Alyx definitely hit his mark, burying his blade to the hilt. Unfortunately, the wolf thought that it might take advantage of the man's hubris. Leaping forward, the wolf put its forepaws up and pushed against Alyx' chest, forcing him down onto his back and pinning him there. Struggle as he might, Alyx was unable to break free. Luckily, he still had his arm free, and he poked furiously at the animal's shoulders and neck, trying to get it to loosen its hold on him. If he could get it to shift some of its weight off of its front legs, he could slip out. Alyx did not want to remain in this compromising position for too much longer. Being defenseless and without armor was not exactly his favorite way to spend combat.

The wolf lunged at Alyx' face with its massive teeth, but he rolled his head to the side and the animal's mouth gnashed at the dirt instead. Alyx was busily dumping poison into the Dire Wolf's system, trying to do enough damage to get it off of him. He wasn't going to be this lucky forever. He rather enjoyed the prospect of keeping his face where it was. It was a thoughtful gesture, on the wolf's part, but Alyx was going to have to politely decline. With a sword. To the wolf's face. Maybe it wasn't the most polite declination, but it definitely got the point across. Alyx was going to have to step up his game, though. He wasn't good enough at dodging to make it a viable combat strategy. He needed to be better if he was going to solo with it.

Alyx finally managed to get his arm free enough to stick the point of his sword into the wolf's eye, and it reared back, swiping at its prey with a massive forepaw. The hit didn't make it through Alyx' armor, but it did send him away from the beast for some distance, allowing him to get his feet underneath him and to prepare for the next assault. Raising the point of his blade to direct it toward the monster, Alyx began to channel the last of his AP into another double strike, and then he'd have to change tack to start recovering a little energy. This fight was damn near over, though, so he might just try to finish it instead of getting any AP back. His double strike simply did not do as much damage as he could otherwise do. The poison was an incredible boon --he still needed to get that last ring-- but he could deal a serious amount of direct damage if he were using The Gloomshard instead.

Alyx' attack connected, and the one-eyed wolf leaped back to get a little space to breathe. Big mistake. The more time the wolf spent backpedaling and stalling for time, the longer the venom in its veins would have to do its job. It was very well close to dead, with about a quarter of its health bar left, and even that was rapidly decreasing toward its inevitable death by spider venom. Alyx sheathed his blade and made the command to switch out his weapon for his reserve. Gloomshard appeared as he reached down for a hilt, and he drew it, the blade flashing in what light there was. It was time to get serious. Enough poison had been stacked that he could go all out and finish the wolf with direct damage.

The wolf ducked down and covered its face with its paws to try and shield itself from Alyx' thrust, but the tip of his sword slipped through the cracks and he carved out the wolf's other eye. Now blind, the wolf howled and Alyx jumped back. He sheathed his sword at his waist and took an evasive stance. The wolf might rally to make one more attempt on Alyx' life, so he'd just do what he'd done before, and take special care to avoid that attack. It let him get a little extra practice in evasion, anyway, and since that was his weakest area, it couldn't hurt to practice as often as possible. He kept telling himself that he was going to start a fight and just dodge until he was comfortable with it, but he always seemed to just murder whatever he was fighting instead.

And just like that, it was over. Alyx had been overly cautious when he'd been expecting the wolf to get back up. Blinded and weakened by poison, the wolf simply lay where it was, its breathing gradually weakening until it closed its blinded eyes and began to glow, exploding into a shower of polygons. It felt like it had been easier this time. Or maybe it was just more routine. Alyx wasn't sure, but he turned to face the dungeon and took stock of his equipment, switching back to as his main weapon. He didn't know what monsters would be inside the dungeon, but he would assume that they were vulnerable to poison until he was told otherwise.

Alyx stepped through the arch of trees into the sunless, overgrown labyrinth that was the Gloomwood dungeon. He wondered what sort of creatures lay inside, and wandered along what might be loosely called a 'path' until he came to a small clearing. Inside, he found a rather massive beetle, two feet tall and iridescent black. Alyx made ready to fight, drawing Spider's Fang and stepping forward in line with his strong arm. The beetle seemed almost bored with Alyx' appearance, and turned to face him. It opened its shell and flapped its wings experimentally, warming up for the fight ahead. Alyx advanced cautiously and aimed a thrust at the beetle, trying to keep distance from the giant, deadly-looking horn.

Alyx' sword glanced off the shell of the beetle as it bucked its head and parried his attack. He stepped back and prepared for a counterattack, but it seemed that the beetle was mostly just concerned with not being impaled. The Gloomking took another shot at it, deciding to take charge of this fight. If reluctant insects were all that the dungeon had to offer, then Alyx wasn't entirely sure what he'd been concerned about for so long. To think of all the extra experience he could have been getting if he'd just come in here earlier. If the beetle didn't come up with something a little more aggressive, Alyx would just have to go on full offensive.

