"Is that so wrong? Telling people what they want to hear is sometimes all they need, it is a service. It is no doubt difficult for you to understand but it helped so many of the individuals who came to me for guidance and reassurance that their loved ones were thriving and to ask them questions they could not otherwise find answers to."
Harrison got a curious and intent look. "Do you honestly think if enough people told him she's dead, she's dead she's dead that somehow he would come around and see it? He does not function that way, he reject reality and substitutes it with his own as a coping mechanism. Rin was unfinished business and would always be unfinished business, tied into his inadequacy. I gave him a new lease of life and a new perspective on that inadequacy."
Idly rubbing his injured wrist he sighed. "Rin, if I channelled her would tell him to move on, to deal with his issues, to forge his own life with new bonds and new friendships. Perhaps some bait might be part of the motivation but it is all towards good ends. He is happy, well fed, all of his needs are well tended. He is thriving."
"So tell me, what have you ever actually done for him?"

"He's Rep's friend. Sorta. They had a fallout, after she died." Although things had been weird before that. Harrison had never gotten along with Rin. She asked too many personal questions. He knew she was important to Rep. He'd tried to get to know her. But all she wanted to know about was whether or not Harrison liked ballgags, and what his favorite position was.
Why she and Melvin had ended up together, he didn't know. Maybe a mutual like of questions. Why Melvin had gone batshit after, he didn't know either. Melvin had always been big on s**t being Clean. Rin could have only taken baths in blood and animal gore and been happy.
"Neither of them deal with death good," Harrison said, uncomfortable with this line of questioning. He finally looked at Lawr. "I warned him. I told him the truth. It's not the kind of help anybody wants."
New bonds. New friendships.
"Is that what you told him? Is that the reason he's been doing better?"

Rep's friend. What Lawrence knew of Rep, the man was a rude and abusive criminal without any sense of control or - more offensively - taste. He could understand why Melvin might well have found the loud and abrasive clod amenable as a friend, he wasn't bright enough to register deep offense over much. Still, it rang all wrong in Lawrence's mind, it would have been nothing more than a waste of a very useful individual, it was convenient it had ended and even more convenient it had been messy.
"I suppose that went down as well as any other time you tell people the truth." the smile he gave was mocking. "People don't want to hear your truth, it is not their truth, their truth is more appealing to them. You can tell them till they are blue in the face that it is not healthy or right or safe to do something, you can invest all your effort to do it, and in the end all it will take is a tiny bit of effort in my part to tell them what they want to hear to undo that. Melvin wanted me to tell him Rin was alive somewhere, that if he was a good little boy and did as he was told that perhaps at some point she could come back. Maybe I told him that, maybe I told him something else, it is all ultimately his business. You are in no position to tell me what is good or bad when I am the one who has brought him this far. "
There was a saccharine pleased slant to his voice as he added. "But yes, my friendship is why he has been doing better. So I'm afraid you get to be dissapointed, the only "******** up" has been more literal than where you've drawn your little line, and it did not and does not concern you. "

So they'd been ********, too. That was one way to get over a dead SO. And what Harrison had been telling Melvin to do all along. But why with this guy?
Harrison looked at Lawr a while before deciding flatly, "I'm gonna go talk to him."
He pointed again. "And you're coming too."

Lawrence was often amenable and passive right up until the point where he was not. Being scolded by Harrison was something he was content to tolerate as an amusing distraction.
Melvin becoming involved would make it much less amusing and more in the direction of actual work.
"You are free to speak to him, but I am not coming with you."

Harrison rolled his eyes and took Lawr by the collar, yanking him upright and with every intention of yanking him right down the hallway if he had to.

There was a split second of surprise at being manhandled before with a flash of blue talons, Lawrence went from relaxed indifference to a slashing and swiping nightmare who absolutely did not want to go anywhere he had not agreed to go.
"Let. Me. Go." he said coldly.

