 "Yes, none of those...insufferable ladies that have nothing but fluff and fashion in their heads." The ones with no common sense and that were too snooty, so he hoped Josiah had some good luck. "A nice woman with common sense, a good working mind, not too focused on all the money and fashions...Someone he can share some interests with."
Chuckling, sighing a bit too, "Ahah...you're right...Alright I walked into that, well I shall keep an open mind then. So long as you do too." Hearing the door, standing "Ah I'll get that," not wanting to be rude and just sit there. Going to the door to answer it, seeing the woman that was standing there, frozen a moment as he looked at her. Recovering his words, "Ah, hello, you must be here for Lenora. I'm her friend, Alister, she's right in here." Motioning to the room she was sitting in, smiling a bit to the young woman.  Smiling, she let out a light chuckle as he admitted lightly that other then a delay into going to the park, there was no damage done. "I'm glad then, I wouldn't want to be unladylike like that after all." Causing injury or anything like that, shaking her head, "No no, you haven't bothered me at all. Not in any way at all."
Nodding, "Yes...it may not quite be proper for me out by myself, but I desperately needed an escape for a bit. And I agree, it is a lovely day for a walk in the park. Away from all the hustle and bustle for just a little bit at least. It's prettier in the park at least, the flowers and the grass, the pond," the ducks waddling and quacking about.
"That would be lovely actually, thank you, I would like to join you. I'm Marlena, it's lovely to meet you Josiah." Starting walking with him into the park, making sure if anyone else was in the park and walked by, that she knew were friends of her family, she would tip her hat to sort of cover her face. She just didn't want them to rat her out to her folks that she snuck out. Thankfully there wasn't anyone to really hide from in the park so far, so she was having a lovely walk with Josiah.
"It is good to be back here in the city...our family was abroad for a couple weeks on a holiday. We just arrived back on ship, I'm glad to be back on familiar ground." If that made sense, like she was just glad to be back home. "It was a great trip, but it's still hard not to feel a little homesick." Josiah she felt comfortable around, to just chat with him a bit. Seeing some ducks and ducklings nearby, Marlena looked in her little purse she had with her, and she lucked out, having some crackers that she had stowed in there. Taking them out and breaking some pieces she knelt a little and tossed some to the ducks, giggling watching them flock to the crumbs and sort of frolic and nibble at everything.
"They're so cute, I just can't help myself sometimes, if I have crackers or bring some bread with me. Would you like to feed them some?" She still had some bit of the crackers left.

I'll play the wicked stepmother and scare them off before the marriage can happen. Yes, that would fit the bill for him and me. I want him to be happy and have a match is suited well for Josiah." Lenora and then drinking some more tea. She grinned at his comment about her being right and chuckled at that."Your sure did my friend and I'll try to. Who know, you might meet her today for all we know."Vivian was expecting either Rupert or Lenora to answer the door. It was neither of them that answer but a man that looked familiar to her for some reason that wouldn't come to her. Vivian did noticed that he had frozen for a moment there, wondering if there was something wrong with her outfit or hair. She blushed slightly before he recovered."Hello, I am and not Josiah as he would be dealing with duties of the House of Lords right now."Vivian said back to him, hoping it didn't sound like she was implying that she didn't want to see Josiah but she was here to see Lenora mostly.She came in as the attractive man let her in and motioning into the parlor where Lenora was."I hope I'm nor interrupting anything. I can come back later if need be." She said to both Lenora and Alister, not knowing that they had been talking about her of all things. Lenora then heard someone knocking at the door. She was expecting Rupert to answer it but Alister had beat the butler to the door. It was taking longer than she expected at the door and she about to see what was up until Vivian appeared into the parlor before Alister. A smile spread across her lips to see that it was Vivian of all people. " Welcome Vivian, it's good to see you, it's been too long since the last time. No, you're were not interrupting Alister and I. Join us for some tea. I assume you haven't had any since you came straight here after work right? Anyways let me introduce to you to my lifelong friend here. Vivian, this is Alister Bancroft and Alister, this is Vivian Allura Tucci, who I mentioned earlier. She the one that plays the hammered dulcimer so well." Lenora said, hoping things will go well between the two.

