"It is a little" Marlin agreed cheerfully, "Although I guess it's called that because of the colour" or at any rate he was pretty sure that the tomato breeder that had come up with the breeder had named the tomatoes for the cartoon characters due to the deep indigo blue of the tomatoes.
"And they're actually done - they start off green and then turn blue like this - you can try one if you like, or once Dad gets here you can try one of the upstairs ones. I have one on the balcony called black cherry and another one called white peach because it's white and all fuzzy."
He had others too since he enjoyed growing tomatoes - well at least he did as long as the tomatoes weren't red.

Her eyes widened slowly but surely as he broke through the reality that 'tomatoes only came in red and green' to expand her knowledge and world. Had she not seen the blue ones right in front of her she would never have believed him when he said there was a black one.. or a white fuzzy one!? Why did she only ever see red or green ones on tv if there were so many kinds? The ones that grew in their gardens were all big juicy red ones.
Her eyes peeked back at the blue one however and she had no reason not to believe him. "I didn't know there were so many colors." She answered finally, awe obvious in her young voice.
"I want to see them all later, yes! Do they all taste different? Does the fuzzy one tickle your stomach?" She couldn't think of anything fuzzy she'd ever eaten, only really having had the peaches that came already cleaned and doused in syrup for fruit cocktails.
"There are quite a few - I know of about eight in total including red and green" Marlin said cheerfully. "Some tomatoes are even a mix of the colours - like the black pineapple. A lot of the non red tomatoes generally tend to be heirloom varieties though."
He nodded as Eva asked whether all the different tomatoes tasted different "They do, some tomatoes taste sweet and rich like this one here" he pointed to the blue tomatoes in the pot as he spoke. "Whilst others like the white peach one have a milder taste."
He might have continued, because apart from with Lisa he generally didn't get much of a chance to talk tomato, but at that moment the shop bell tinkled indicating it was time to head back front so instead he said with a wink "I've had a few of the white peaches tomatoes and they've not tickled my tummy, but you can try one later and let me know what you think," adding "And it looks like our cue to head back to the front."

Marlin can have one last customer if it works for you and then his Dad can come in to relief him so that Marlin can take Eva to do after shop things

Somebody's mom was in for a looooong chat on the way home about the colors of tomatoes and why they didn't have more colors in their garden or at dinner time. Evangeline was busy trying to file away all the silly sounding names he was offering to her.
First thing was first though, she was more than happy to play taste tester to any and all of the silly tomatoes he was willing to offer her. Once they were done working though.
The tinkle of the bell was, of course, that sign that reminded the little girl that they were working, and Marlin didn't even have to remind her, her tiny feet quickly carrying her out to try and find the source of the noise.
Her little wiggling jog to the front of the store came to an abrupt halt when she spotted someone, and she piped up with a cheerful greeting and gave a mild little fairy curtsy. "Hello!" It was good to be polite to customers right?

"Marlin are you there?" The tinkling of the shop bell was followed up by the sound of a voice, the owner a man who looked to in his late sixties or so, a look of distraction on his face as he glanced around "I'm looking for..."
His voice tailed off as the sound of Eva's voice registered, slightly distracted brown eyes glancing down "Hullo, who do we have here?"
"Hi Mr Hendrickson," Marlin had been following up behind Eva as she made her way back to the front of the store, recognising the older man as one of his more regular customers. He had a granddaughter if he remembered right "This is Fairy Princess Eva" he said gravely, although there was a twinkle in his green eyes that he couldn't and didn't bother to suppress as he made the introductions. "She's been helping to make sure that the shop runs smoothly" he winked at Eva ruining the solemnity of his expression, before turning his attention back to the other man.
"Are you looking for something for Marion? Is there something we can help you with?"

