Username: Lavender Hues Nightmare: LaurelPrompt Answer: Laurel swung his legs at his desk, his pencil firmly grasped in his hand. The assignment Lyra had given them was super exciting to him, it was his chance to express what he wanted to be when he grew up! Sure, the fear that his goal wouldn't be accepted lingered around him, but the more he thought about it, the more it really didn't bother him. He made a popping sound with his mouth, stared at the blank paper, and grinned. "I wanna be a plushie maker when I grow up!" He wrote, his hand writing large and wobbly. "I want to make pink kittens and purple sheep with bows all over them! I want sew them with love in the stitches and sleep in a pile of yarn and stuffing! I think it would be a great job and it would make lots of kids like me super happy! No one would be left without a plushie to snuggle and love when I'm in charge of plushie making!" He giggled as he finished his work and quickly signed it at the top. Then, he held it above his head to inspect it. Yes, this was perfect! It said everything he wanted to say! Hopefully Ms. Lyra liked it! --- The next day, Laurel bounced up to Lyra's desk as his name was called, and handed in his paper with a smile. "I hope it's okay, Ms. Lyra!" He chirped. "I did my very best, I promise!" (242 words)

Prompt Answer: Oh great. This question. Ganymede sighed internally, how come they had to start asking this question now? Truthfully they weren't sure what they wanted to do when they grew up. That was ages in the future! At least ten years, anyway. What was the point of thinking that far ahead? They stared at the blank paper for a good while before deciding to at least write something down.
"I don't know what I want to be. It's a long time away. Why do I have to think about it right now anyway? What if I'm still figuring out what kinds of stuff I like to do?" Hah. That'll show her. Stupid question..
"I know I wanna study illusions and I guess I like fashion. I like looking good anyway. So that's as good as it gets right now." They nodded to themself, that would have to do. They didn't really know what to do with either of those things right now. They weren't going to fess up to why they wanted to study illusions, especially not to a teacher that seemed strict like Lyra.
----
The next class period they turned in the assignment when prompted to, then went about their day.

Username: Geyser Eelborn Nightmare: Zalir Prompt Answer: I did as much research as I could on the three houses before I joined a house. I wanted to pick a house that suited my interests and priorities well. I did not want to join a house that did not suit me. I was going to pick Eldritch house when I learned that they put a high value on learning, because I put a high value on learning myself. They value knowledge, and so do I. However, I was turned off of Eldritch house when I read a list of their more famous graduates. I was dismayed to learn that most of them went into the humanities, studying such subjects as law, history, and anthropology.
These are worthy subjects indeed, but my tastes run more towards the analytical; I am most interested in subjects such as chemistry and magic. Both of these subjects tended to show up more often on lists of Enoch alum, a house I had originally passed over because they put their value on Logic. Logic, you see, is a specific subject, and I had assumed that the emphasis on “logic” meant a preference for the subject. When fields that do not include logic, with the exception of mathematics, did not appear on the list of Enoch alumni, I was forced to conclude that it was the concept of logic, not the subject, that is the core of the Enoch identity.
It was well that I did my research, because I find that I fit in well with my Enoch brethren, sistren, and zethren. Although I admit I have rarely interacted with them, I can tell from the way other students of the turquoise talk that they hold the same interests and values that I hold dear. They prefer facts over intuition; so do I. They prefer evidence over hearsay; so do I. They build beautiful constructs of theory and mind, and while I cannot say that I have done so, I do dream someday of making such wondrous designs of thought. And they—I—we —all of us find fascinating what so many of our peers dismiss as boring.
(Um, I went over two paragraphs. Is that okay? I thought it was important to tell you all the background. Um. Because it’s kind of important to the answer, you see. I’m sorry!)-- Zalir slid the papers onto Professor Lyra's desk, eyes downcast, and headed back to zeir seat. Zeir hand was still cramped from the furious writing, and zey was a little nervous that zey would get in trouble for writing so much, but secretly, zey was proud--proud of zeir writing ability, which zey had never had much confidence in--and proud of zeir house, just for a little while.