Critical hit! Alyx drove the point home, making a brand new hole in the beetle's carapace, between its head and body. Even with what felt like a really solid critical, though, he failed to bring the insect's health below 75%. He managed to get it into the yellow, though, so he'd definitely managed to deal at least 20% of its health with that hit. And his poison was taking effect, so at least he knew that that was still going to be working in his favor. All he had to do was chip away at this thing's HP one clean hit at a time. If all of the enemies in the dungeon were this resilient, then he was in for the experience of a lifetime in this labyrinth.

Alyx' blade scratched along the beetle's shell as it turned away from him. He was left completely open for whatever attack this enemy might be preparing. His mind raced to try and figure out what was coming. He remembered that some beetles could shoot burning hot chemicals from their backs. He closed his eyes and prepared for the worst. He heard a buzzing sound and tensed, waiting for a hit. The buzzing got fainter. Alyx opened his eyes and the beetle was gone. He watched as it flew away, into the trees. His mouth dropped open and he dropped his hands. "What? Come on. Really? You're running away? Spoilsport." Alyx grumbled and turned to face the next room.

~SPECIAL EVENT: ALYXANDEYR~

You have encountered the boss room!
You poor soul.


As you push through the gargantuan, moss-covered doors of the boss room, you shake your hand to flick off the grime that clings to your fingers. Beyond the doors, you see a beam of light breaking through the canopy of leaves above. The beam falls upon a lone sarcophagus made of bone with spidersilk stretched between the supporting ribs, encased in the embrace of a long-dead, colorless white spider, utterly massive in proportion. The spider's legs wrapped around the grave as if both to protect it and to keep it close.

You approach cautiously, as the light glistens off of the decayed corpse. As you near the grave, you begin to sense a growing dread. You reach forward to touch the leg of the spider, and it is almost incorporeal. It crumbles away at your touch, and the spider's corpse blows away as a gust of wind flows through the clearing, drawing the doors shut behind you with an ominous finality.

A small mote of light floats above the sarcophagus, and, for a moment, nothing happens. You hear a quiet rattle. The creaking of bones. The sarcophagus lid begins to open. You step back as something stirs inside. A hand, clad in a glove made of spider's silk, and plated with a gauntlet made of shimmering white material, rose from the sarcophagus and grasped the rim of its tomb. Another hand followed, taking hold of the other side. The fingers tightened as the creature lifted itself slowly.

A gaunt face rose, wearing a glistening white crown. Long, white hair flowed like wisps of silk over the creature's shoulders. It wore magnificent armor: glistening white plate over the most luxurious cloth. The face was almost as colorless as its armor, and the skin was drawn tight over its bones.

The creature looked at the mote of light and you could see a deep sadness in its black eyes. A raspy voice whispers through withered lips. "My sweet.... How long it has been... Who has slain you? Who has taken you from me, as I was taken from you, so long ago?" The figure seems to realize that it is not alone, softly cocking its head to the side as if listening to some faint whisper.

As you look down, a tiny spider skitters past your foot, toward the sarcophagus. The figure lowers its hand and the spider climbs onto his palm. "Ah... Our children yet live, my sweet... We are not forgotten..." The figure raises his hand to his eyes, the spider on the back of his gauntlet. "You are as beautiful as your mother... Now, little one, tell me... What has happened?" The figure watches the spider intently. "I see..." the voice wheezes. "There is a would-be usurper in my Gloomwood... Run now, little one, it is not safe here for you."

The figure lowers his hand to allow the spider to move to the ground and skitter into the trees. His voice rasps "My sweet... My Queen... I am weak... You gave me so much... I must ask one thing more from you... I will avenge you... But I need your help." The man cupped the mote of light in his hands and pulls it to his face, the light glinting off of his eyes. He closed his eyes and parted his lips. Leaves tumbled across the ground on some subtle wind. The trees began to dance. Soon, a fierce wind was blowing through the clearing as the figure inhaled. The light from the Heart began to trickle like a stream through the man's lips. Soon, it was gone, and the man tilted his head back. Bringing his head down as he exhaled, the man's eyes opened. His eyes shone white.

Turning his head, the man looks at you. His voice has power now. A seething, barely-controlled rage is evident in every word, though he spoke with carefully measured deliberation. "You who has murdered my children. You, who have murdered my Queen. You, who has stolen my name. You. Shall. Die!"

The man stood from his tomb as it burst apart. In his gauntleted fists were a sword and shield. Raising his sword, the man points the tip at you. "Face ye now the wrath of the Gloomking, and perish!"

21-40:Rise of the Gloomweave: Spiders crawl from the Gloomking's mouth, growing into Augmented Gloomweave spiders, which join the battle. 21-26=1, 27-33=2, 34-40=3. During this, his roll3 is considered a defense roll.
41-80:attack. Deals 4 poison damage for 4 rounds
81-90:Embrace of the Gloomqueen: The Gloomking gains an armor of spidersilk, gaining 10 damage resistance for the round. During this, his roll3 is considered a defense roll.
91-100: Wrath of the Gloomking: The Gloomking roars, a fierce gale erupting in the clearing. He attacks with his sword, his roll3 150% its normal value.

The Gloomking's first attack will always be Wrath of the Gloomking.

At 50% (250/500) health, the Gloomking will enter a second stage of combat. Consult a moderator for additional information.
