A part of Celsus was strangely envious of the relationship that Valhalla had with Ganymede, which he could see from a third-party outsider was something deep and resonating, an intricate bond between the two. Celsus himself did not have anyone in his life that he could say the same about, not including his twin, and even then, that did not really count. It was rather nice, he thought, to have that sort of depth with another person.

Celsus' brows drew together in slight confusion. "You can't..." he started, and then realized what Valhalla was implying. "You can't feel any auras at all," Celsus said, and it wasn't really a question, more just a reiteration of what he was being told already. "Forgive me if this seems...impertinent, but are you sure you should be out on your own..?"

He didn't mean it in a patronizing sense, Celsus merely concerned for him. His eyes traveled down to the gyrocompass, the concern growing at the sparks, and what he was being told. And the fact that Valhalla did not recall his civilian life, as well as the pain in his chest, was highly disconcerting.

"I am...very sorry to hear that," Celsus said quietly. "If I knew you as a civilian, I would attempt to help you, but I am sure your lady Ganymede is doing that well already. Can you recall nothing at all? The body has memories," he added, taking a step forward, cape swinging behind him. "Sometimes it holds them in place, do you get anything at all when you are not Valhalla? Any feelings or emotions, or is it entirely blank?"

Valhalla nodded his head lightly when Celsus hit the mark when it came to him sensing, or not sensing, auras. Finally a small smile appeared when Celsus pointed out the obvious, but it was made of resignation. “Probably not,” he admitted sheepishly, and a little guiltily. “Is that what you would have done, if it was you? Not go out on your own?” Even though he knew he should be cautious, he was too restless to just sit and wait for something to happen.

He knew Celsus had a point, but he shook his head again, not wanting to trouble or worry the other knight more than he already had. “It’s okay, and yeah she has. She’s doing what she can, but...” Valhalla paused to look down at his green and gold and brown outfit, as if inspecting every inch to make sure he didn’t see black creeping up through the fabric like in his nightmares.

“It’s as if that part of my life was erased…”

Part of him hoped he was just being overdramatic, but he couldn’t recognize any connection between himself as Chris and himself as Valhalla.

“I think I would like to know you, as a civilian, I mean,” he added, realizing just how depressing this whole conversation must be sounding. After all… he was still Valhalla. He was still Chris. Just a little damaged. “I would want to help you too, if you ever needed me.”

At least he'd managed to pull a smile onto Valhalla's face, however small. Celsus tilted his head, a little rueful grin on his own face.

"No," he said truthfully, "I would go out on my own anyway, regardless. I'd be too impatient for answers to sit around and be cloistered away, simply waiting for the world to come to me and tell me how things are. I'd rather go out and find them for myself."

Which was to say that he'd most likely do exactly what Valhalla was doing and spend his free time exactly as he always had. Celsus idly toyed with the Chronos pendant around his neck, fingers fiddling with the golden medallion out of a need for something to do with his hands. He tried to imagine not remembering his life as Fritz St. James, and it was an unpleasant, daunting thing to even consider.

A little smile flickered across Celsus' face. "I'd like that," he said lightly as the smile grew. "Along with the simple prospect of simply knowing you, we met a long time ago, and while we are not...well, I suppose, as close as others might be, it doesn't change the fact that I am your friend, Valhalla."

He gave a slight incline of his head towards the other, a nod of respect.

"Your ally and your friend, regardless of your lost memories."

Valhalla felt as though another weight was lifted off his shoulders, although he hadn’t expected the sudden sense of relief. The fact that Celsus was willing to be his friend and ally was surprisingly more important than his own wallowing. He might never recover his lost memories, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t start working on new memories, right?

He nodded his head towards the other in return, his smile growing a little more genuine than the almost grimace it was before. Celsus was a kind soul, one who definitely did not deserve to be caught in that horrible house during New Years. Valhalla was thankful that his experiences there didn’t seem to break his spirit. They needed more people like Celsus in the world.

“I’ll still be looking for answers myself,” he told him, not wanting Celsus to think he would change his mind about going out on his own. “But… for now I should get back before my wife wakes up and realizes I’ve snuck out again,” he added sheepishly. “My name is Chris Gallo, by the way. In case we run into each other in the, uh, real world. And don’t worry too much about that promise you made to me… I’ll make sure to put up as much of a fight as I can.”

Valhalla's situation still drew some concern and worry from Celsus - it would probably not be entirely abated while the other knight was as exposed as he was - but he could visibly see at least some of the tension easing, the smile on the man's face very reassuring.

"If you find any, or if you wish to have someone help you in finding answers, please don't hesitate to call on me," said Celsus, and then a smile of his own flickered across his face, a laugh escaping him. "And yes, you don't want to worry your wife, I'm sure she'd miss you quite terribly."

Chris Gallo. He put it to mind, made sure he remembered it for later.

"I'm Fritz St. James," said Celsus, eyes twinkling behind his glasses. "I'm sure we shall run into each other outside of these forms at some point, so it's nice to know I'm now able to know who you are."

He gave a little nod, his face softening.

"I wouldn't expect otherwise," said Celsus, and gave a low bow of respect to the other knight, one arm at his waist, the other against the small of his back. He probably could have gotten away with a handshake, but this was his normal method, after all, and old habits were hard to break.

"Please, take care of yourself, Valhalla."