Username: DaisyMilk Nightmare: ZahneelPrompt Answer: Sliding eagerly into her seat, Zahneel watched the teacher carefully. It didn’t take her long to open her own notebook and grab a pen from her bag. Really, she could see the sense of writing homework down early. And she had a sneaking suspicion that Miss Lyra’s theory would prove true in the end. Still, she couldn’t help but smile a little at the assignment, no matter how strictly it had been presented. Tapping her pencil to her chin for a moment, she considered the assignment, getting the words she wanted into their proper mental order. Then, she began to write. I am part of Eldritch House. Personally, I think that this is a perfect fit for me due to two factors. What I am and what I want to be. Eldritch focuses on the past and how it shapes the present, the future and how it shapes Nightmares like us. When we learn from the past and learn how to look at it objectively, we can learn how to prevent some of the more awful things from ever happening again.
Eldritch House gives me the resources and skills to learn from the past. Both in terms of how nightmares behave, but also in terms of how easy it is to lost valuable information when something bad happens. As a Grimm, I want to know as much about my history and my kind as possible. I want to learn about every race found in Below and their histories. I want to write them all down and keep them safe. That way, there will hopefully never be another situation like the Grimms where we’ve lost the bulk of our history and traditions. I want to help make sure that no one ever feels lost again when it comes to who they are and where they came from.
This is why I feel that I truly do belong in Eldritch. I want to be an Historian. And Eldritch is the house for learning how to do just that.Gnawing a little on her lip, Zahneel wondered if her short essay was good enough. At least in her eyes it fit within the set assignment. With a small sigh, she set her pencil down and got up to hand her work in. “Here you are, Miss Lyra,” she murmured. Then, she went quietly back to her seat. Total Words: 396

Username: DaisyMilk Nightmare: CoraliePrompt Answer: Coralie sighed and wrote down the assignment. She hated writing essays. Still, if she wanted good grades, she'd have to write 'em. It'll be okay, she consoled herself silently. I'll be out of school soon enough. So. What did she want to do? With another sigh, she picked up her pen and began to write. Once I graduate Academy, I would ideally like to go into business for myself. I love animals and seeing people happy, so I've always dreamed about owning a pet shop. Do I need to go to University in order to follow my dream? No one has ever really been able to give me a good, straight answer. Besides, none of the Universities seem to have business programs that I was able to find!
I suppose that I'll try to get some sort of apprenticeship so that I can properly learn the ropes of managing a successful shop. And once that's done, one way or another, I will have my pet shop and it's going to be fantastic!--- The next morning, Coralie entered the class and waited in line to turn her work in. As she approached the teacher's desk, she smiled brightly, set her essay where indicated and headed for her desk. One essay down. Who knew how many more left to go!

Username: grasshopper pie Nightmare: MicahPrompt Answer: Writing fiction was one thing, but assigned essays weren't exactly Micah's favorite. She'd been asked countless times by staff and friends just what she wanted to do with her life. Some seemed surprised at her cool demeanor about the whole situation, even if on the inside she had some concerns. She scribbled down the assignment and pulled a bit of a face in thought. - - - Once I graduate from the Academy, I plan to attend Grendel Academy. My dream is to become a graphic novel artist to the point where I can support myself comfortably. If not that, I would like to be able to live off of my art at the very least, even knowing that it wouldn't likely be the most glamorous life. Neither would be especially high-paying, I imagine, but I am more concerned with pursuing my passion than making a lot of money. To live without art would be frankly horrible, so even if I end up working some other job it will always be present in my life. I'll never stop drawing.
As for my major at University, my ultimate goal would be to major in both art and creative writing. Both would work toward becoming a proper story-cobbler and illustrator. If the workload proves too heavy, however, I would rather major in art and minor in writing. After all, the writing may never come to much use, but I refuse to let go of the art.- - - Micah handed her paper in with a polite, fleeting smile. Hopefully her essay was of decent length, even if she'd gone on a bit of a tangent there in the middle. it hadn't had to be especially formal, had it? Oh, she hoped not, it was too late now...