Getting a good laugh out of that, imagining Lenora trying to be a wicked stepmother just to scare off one of those snooty ladies. It was highly amusing to think about. Of course his focus was now on the woman that had come to Lenora's home. Closing the door behind him as he followed her in to where Lenora was. Smiling, nodding and putting a chair over for her, "Yes join us. We're having a nice tea time, with some yummy pastries I brought."
Having the chair pulled out gentlemanly like to push it in for her once she sat. "Oh, well the, it is a pleasure to meet you miss Vivian, Lenora speaks highly of your skill. You see, I own and run the Opera House in the city here, and I need some new musical talent. If you wouldn't mind giving me a demonstration of course." Kind of like auditioning for him, to play her dulcimer there. But, if Lenora said she was as good as she said, he believed his dear friend.

Len notice how Alister was treating Vivian. She grinned at that and hid it with her cup of tea by taking a sip. Lenora let Alister take control of the conservation. She put on the innocent look on her face as Rupert brought in a tea cup for Vivian before she could sit down. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mr Alister. Let me put down my dulcimer."Vivian said as she went over to one of the sofas and placed it there."Lenora, I did go by the house to get my dulcimer before coming here."Vivian said as she sat down in in the chair that he pulled out for her. " Ah, that's where I have seen you before now, the few times I have gone to the opera with Lenora."When Vivian heard him asking her to play for him, she was speechless. She looked over at Len and knew that she had been planning for the two of them to meet by the look on Len's face. There was no way that Len would know that she would come today but Vivian knew without a doubt."Lenora Emerald Higgins! How long have you been planning to introduce us to each other? I know you and don't deny it. I don't know whether to be mad, upset, or glad." Vivian said to Len, sagging in her chair after saying all that. Work has bee stressful all week and it showed. Then it hit her that she may have insulted Alister indirectly."Forgive me Mr. Alister, I did not mean for that comment to sound rude to you. Sorry, this past week at work has been stressful more than usual. It's only going to get worse as the Ton begin that season soon." Vivian said to Alister, her face slightly red from embarrassment. "I am pleased to meet you today. I know Len and she can be sneaky when she wants to." Giving a glaring look at Lenora before taking a sip of her tea."As for playing the dulcimer for you, I have been out of practice and hadn't had enough of it in the past few months to be ready for an audition on the spot." Vivian said with a slight blush on her face. Oh she hate being put on the spot like that and she blames Lenora for it.

Staring puzzled a moment, Alister tilted his head in confusion at Vivian's reaction. Watching her when she spoke up to Lenora in such shock. He was confused, what she meant, if Lenora had planned to introduce them for some time to get Vivian a job, or for some other reason. Scratching the back of his head in confusion.
Chuckling lightly, waving his hand, "no no, that's quite alright. It wasn't rude," being light hearted about it. Nodding understandingly, "ah well...yes work can be stressful depending on the environment." And the clientele and all. "Ahh well, then maybe in a couple days you might be able to stop by the Opera house for a proper audition then? I'm sure you play better then you imagine and aren't so out of practice." Smiling, still interested in hearing her play and seeing if he could hire her for the opera house.

Lenora admitted to them even though she had hoped that Vivian wouldn't have called her out on it. She also realized that she had put Vivian on the spot and Vivian hated that."I'm sorry for putting you on the spot like that. You came here to relax and play music, not for an audition." Lenora said Vivian saw he reacted to what she said to Len and blushed. She also wanted to disappear in way as she felt like she had put her foot in her mouth... Yet he still wanted to hear her play after she has had some practice in."I would like to do so Mr. Alister, I simply don't know when I will be able to come by to."Vivian told him, wanting to change jobs but didn't want to leave her sister short handed either."If you were to hire me at the opera house, what would I be paid? " She asked him, wanting to be able to weigh her options and consider them before hand.

