Cassie slid back into the pod with hesitance in every motion, but she was determined to at least finish one round of this course. She had to live up to the expectation, now. This was life, now.
"I'd appreciate that, Dawson." Cassie murmured, taking a step to the right, straight into a jut of flame that charred her left arm and leg. A high pitched whine was all Cassie let out, eyes welling with pained tears. Status Step: 1 HP: 40 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 1

His heart went out to her, but support had to be a solid effort, not a pitying one.
"Think there's a pattern here?" Dawson mused aloud as he looked around, trying to plot where he had been stepping. "Maybe there's a trick 'r somethin'...Or, uh, guess could be totally random just like minesweeper...Hence the name, huh..."
Super helpful support, him.

"M-maybe? I mean, if so this is the most convoluted pattern I've ever seen." Cassie eyed her options nervously, feeling that this was much more like a game of minesweeper than anything. She hated playing minesweeper.

He tried the next tile. "Well--"
And then he exploded into grisly golem bits.
Dawson returned a few minutes later, shaken yet somehow still nervously chuckling to himself. The timing of it. "Be a doofus, I guess," he continued as he rubbed his head, now safely on the other side of the board. The techs informed him he no longer had to try the course, but he was serious about the support. "M'okay, keep goin'! How about you?"

Geez, that was so gross... Cassie held a hand to her mouth to suppress the squeak, and the tiny bit of bile, keeping herself from running forward into a landmine. She had to stay calm, keep her head above water. Any mistake meant death, or worse - another scolding from Tendaji.
"Well, what does being a doofus entail, silly?" Cassie chirped, distracting herself from the idea of peril. If she wasn't frightened, maybe she could make better decisions.

"Blowin' up with comedic timin', apparently," Dawson laughed. "F'real, I don' do much outside a'work. Nap, mostly. Hoarde snacks. Practice spars. Carve s**t. I like lil' crafty things."

Cassie took another step, with a little more confidence this time, and ended up in yet another safe zone. Hmmm... maybe there was some sort of intuition to this whole training room? While the tiles to the right and directly in front of her seemed a little dubious - was that a crack in one? It looked slightly off color, at least - the left tile boded well, or so she hoped.
Side-stepping, Cassie waited for an axe, spikes, a bomb. Nothing but silence.
"I like crafting!" Cassie beamed, waving at Dawson in the observation area. Though she was sure hers and Dawson's crafts were far different. "Haven't drunk much, though - Daddy was pretty good about keeping his rum locked up."Status Step: 5 HP: 20 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 1

"Well, good on yer daddy, you too young t'worry about booze." Said the man who had started taking sips off his own parents at the tender age of twelve.
When Cassie managed to make her fifth step without harm, Dawson gave a whoop and applauded. "Atta girl! Now let's get the hell out, yeah?"

"Yes, please." Cassie nodded, signaling for the operator to end the simulation. She really didn't want to keep going - bragging rights weren't worth more pain.
Stepping out of the pod and over to Dawson, the small teen beamed up at him with an expecting smile. "Sooo...cheesecake?"