Eva grinned pleasantly as the older man looked to her. She had been ready to rattle off her name but Marlin beat her to it (which was more fun anyway - she beamed as he played along calling her a Fairy Princess). When her cousin winked she couldn't help but giggle a little in her hands before pulling herself together enough to give a solemn nod. She was helping and it was a very important job, she couldn't be acting too silly.
Eyes returning to Mr. Hendrickson she watched expectantly curious what he was looking for. A funny top hat? A space suit? Maybe even something scary? But then Marlin had said something about a Marion, and Eva's mind went on an endless spiral of who that was. Was she close to her age!? Did they go to the same school?
Mr Hendrickson smiled at Marlin's antics, the smile lingering as he turned his attention back to the young girl "A pleasure to meet your acquaintance young lady. I don't think I've met a fairy princess before" he shifted his attention back towards Marlin at his question "And yes I am looking for something for Marion - her birthday is coming up soon and I was wondering if you have any fairy wands" his eyes shifted to the star topped wand in Eva's hand "Something like that would be perfect."
Marlin nodded cheerfully "As it happens we have quite a few different types of fairy wands, we have some star topped ones, a few butterfly topped wands and a couple of flower topped wands in stock." Fairy wands were pretty popular and so the shop tended to keep a variety in stock. "We keep the selection over there on the wall with the accessories if you'd like to have a browse" he gestured over in the right direction as he spoke.
"And since choosing the right wand is very important both Princess Eva and myself are here if you'd like to ask our opinion on any of the wands" he winked at Eva again.

If it was possible for her to grin anymore as Mr Hendrickson played along with Marlin Eva did, her nose and cheek crinkling from the width of her smile. And when he mentioned the wand she held hers up immediately, bubbling with excitement. "Oh yeah, I just got to see some of them. There are lots of neat kinds!"
Glancing towards Marlin as he offered his assistance she gave a big and very serious nod. "I can be really really hard to choose! But if you know what her favorite colors are that might help." She may have already been subtly scooting towards the wall of accessories.
Mr Hendrickson pondered Eva's question for a moment "Pink is her favourite colour and she especially likes rose pink, however she does also like purple and green."
To be honest, Marlin had been planning to let Mr Hendrickson do the actual browsing of the wand stand on his own and then offer suggestions if he had any questions, however the older man seemed to be happy enough to continue to play along and it wasn't as if the shop was actually busy and so he smiled at Eva and glanced over at Mr Hendrickson "Actually I think we might have something that might suite" he said as he followed after the two with Eva in particular already making a beeline in the direction of the wands.
He had a thoughtful look at he looked through the star topped wands before pulling out one of the star topped wands with a pink pole topped with a silver felt star that was decorated with pink sequins and a small rose in its centre and held it out "What do you think?"
He let Mr Hendrickson study it, whilst slipping a second one and as it happened the last of that particular style of star topped wand and holding it out so that Eva could have a look at it too.

Rose pink. And green and purple. That should be easy enough!
It was sheer politeness and manners that kept her from bowling past the older man to get to the collection of wands, but she managed, somehow to still her desire to run straight over. Nonetheless as they approached her hands were quickly at work touching each one thoughtfully until Marlin offered her one in particular. Setting down her own wand momentarily she looked over the rosy star wand thoughtfully, turning it over before grasping the end to give it a few wiggles.
Seemingly pleased with both the look (and functionality!) of it she nodded. "This one is very pretty!" Would it be the right one though? She glanced back up to Mr Hendrickson to try and gauge his opinion.
Mr Hendrickson had been studying the wand that Marlin had offered him, but at Eva's words he had turned to look at her "I can't say no to such a sterling recommendation" he said with a smile "And the rose in the middle is a very nice touch" he turned his attention to Marlin as he continued "I'll take it."
Marlin smiled "That's great, lets head back to the till area and I'll ring it up for you." He looked over at Eva as Mr Hendrickson started to make his way over to the till, remembering his promise from earlier to let her hand over any change
"Would you like to give me a hand with ringing up his purchase?" He asked her, waiting for her answer before starting to follow after.