Nodding a bit, "I do hope we can find a time, the sooner the better. Not to rush you of course, it's just since the new opera season will start for us soon." So they'd need to get into auditions and practices and such soon. As she questioned the payment, "It would be about 12 pounds an hour to start, and once the season got underway with ticket sales and such, it could go as much as 30."
"Things go fairly well when the season starts, usually...so the usual payments increase for those employed with the opera house once the season gets underway."

The amount of what she would be paid was more than what she was being paid at the hot springs right now."I understand and I would need to let my sister know when I would need some time off for the auditions. I wouldn't tell her right off that it would be an audition to work at the opera house. We are a bit short handed right now so if you do end up hiring me, I would need to give her a two weeks' notice."Vivian said back to him, wanting to work at the opera house but knew her sister wouldn't approve of it. "Yes, I did come over here to relax and play Vivian. "" Good, once we are done with our tea and cookies, we all can retire to the music room and play." Lenora said before taking another sip of tea She was glad that things were going well and could tell that Vivian was interested in working at the opera house." That does include you Alister as it has been a while since I last heard you play the cello."

 "That's good to know and permit me to be your escort this afternoon. I'll make sure that the cads and any other men from trying to hurt you away." Josiah said being all gentlemen like. The woman has the most interesting eyes that he had ever seen. They were yellow-orange color that interested him. Usually unnatural eye colors meant it was a different creature in the elemental world but with using his mage sight and she was what he sees; a human. He was relieved at that as there have been elemental creatures that look like a human, only to lead them to their death. "It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Marlena," he said as he went with her into the park. It was like a breath of fresh air to him once they were inside the park. A sight of relief escaped from his lips. "Yes, it's always good to back home after a trip. Where did you go on your trip? In a few days I'll be heading back to the country estate to relax after this current session of House of Lords is over." He said to her as she looked into her purse for something. Which happened to some crackers. He grinned when he saw her breaking them into smaller pieces for the ducks. "Yes, I would if you have some to spare. I usually try to have something with me to feed the ducks but came here from House of Lords so I didn't have a chance to bring something myself. "

Nodding, "I understand. Of course, I wouldn't want you to up and leave without giving your sister notice. So I understand, if you were to get the time to audition and were hired, that you would need to give her enough notice to find a replacement." Smiling, understanding the situation.
Sitting back down to finish up his drink and cookies, "That sounds like a perfect idea, I would enjoy listen-" He was about to say listening along when Lenora called him out. Stating that he would have to play as well. Sighing a little, "Alright...I won't make you twist my arm...I shall join you ladies in a musical performance." Not wanting to deny his friend. Marlena smiled, letting out a light giggle at that remark. "How chivalrous of you, I'm glad to be in such good company. I appreciate the thought also, thank you. I do hope we don't come across any cads though." Nodding a bit, "I'm afraid I've left my sword at home, so there won't be any way to help you fight them off then." Grinning, obviously joking around, about the sword. It sounded like an amusing idea though. Some swashbuckling.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well Sir Josiah." Not even aware just that moment that he was 'sir' She just said it formally, not just as a title. Nodding in agreement, "It is great to be back home. Well the trip was lovely too, we went over to Ireland for a bit...of course it was a long trip. Mother got sea sick, so she was more then likely to be happier to be home then any of us. Ahh, going out to the country? Well that sounds nice, more of the green scenery then all the same dark buildings. Not to knock home of course."
Chuckling, meaning it was nice to get out to the country, despite the fact she liked being home in the city after the trip. She still liked the greenery, which was why she loved the park here so much. "Ahh, the House of Lords? I always wonder...what does go on there? Or are you sworn to secrecy." Wondering if it was just a big ol' boys club, where they pal around and talk and smoke and drink. Or if they actually spoke about more substantial things.
"Oh of course...I think I have a few more." Digging into her little bag, she pulled out some more wrapped up crackers. Just the few more she had left, smiling, handing them to Josiah. Continuing to break up the bits she still had in her hand afterwards. "I guess it wouldn't be quite a good idea to have crackers stowed away in your pockets when at the House of Lords. I can imagine the mess, smushed bits of crumbs and all." Joking a bit, just to make the matter amusing. But she was glad to find a kindred spirit thus far.
Throwing some more bits of cracker, watching the ducks and ducklings swarm on it all.

