessentially wry smile on her lips. "Is there any particular topic you're interested in, or would you prefer an unabridged narrative?"

She took a biscuit and nibbled at the corner, thinking about days past. Her sweet Miranda, no longer a little girl, but a woman grown with her own responsibilities and household to run. How time had flown. She had to admit she missed the sound of little voices and pitterpat of little feet. Perhaps her advisers were right and she should marry and see if she was past her prime for such things. If nothing else there was always magical remedies for either her or his failings.

She glanced back over at Ariel and parked her train of thought and smiled gently. "I am, truly." she laughed a bit. "You have no idea how utterly dreary it is. I envy your freedom." she settled back in her chair. "I believe the best place to start would be with whatever comes to mind as something worth sharing. Your favorite moment, a misunderstanding turned happy accident or...whatever strikes your fancy." her eyes sparkled just a bit as she awaited whatever tail the Goddess would tell her.

Ah, there it was again. That word. The goddess attempted to keep her face carefully neutral at it's use, barely avoiding flinching from it coming up so suddenly. She quirked her lips into a smile instead of the frown they wished to form, bowing her head slightly in gracious acknowledgement. Yet her eyes were curious. "Truly, has being at court become something of a chore? Returning to it seemed to be your only goal - the reason behind most if not all your spells." she said, wings flaring slightly for her unkind insinuation, "You said as much, at least, when we were hom- back on the island."

Ariel paused to drink her tea, eyes averted in embarrassed shame under the pretense of recalling, as Prospera put it, 'something worth sharing'. She was by no means a storyteller - that is, unless she was ordered to be - but at the very least she knew to try and entertain her audience. But a single memory to start with? Scrambling through her own mind, she paused on one with a mischievous curiosity. "Perhaps I could regale you with the time when I convinced flower and fire spirits to dance in the sky for a moon festival?"

Prospera was quite for a few moments then sighed a bit. "A fact of life I should have remembered, that the things you want most are not the things that are most needful to a person. Yes, I admit I am bored, over worked and sometimes believe not a very good ruler for this city. I find I am hard pressed at times to listen to the pleas of those who beseech my help and find my life is run by a council of advisers, who at times, cannot be trusted as far as one can throw them. I thought the island was a prison, a curse upon me, but no, Milan is far worse than it ever was. I was a fool, and now I pay for my folly. Do not pity me though, it is my own doing."

She glanced over at Ariel and wondered slightly if she perhaps had caused some discomfort in the other. While she could see no color in the other's features, her body language suggested that she was...upset? She frowned slightly, then realizing that if she were Ariel she would have a great deal to be upset with her, Prospera, about. Their relationship was not of old friends no matter how Prospera now decided to dress it up for the palace staff and everyone else who saw them, but of mistress and servant. While she had indeed granted freedom to the goddess, that did not exactly make total amends for all the wrongs that she had inflicted upon Ariel in the past. Could she ever atone for her sins? It was hard to say.

She shook herself from her musings as Ariel asked her opinion on a tale. "Oh? That sounds like quite the task. I would indeed care to hear it." her features settling into a sly smile as she felt there was some deviousness in the goddess choice of story.
