Feral pokemon in cities were just part of the spice of life. Most of them didn't bother you if you didn't bother them so long as they weren't really hungry. Most of them got by alright for the most part, not like it was hard to find food in bins especially outside grocery stores and restaurants. Of course that meant they tended to get a lot of them hanging around outside Meat Palace and so every so often somebody was sent out to shoo them off if they were a bother. Since his arrival at the Palace the job had usually fallen to Taavi if he was on shift, he was kind of qualified after all.

Over the last few weeks he'd got to know the regular faces, which ones would make a mess and which would just take what they wanted and move on. One of the regulars was a small gray coated Vulpix and... well some pokemon did well and others didn't. He'd felt bad for it the first time he saw it; it had got itself stuck in one of the big bins presumably in search of a meaty smell, getting in had been a lot easier than getting out apparently. He'd rescued it of course and hadn't even got bitten which was always a plus. Then, because it had looked up at him with big sad green eyes, he'd fished out the burger it had been eating in between whining about being stuck and shooed it gently on its way. The next time he'd seen it a gang of Purrloin, led by a Liepard, had cornered it and the part rack of ribs it had managed to get hold of; he'd cut off a couple of the ribs for the Vulpix, tossed the rest to the gang and then Valour had seen them off.

After a few similar incidents when Taavi stepped out of the back door the Vulpix would creep out from under one of the dumpsters to greet him, hopeful for something better than it could reach on its own or scraps left by larger pokemon. As he was a soft touch he usually ended up finding something for it, didn't seem like it was part of a group and it was tough on your own when you were small.

Then there'd been the rainstorm, he'd stepped out of the door and had started to hurry down the street when he heard the pathetic cries from under the dumpster and.... Well he couldn't leave a fire type in the pouring rain so he'd picked it up and taken it with him, just for the night he'd informed it.

The next morning Taavi woke up hazily at stupid o'clock to a warm nose pressing against his face and, well, it seemed like he had a Vulpix living with him now. He shifted over to give his new room-mate a bit more space on the bed and fell asleep again.

History: A feral taken in by Taavi, Swift doesn't remember a time when he wasn't on his own. He could have been born feral, or perhaps he was hatched in captivity but was lost very early in life. Either way his life until he met Taavi was one of scavenging and uncertainty, constantly looking over his shoulder in case stronger pokemon wanted to steal his dinner. So far as he is concerned life with a human companion just cannot be compared to life without, why would anyone not want such friendship and security?

Personality: Swift is a reserved character, near unfailingly polite and even even friendly once he decides somebody is 'safe' but not given to expressing his deeply held thoughts or emotions to those he doesn't know well. He is also a slightly nervous fellow, well versed in what happens to the small and weak when they have something the strong happen to want. He values his friendship with Taavi and Taavi's other pokemon a great deal and does his best to look out for their wellbeing, he will never be the one to take the last bite of food and will never fail to listen to their problems if they want to talk.

Swift has grown in confidence since he evolved into Ninetales and is now quick to react to physical threats against his friends. He remains socially reserved and slow to trust but his increased strength means that he doesn't deal with this by cringing anymore.

The side door to Meat Palace slammed back on its hinges, struck the wall of the alley and rebounded at the person who had shoved it open with such force; Taavi kicked it away from himself and spat another foul curse this time in Finnish, it was an unpleasant assertion about Tony's parentage.

"And you know what?" he spun around to shout back into the building. "You know what, you sad fat ********? You- you're pathetic! You're nothing but a pathetic, slimy, racist bag of s**t, and you can take this job and shove it up your fat pasty a*****e, you a*****e!" Before Tony could make any kind of a reply Taavi gave the door another kick to close it, ripped off his apron, tossed it in a dumpster and stormed off down the street. He was shaking with rage, part of him wanted to go back in there and shove Tony's face down on one of the grills- okay he didn't want to but he wanted to want to. After all his hard work, after all the s**t he'd put up with all it took was one b*****d making up lies about him to get him fired? ********, he'd needed that job! It had been awful but he'd liked most of his coworkers and he'd needed that job!