She grinned slightly as Alister began to say he would enjoy listening to them play before Len called him out to play the cello. "Your play the cello? If I was to learn another instrument to play, it would be the cello. Do you know how to play other instruments as well or sing?" She asked him, not knowing that singing would be a touchy subject with him. " That's is nice for a change, not having to twist your arm." Lenora said before finishing up the last bit of her tea.She listened as Vivian talk to Alister. When she asked if Alister play another instrument or sing, she paled slightly as she wasn't sure how Alister would respond to the singing question.

Nodding a bit, "Indeed, a good way to look at it. Since it is your choice what to do, then she will have to just get over it, to use your words." Smirking a little that she said it the way she had.
"Ah...yes the cello, that's mostly it...I tried a tad bit of piano, but I've got clumsy fingers." Chuckling, mostly joking to give a bit of humor there since Lenora was being humorous too about the twisting his arm bit. "Yes...you could say the tea and treats helped that today, so you didn't have to twist my arm." Winking playful about it, as if he was a kid that needed to be bribed with sweets.
Though as he stood up from his seat, he was in the process of pushing in his chair when Vivian mentioned singing. The chair gave a bit of a screech as it was pushed in with some force, an unintended reaction. Gripping the back of the chair, his knuckles white from the force of the grip. "NO...No...I mean... coughing clearing his throat after he had said that so bluntly and a bit loud. Calming himself, "No...no singing...Are we going to play now?" Not meaning to say it rudely, so it just walked himself quietly over to the area they would play in. Going over to the cello, taking a few deep breathes to calm himself.

She hadn't known that Alister would respond like that about singing."I'm sorry... I keep managing to put my foot in my mouth... I better leave before.."Vivian said before finishing that statement. Her face was bright pink from embarrassment and she got up from the table. Then in what seem like a flash, she was already at the door and out she went. Her mind went on auto pilot and headed towards nearest park. Not paying attention to those she passed on the way.
" Vivian! Wait.... and she's gone." Lenora said began before hearing the door slammed shut."Alister! How could you do that? She didn't know better than to ask you about singing. She might not want to audition for you now... My poor Vivian, is not having a good day..."

Alister wanted to smack himself in the head when he saw how Vivian reacted. It was just a reflex reaction for him when someone touched on that subject. He didn't like it being mentioned, or having to discuss it, so he had a bad reflexive reaction all the time. Like the screeching chair, or slamming his performance notes and things down on the nearest surface when something was mentioned at the Opera House in regards to him and the singing. He couldn't help it. But he wished he did when he saw Vivian running out.
Like a gust of air, Alister was past Lenora and out the door before even hearing her scold him. Being a bit taller and therefore longer legs, he caught up to Vivian fairly quickly as she neared the closest park. Soon coming up behind her, Alister caught her arm before she crashed into a couple people coming near them, pulling her toward him. All very fast motions, but now Alister had Vivian hugged against him, the adrenaline slowing down some now.
Realizing after a moment it might not be the most appropriate thing to be standing there in public, hugging onto a woman that he was not married to and/or courting. It also wouldn't have been good for either of their reputation, but he couldn't help but hold her there a moment. Soon holding her at arms' length, "You didn't have to run away like that..." Speaking calmly, sighing as he raised a hand to run his fingers through his hair. "I am truly sorry about my...reaction before. The matter of my singing...is a touchy subject. I...rather not explain right now, it is not a pleasant story...and still is a very sore story for me. Lenora might even do so later regardless." Knowing his friend would inform Vivian of what had happened if Alister didn't at some point.
Taking hold of her hand a moment, "Would you forgive me for being such a brute. I did not mean to cause you to run off. Will you allow me the honor of escorting you back to Miss Lenora's. We can enjoy playing our instruments and just have a nice time the rest of this afternoon. Besides, you forgot your dulcimer back there." Smiling warmly to her, bowing and kissing the top of her hand. "Accept my apology?" Questioning, holding his arm out to escort her back to Lenora's.
