Secretly, Amphitrite was a little thrilled to see him thrown off - it hadn't been the purpose behind her apology, no. But it was a nice little bonus.
"Playing at? Nothing." She crossed her arms in front of her chest and bit down on her lower lip, toying with it between her teeth for a moment. "I just - I'm literally a different person now, and... I just don't want bridges burned for stupid mistakes someone else made. I mean, if I can help it."
She looked at him, shrugging her shoulders. "If you want to hate me for being a senshi, fine. Or even if you just don't like me as I am now, fine. But I'd rather be - okay, we don't have to be friends or anything, just - " The corrupt half-smiled at him. "Can we just like... start over? Or something?"

He didn't trust her; that suddenly casual demeanor was both questionable and confusing, two emotions that Aurostibite found highly disconcerting. His eyes narrowed as he watched her, a wary expression on his own face.
"I don't hate anyone on principle," he said, almost automatically, and then scowled. "I just disagree with everything that your kind has stood for in the past. You've taken away things from people important to me, and now you're here on this side, like it's so easy to erase what you've already done."
And he was not just talking about the stick throwing incident, but in general, his chest tight. Aurostibite drew in a sharp breath, trying to rearrange his features back into his usual cool facade.
"Start over...how, exactly?" he asked, frowning.

Something in her face changed when he said that, twisting her face into something quite ugly. "They are not my kind, " she spat, and the venom in her voice was and wasn't meant for him. "Corrupts, yes. Order, no. Nothing about me coming here was easy, so please don't - " It was like she'd quite forgotten herself, and she was trying to forge something better from this potential alliance that she'd already tainted.
Amphitrite wrapped her arms around herself, feeling the first real touch of insecurity she'd felt her own skin in awhile. "They've just - please don't call them my kind. I understand why you're angry, and if I've ever taken anything, I'm sorry - but they've taken from me, too, so... don't. Just don't."
She took a breath to steady herself after that little tirade, sagging and then straightening again.
"Well... " She willed a smile, tight around the edges, but a smile nonetheless. "Like this, okay? - follow my lead? - hello!" She extended a hand politely. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Captain. You can just call me Amphitrite."

He'd made her angry now. Surprising, perhaps a little, but at the same time Aurostibite gave her a strangely scrutinizing look, head tilted to the side as he considered her. He hadn't expected such an intense irritation over being associated with the rest of the White Moon, and it was not like Mintaka's quiet determination, but a clear, twisted hatred.
He was not going to apologize. Aurostibite felt he had little to answer for in that regard, but at least he seemed to have pulled her genuine feelings to the front so that he could see them. And strangely, although he was immensely mistrustful of all in general, especially the corrupted, he at the very least believed her.
Amphitrite's hand was given a flat look, though not a disgusted one. And after a moment, Aurostibite stepped silently forward, and his gloved fingers touched hers, giving a small, but still normal shake of her hand.
"I'm Captain Aurostibite," he said quietly. "It's..." Clearly a struggle to make proper words form, but - "...nice to meet you, Amphitrite."

In spite of all the bitterness a minute ago, all it took was Aurostibite's hand in her's, one polite shake, one curt greeting, to make her smile again as though she'd never seen the things that she had. "Aurostibite - sounds like frostbite - suits you, Captain, " and was Amphitrite teasing him, or was she praising him?
Nothing in her smile gave her away, and she gave his hand a friendly little squeeze before she released it. "We should spar again sometime, if you'd be okay with it - I know you were coming at me seriously, but like, all the hard feelings aside, that was pretty fun."

The look he gave her was one that clearly indicated he was still quite wary of her; but he still shook her hand, as short as it was. The tease about his name made his frown deepen, Aurostibite's expression shifting into half a scowl, but he let it go and sighed.
"I suppose...sparring would be all right," he said grudgingly, and it was late now; he needed to get back. Aurostibite gave Amphitrite a little incline of his head.
"Til next time, then."frayedflower I FORGOT I HADN'T CLOSED THIS OOPS

Wary was fine. Skeptical too. He could side-eye her all he wanted, because Amphitrite knew she would prove herself worthy of that handshake just by continuing to act as she had been, and would continue to do. It felt good, she thought to herself, because she'd never really known what she'd done as a senshi, who she might have wronged or hurt in her misguided attempt to serve the white moon. Now, facing one of these people down and beginning to set it right, it felt incredibly gratifying.
"Good; I'll hold you to that, Captain, " she declared, squeezing his hand once more before releasing it. And thought to add before she turned and slunk back to the shadows of the alleyway to finish her patrol for the night, "If you ever need assistance, not that you would, but - feel free to call me, if you ever have need."
And with that, and a faint rattling of shells, she was gone.