Username: Geyser Eelborn Nightmare: Ustule Prompt Answer: When I grow up, I would like to be home. I miss home hugely and I would like to home-return when I am grown. When I am grown, I will retire to our village, where I will plow the fields once more. I will build pitfalls around the fields for wolves in winter and in spring, and I will have hedges that go all around the farmhouse. Hares will hop through the musits and my hounds and I will catch them for repasture.
This is the proper way to be, because you have food and you fret only over important matters. There is no fuss of inconsequence. We lived like that for many ages, dark and light, and it is the way I have always expected to exist.Ustule didn't start working on her essay until the class was nearly over, and she was amongst the last to turn it in. The reason was simple--she was tucked into the back corner of the class, her head resting on her arms as she tried to hold back the tears. Thinking about the future left a blank space in her heart, and she hated it. She refused to show weakness to anyone else, however, least of all Miss Lyra. She would rather die than let the Demon know her distress. Instead, she pretended that she was merely very sleepy, picking her head up and pretending to be in intense contemplation whenever their teacher looked her way.
Finally, with only minutes to go before the bell, she wrote her answer. Hoping that it would not offend, and careful to end it before it could, she set it down on the desk atop the pile of previous essays, and hurried out the door, never once making eye contact with their teacher.

Username: Torvil Nightmare: Enoukn Prompt Answer: Enoukn hadn't really thought about this very much. All the same, he wanted to do well in his classes. Education was important regardless of what he wanted to do with his future. He thought about his plant in the courtyard and decided to go from there. When I grow up, I want to do something outside and in nature. I want to take care of plants and animals and other living things. I want to help them grow big and strong and healthy. Any job that will let me do that would be a dream job for me. I really like being outside, and so I would rather work outside than inside. I want to do all that I can to make plants and animals happy and feel good. Because if plants and animals are happy, then people are happy, and I want people to be happy too.Hugging his plush to him, he chewed on the back of his pencil absently as he thought of anything he might want to add. Finding nothing more of importance. He scribbled his name at the top and clip-clopped over to the teacher's desk, turning in the paper.

Username: VerityHattress Nightmare: Lazarus
Prompt Answer: Having been one of the last Juniors to come into the class before he was to be considered late, Lazarus sat in the back and didn't pay much attention to when the teacher came in, only noticing that class had started when the teacher actually started to talk. The only things that really interested Lazarus was music and poetry, not this simple Language Arts stuff! No matter, this class was going to be a piece of cake for him to complete.
The first bit of what she said didn't catch his attention, keeping his eyes on his music sheet notebook that he wrote compositions in for fun. The second bit the teacher said though actually got him curious. An assignment on how they fit or didn't fit into their house? Hmm, perhaps he could get some insightful info on self evaluating himself. After all, he had never really thought of why he was in the Arkham house. He just always assumed it was because he was musically inclined and could write poetry.
Taking out his normal notebook from his messenger bag, he opened it to a clean sheet of paper and began to think of what to write, deciding to just let the words coming into his mind be written down into physical form. That was how he did his music compositions, so why wouldn't it work for this essay? As he did this method of writing, Lazarus reflected back to when he was first put into the house, thinking of why he fit into the house. Surprisingly, he found more of a reason than he originally thought.
When class ended for the day, the young Baphomet made his way to his dorm room, quick to sit down and for once in his life start to put all he could into this non-musical or creative writing assignment. This assignment had helped him to open up his mind to what it mean to be a part of a Arkham House, and he wasn't about to put in a lousy effort into this assignment.
For sure I know a major reason why I am in the Arkham House. After all, I know I am creative and talented when it comes to music and words. However, I have always assumed that I was in the Arkham house due to my musical capabilities and poetry I write. After all, isn't that what the Arkham house is all about? Artsy nightmares who thought outside the box, painted masterpieces, sung for the masses, or acted to their hearts content. However, is there more to this house than I first expected? I am for sure successful in just being naturally creative with music and creative writing, but is there more to it? Could there be more to the Arkham House?
I think back to when I first was put into the house, never really paying attention to what those in charge told me. Even now it is hard for me to remember some of what they said. However, I can recall a few things they mentioned over and over. Creativity can be applied to all areas of your life, not just the arts. This has never really clicked for me until writing this essay to be honest. I never really cared. However, thinking over those words I think I have begun to realize that I can be creative and innovative with whatever I do, I just need to actually care more and try to apply this talent of mine in all aspects of my life. Starting in this class. I know I can be innovative, and I know I can be creative, but I just need to apply myself more, and that is exactly what I am going to do.
Even if it wasn't terribly long, he had still put all he could into it, some tired bags under his eyes when he came into class the next morning and handed in his assignment. Even if he didn't pass, this writing assignment had helped him to realize how he could further improve his experience at this school, to become the best possible nightmare he could be. All he had to do is to be creative, and the rest will surely follow as he learned more and more.