Taavi swept out of the alley onto the main road, bumped against a woman tapping away on her phone and shot her a poisonous look along with another Finnish oath. He knew it wasn't her fault, she'd been just standing there and definitely didn't deserve to be treated like that but hey, guess what? Life wasn't ******** fair now was it? Look at her with her fancy phone and her expensive coat- ******** her, ******** ********. He'd needed that job. He'd really needed that job.

Why had he ever thought it was a good idea to come here? He should never have left Hoenn.

History: [Found at the haunted house attraction by Taavi, more details to follow.]

Personality: Melody is a simple creature as pokemon go; she loves company, pretty things, tasty things, and music but most especially jazz. While she's not much of a talker she's emotionally intelligent and is quick to try to comfort a friend in need, whether or not she will succeed is another matter entirely of course.

This was it then.

This was it.

He'd packed everything up into his huge rucksack and had a last check around to make sure he hadn't left anything behind. He thought about running the gas an electric meters down - he'd put his money on them after all - but in the end he decided against it because what was the point? It wouldn't achieve anything and he'd probably just feel guilty about being wasteful later, plus whoever moved in next would probably be grateful to find each one with a few bucks on it.

So, this was it then.

There really wasn't anything left for him to do here and there wasn't anywhere for him to go when he left but there wasn't any point in putting it off longer.

Taavi rose from the couch wiping his eyes, shouldered his bag and stepped out of the apartment.

The door closed behind him, and the key to it remained on the kitchen counter where he had left it.

History: Mulder and Scully found Kielo's abandoned egg bumping along the bottom of the harbour in Camphoreon and brought it to Taavi to look after. He had planned to return the Feebas to the wild but when she turned out to be shiny Taavi decided that it would be safer for her to stay with him. People do some pretty awful things to shiny pokemon.

Personality: Evolution has been as good mentally as physically for Kielo, which is to say very good indeed. She has retained her kindness and thoughtfulness (as well as her tendency to hold grudges, to be fair) but her confidence has blossomed along with her new physical prowess, she now tries to be a good friend because she likes to see others happy rather than because she is trying to make up for perceived failings. Along with her new confidence and power has come a determination to protect her friends from harm, she is a determined battler with a cool head who will fight until the end for those she loves.

Past information
Kielo is pronounced KEE-e-lo, meaning "lily of the valley" in Finnish; a pretty name for a fish who feels extremely un-pretty. Kielo is painfully away of how weak she is compared to all of her friends, how clumsy and awkward and generally lacking in just about everything. She does her best to make up for her perceived inadequacy by being a good friend and is a genuinely kind and thoughtful sort, if one who is prone to bearing grudges against anyone who hurts those she cares about even if they do it unintentionally.

History: Taavi met Mulder and Scully on a boat trip to Peppermint Island. The pair took a liking to him and followed his boat when it returned to Kodo and a short while later Taavi placed them both in pokeballs to prevent anyone from catching them.

Scully evolved to Dragonair shortly after battling a Houndoom, which had been trying to steal Isaac apparently on Alyssa's orders.

Personality: Scully is a sceptic, she won't believe unless she sees (or sees the logic) and she certainly doesn't have any time for notions of faith, luck, or anything else so fuzzy and intangible. She also doesn't have a lot of time for overly silly behaviour but so long as people aren't making fart noises she's generally friendly and open to meeting new people.

While she often thinks Mulder is a bit of an idiot she wouldn't be without him.

Scully and Mulder spend a good deal of their time together just off shore, Mulder's size and build makes it hard for him to come visiting on land!

This was, to be honest, really not the right time. He couldn't think of a worse time really and yet....

Taavi sighed and sat down to take off his shoes and socks before rolling up his pants to above his knees and wading into the shallows. The water was freezing but the Lapras tentatively nicknamed 'Mulder' had come in a shallow as he comfortably could already and so he was just going to have to deal with numb feet.

The Dratini who was potentially 'Scully' was sitting on Mulder's back, her slender body curled carefully around a pokemon egg; both adult pokemon were looking at him expectantly. "Alright," Taavi said aloud, reaching out to lift the egg into his arms, "I'll take care of it until it hatches and then... well we'll see what seems best okay?" He wasn't immediately familiar with the pattern on the shell but it put him in mind of a Feebas, and that was usually a good indicator so until he could check online it seemed like a safe assumption. The egg was cold and still but it was probably supposed to be like that.

