Moto shot M'paji a death glare at his outburst, but didn't seem to do any good -- he kept talking. She kept silent, though, and let Kwana respond.

Her turquoise eyes shot from red lioness to yellow cub, her claws out and digging into the hot sand. Surely her sister was bluffing -- it was something Firekin would do.

Mpaji was surprised that neither lioness didn't severely batter him at that second for his pesky exclamation of fact. And even odder was the firekin seemed extremely amused. What kind of strange race of lion was this? One thing was for sure, he didn't like being called little pet, not one bit, but he tolerated.

My goodness! How many brothers and sisters did this darn King have? Upendo'Mpaji himself was an only child, all these brothers and sisters were strange and foreign to him. In actuallity only childs were extremely rare, most mothers had at least two cubs.

He tried to return his own sharp gaze to the Firekin, but couldn't. Her sharp white teeth were far to menacing to keep a proper hold. He squinted, trying to blur her image, maybe he could still hold fast, but they were all so large. . .

"I didn't make assumptions. . . " he faltered, and looked away. "I merely asked a question." EXILE!!! What on earth did this lioness do? He didn't know much about exile, but he was fairly sure it had something to do with never returning to the homeland. He held his tongue to ask just what exactly granted the lioness such a demotion in status. The firekin lands didn't seem to be shaping of to the commune of lions working together he had expected.

He figured after his falter, he better look brave. "I'll take the punishment I deserve for what I say and I'd rather die at the paws of you, than a coward. If I didn't think you wouldn't punish me, then I wouldn't have said it." There, he had let it out, and he braced himself for a blow from the lioness in front of him. No doubt he deserved it. He was Moto's 'slave' afterall.

Briefly, but only briefly, Kwana considered granting the haughty wretch his wish and slaughtering him then and there. But, she decided, the little cub amused her, and thus she would spare him. Chuckling softly, she spared her sister a glance. "Impudent indeed. You'll have to tell me of Kimeti's reaction to him when we meet again, sister. I am sure it will be...quite the sight."

Still chuckling softly, she returned her eyes to the cub, expression softening somewhat. "You, little pestilence, must learn to hold your tongue should you wish to survive long in this desert. I hold my attack only because the thought of your impudence baffling my idiot of a brother greatly amuses me--take all care to irritate him for me, little pet, and perhaps there shall be a reward somewhere in your future. Now,"

Lifting her head, she glanced back the way she had come, smile growing wistful. "I must be off. I'm lingered too long in these sands; the so called Firekin are too great of cowards to disobey their king, even if it means murdering the one they secretly praised as queen." Her expression faltered, and she looked away, setting her sights on the sands beneath her feet.

After a pause, she started away, speaking quietly back at the pair. "Goodbye, Moto.. Trust none in the pride--they will only betray you as they have me."

((Bah, my job just kinda snuck up on me.))

Moto let out a silent breath as Kwana spoke. Upendo'Mpaji was spared for now -- but she dared not to think of what might happen if he spoke in such a way to Kimeti. She'd warned him. He didn't belong with her, and he'd told him that several times.

It wasn't making her feel any better.

"Thank you, Kwana. I hope we will see each other again, and perhaps under better circumstances."

(( I'll add a closing, but yeah, then we're finished I'm thinking. Thanks for the RP! ^.^ ))

Mpaji nodded at Kwana's words, his face was now yet again submissive, he had nothing else to say, no harsh words to speak by. Silence echoed around him, a silence he knew he would have to tolerate for many days to come as they neared Moto's lands. At first he had thought that it would be wonderful to meet all of Moto's relatives and land, but he was beginning to see the bitter truth behind it all. Would he be able to hold his tongue, or would he let slip his rebelious ways and die at the hands of the one called Kimeti.

He could hold his tongue if he wished, surely Kwana must understand this, and against Kemeti he would hold his tongue, he hoped. If he stuck close to Moto and made himself seem of little use, perhaps they would be accepted in without his seperation from his now 'guardian' as he percieved her. Surely she wouldn't stick up for him if he were in danger, but Moto would stick up for her. Perhaps that was what the Firekin needed, a dose of loyalty. Perhaps they needed some pain, maybe Kwana was exiled to learn that pain and bring it back to the pridelands.

These thoughts were to deep for a young cub to be thinking, he was to remain silent by Moto, that was his task. Thoughts of treachery, sneaking, thievery, working underneath Kimeti's nose, those would come later, as he wisened in a life among the Firekin. If the Firekin once called her queen and sent her to exile, surely they would find their just rewards.

For a long time Mpaji stood there, watching Kwana fade away from his short vision. The Firekin may betray them, but he would be sure not to betray Moto, meaning he must listen to her every move and request no matter how foolish it seemed. "Goodbye. . . " he whispered under his breath and then turned to Motomillia. "I'm ready to go to the land you call home," he muttered silently and dipped his head in submission, trying best to play the part of slave.