Username: Lady Argentum Draconis Nightmare: Vaden Prompt Answer: Vaden stared at the blank piece of paper. Oh the most complicated of questions. Well it was pretty obvious for him, in fact it wasn't much of a decision. He picked up his pen and started to write
After I graduate from the Academy, I will attend Asterion University, where I will pursue a degree in History and Sociology and possibly Psychology. I haven't decided whether not I should triple major or just double. While tripling would hard work, I am prepared to do it. It never hurts to be versatile after all.
After University I will more than likely go into the family business. This is something I don't have much of a choice in, as my father wants me to take over his job when he decides to retire, so I have to get as much experience before that time to be as prepared as I can be for the day his job is mine. I suppose I may get married, but at the moment I have no particular interest in romance or having a family of his own.
There done. Was it any good? Well that was up to Miss Lyra.

Head held low as she walked in, she simply waited until her mother got home, looking up pathetically at her. She needed help...and Momma Sari could fix anything, right? It took a great deal of explaining before she understood it didn't have to be anything absolute, but rather an idea that she could change later. Smiling, she finally got to work. When I'm older, I want to help make people happy! No one should ever be sad for any reason. I don't know exactly how I will do this, but I can make it happen! Maybe I'll make cookies or cakes, or maybe I'll just be cute and make people smile! It makes my Daddy smile, and he's always sad, so I want to help him! Plus my big brothers need to smile more too! With a big smile, she handed it in to Lyra the next day. "Here!" She beamed, finally prancing back to her seat.

Username: Lady Argentum Draconis Nightmare: Tarin Prompt Response:Tarin considered the question. Well it was a pretty easy question, but she wondered how she should answer it. She certainly didn't want to answer it in such a way that got her parents called on her. Hmm, oh well if it happened it happened.
When I grow up I want to be in charge. In charge of what I don't know yet, but I know that I want to be the boss. I think I make a good leader because I try to listen to everyone and make good decisions. Although sometimes I know you have to be mean because people won't agree and if you don't put your foot down nothing will ever get done. I know some people don't think that's nice, but you can't be nice all the time.
There done, and she didn't think it would get the wrath of parental units down on her head. She wrote her name at the top and then turned it in the next morning.

Username: Geyser Eelborn Nightmare: Quilo Prompt Answer: I am a Geist. We are from southeast Zephyros, but legend has it we actually came from the Aether. We are the undespyewtid (I don't know if I spelled that word right) masters of the Void Sea. We do a lot of trading in spices and minerals from islands in the Void Sea. We sail across them in our air ships. Geists did a lot of sacking before the War. Sacking is when you go into someone else's city and say "this city is mine now and all the stuff in it." The biggest sacking happened in Alcyone, which is a Baphomet city. But the princes who sacked Alcyone gave it back. Baphomets are very angry about this. Geists are ruled by princes, who can be any gender. They rule cities. There are five princes, one for each city. There used to be a sixth prince, but that was the prince of Valir. Valir was destroyed in the war, so there isn't a Valir prince anymore. No one knows who's supposed to be the Valir prince. When Valir was destroyed by the Daydreams, the other five princes joined the war. Geists were spies during the war, and they sacked Alcyone from the Daydreams. Baphomets still don't like us, though, because I guess they think we might do it a third time or something.Yes, that ought to just about cover it. Quilo nodded with satisfaction and turned in his homework assignment, giving Miss Lyra a smile as he did.