"See," Harrison emphasized, switching so he was holding Lawr by the scruff while he swiped furiously with those lengthy claws.
"This is the s**t I'm talking about. You're off the training fields. Got your weapon out over nothing. You got Melvin all depending on you and s**t and you're gonna end up right back in the pod."
He tucked Lawr under one arm like a football, still grumbling as he headed towards Melvin's dorm.
"You and that kid of yours have got some s**t in common."

Lawr was not physically very strong at all, more of an ambush predator and more about words than actual fighting. Harrison was strong, and his shield was apparently stronger. This left Lawrence in a position of helplessness which he did not enjoy one tiny bit, his normal iron clad sense of control fractured enough that his proper capacity for violence and brutality was evident.
"This." he said, cold and clipped, clenching his claws into Harrison's shield. "Is assault on my person, this is self defense. It is infringing upon my freedoms and I insist you put me down. "
Butch also was going absolutely ballistic in his head, screaming like an animal caught in a trap, a factor which only made him more determined to fight back.

"I have rights in many countries. Even this tedious imitation excuse for one."
It was impossible to get traction on the other man, but he was not known for his lack of patience and persistence. "I do not WANT to speak with Melvin with you there and I will be sure to explain to him the danger you have put me in."
Just for good measure for the neutering comment, he made a swipe at Harrison's tenders.

Harrison grabbed Jan's wrist as Jan aimed lower, giving him a huge scowl.
"The only danger you're in is a two foot fall, and that's gonna be nobody's fault but yours. ....I guess you do got the right to remain silent. We're just not going anywhere near a court of law."

Lawr twisted like a petulant child at having his wrist seized and instead channelled all the gathered fear into the other before swiping that hand at the same area which had irritated Harrison in the first place.
Mentally Butch sunk his teeth in and as always in his fear there was a twist of cold and nothing. But Harrison's fear shield really was rather remarkable and the canine found himself losing his grip before he could have any real traction, finally giving up without any lingering effect.
Lawrence was more than a little frustrated by this and coldly told Butch just what a useless and bad dog he was, leaving him whining and cowering.
"I should report you for this." he said grimly.

Harrison just laughed.
"You oughta tip me instead, your majesty. Carrying your sulking a** this far just so your shoes don't get scuffed. I've been right civil."
When they arrived at Melvin's door, Harrison finally set Lawr upright, brushing off his fancy shirt while keeping a hand locked around his wrist.
"Didn't think I'd need my cuffs. You are such a ******** drama queen."
Then he turned to give Melvin's door a knock.

Melvin was busy at his desk ckeaning his carving tools from that morning when he heard the knock. Previously occupied, Twitter was ignored and he was only waiting for Jan to return from where he left. When the knock came, he was confused. Did he accidentally lock himself out? Considering no one visited Melvin any longer especially now that Horace left, Melvin didn't even entertain the idea.
"Coming!" He called and got up, taking off the gloves he used for cleaning and replacing them with his usual black pair.
"I didn't know it lock- Harrison?" He looked to the Moon. Then he noticed Jan beside him looking flushed. His eyes went to the hand on Jan's wrist. Anyone else and he might have jumped to anger first or at least irritation, but Harrison had always been about safety and protection and so he generally didn't associate any aggression with him. He was however confused why he was even here. They rarely talked much and while Melvin respected Harrison for being one of the few people on island who cared about everyone safety, the man never was very social. He didn't answer questions well either which never gave Melvin much to go on.
"What's going on?" He said, looking to Harrison and Jan and then stepping aside to let them in. "Jan, are you okay?" Was Harrison here to help Jan to lay down?
Looking again, he saw Jan's clothes were wrinkled which was surprising when he always was nicely pressed and had been when he left a little while ago. His hair was also ruffled and that's when he felt a sickening curling. Something messed up his hair. Dirtied it.
"What happened?" He said, a little more frantic as he drew closer to Jan.