Where was he going to keep it in Abel's apartment though? A large bucket?... That would probably work actually and... well this might be, like, the worst possible time but he couldn't help the feeling of excitement that was starting to bubble up inside him. Hadn't he always wanted to raise an egg? Taavi turned to look up at the distant tower that housed The Egg, a small smile tugging at his lips. "Is this a sign? Better things to come?" There was no response of course but he somehow felt better all the same.

Keeping his new charge tucked close to his chest Taavi waded back towards the shore; even if he was wrong and this was just chance not some kind of sign it was a good thing in a bad time and it wasn't like his life could get much worse, right?

History: Taavi found the Scyther badly injured on a berry gathering trip. After her wounds were treated she chose to remain with Taavi to repay her debt, but soon enough she became close to him and his other pokemon and now has no intention of leaving.

Shortly after Sky evolved Taavi was given a Scizorite stone that had been confiscated after the KSO broke up a gang that had been haunting the outskirts of Sandalwood.

Personality: Strikes the Sky values strength, loyalty, and honour above all else. She can be rather arrogant and uncompromising but she would willingly fight to the death to protect any one of her friends.

History: Taavi found Aurelia on a trip to the island of Tarragon. When she spotted Taavi and Sasha coming up the ridge towards her she came out to investigate, and then promptly started posing like a diva when Taavi got his phone out to take pictures. She followed them for the rest of the day and, when it was time to leave, she decided to go with Taavi.

Personality: Aurelia is beautiful and she knows it. She enjoys being pampered and admired, really she would probably have liked life as a contest pokemon but she is slowly getting used to the idea of battling with Swift's help.

He was still afraid of rejection, of Alyssa's reaction, and just generally anxious for no good reason, but when he got home after the trip to Tarragon island Taavi gave his application to the KSO one last read over. There really didn't seem to be anything else he could change and so he took a deep breath and clicked the button to submit; there, it was done, and he couldn't do anything more about it.

Having submitted it late on the Monday he hadn't expected to hear until Wednesday or Thursday at the earliest but a bit after lunchtime on Tuesday his mailbox pinged with a message. Taavi groaned, if they were responding this fast it was bad news right? Maybe they weren't recruiting anymore, it couldn't just be that he wasn't good enough right? He wasn't confident about much but he had a lot of relevant skills and experience and-

Just open it.

Taavi opened the message. Taavi read the message. Then he read it again. He started to grin. "Abel! Abel, hey! Come see this!"

He wasn't able to start his training right away, well he could have but he wanted to see out the last of his week at his current job - leaving them in the lurch would not have been cool - but the week seemed to go on forever!

The first week of August, and the start of his career with the KSO, couldn't come soon enough.

History: Taavi met Cesario during a KSO training session where she was very dramatically playing the part of a kidnapped pokemon. She went home with Taavi afterwards but remains independent, coming and going as she pleases.

Personality: Cesario has watched too many endearingly awful amateur dramatics performances of Shakespear and absorbed the spirit of it all into her personality. This tells you most of what you need to know.

History: Nebula was part of a shipment of pokemon from the TR labs destined for the general market that the KO managed to intercept. One of three from the same clutch, Nebula and his siblings were only hours and so Taavi - stuck in the office with a broken arm - volunteered to socialise them until homes could be found. He quickly became very attached to Nebula however and Nebula to him and ended up adopting the eevee himself.

History: Dawn was bought by a trainer with more ambition than actual skill, Dawn had no respect for him and refused to battle. After a few months of trying the trainer wrote it all off as a bad idea and released the Lucario outside Camphoreon, neither was especially broken up about the parting. In search of a new trainer Dawn headed back towards the city, and was spotted along the way by Taavi and Scully who flew down to see what the out-of-place pokemon was up to. After some translation via Strikes the Sky Dawn decided that she would be prepared to trail Taavi as a new trainer and allowed him to place her in a pokeball.

Personality: Dawn is a sober pokemon who takes training and battling very seriously. Discipline is important, respect is important, and taking good care of yourself and your teammates is important; missing lunch is unacceptable an irresponsible. Outside of battling Dawn enjoys yoga, dance, and is a great appreciator of almost any kind of music.
