He is not like you Melvin, he is not cautious and reasonable, he professed to love me while rejecting anything that he saw of who I truly am." He closed his eyes in a rather zen gesture and exhaled.
"I can indeed see why you would be worried, but you must always bear in mind we are hunters and the injuries I sustained were entirely superficial, there is not so much as a scratch on me. If I had been severely maimed your concerns might have foundation but as it is, all they require is a little perspective. I appreciate both your reasons and your emotions on this matter. However all I can do is reassure you that despite Horace's strong aversion to my missy, she is a very amenable sort if one gives her a chance, which so few people do once they see her.." and he tapped his chest on the place where the treble clef lay on America's chest. "..insides."
He opened his eyes again and tilted his head in an almost canine manner as he eyed Melvin. "As for what this is, I could not say it better than America already has. There is no sex involved, there is a certain mutual benefit and you can do as Horace did and take that as some tremendous threat to our relationship or simply trust me as a friend should that I am fine, that I would not put things important to you at undue risk and be happy that things are for the most part pleasant."
"And one of your problems is out of the way."

Despite it all, he felt a degree of relief that Jan wasn't intimate with America at present. That didn't mean things couldn't change, but he hopes that Jan's experiment would preserve his vitals for both their sake. he did have to wonder of that mistake and lesson lead to the fact they weren't having sex, but for now it suited him just fine. Having America and Hirace to dodge around was just a bit too overwhelming. Then again, he supposed it was just America or -
He looked at America and then Jan, but tensed when Jan mentioned Rin's name in front of America. "Do you trust her so much to mention her?"
He was tense now, rigid as he looked at Jan with worry at letting that name slip to anyone but them and without his permission or say so. "Is she so amendable that you would share her name - her presence - with her? Do you trust her-" He had to pause to take a steadying breathe. "Does she trust her with America around?" Should they? Did Jan see America as that important and close to him?
And to follow. "And what problem is gone?" He only felt there might be more.

The mentions of her and sharing secrets had America giving Lawrence an unimpressed look. "I can only imagine what ya'll are talking about. Probably a scam of some sort or another." Shifting her attention back to Melvin she went on, "Both of you can trust me, but you can also trust me to always tell the truth, n'not everyone actually wants that."

Lawrence sometimes made the mistake of thinking that people were capable of being succinct or refined in their interactions, it almost always turned out to be an over-estimation, as it was this time. Melvin was not capable of anything other than direct logic and he raised a brow at how much he fixated on the mention of Rin's name.
"No." he said. "She should not know." though of course with America's brightness and curiosity it was unlikely it would stay that way for very long.
"But America is trustworthy." he reiterated. "Insofar as honesty goes at least. Just yes. Not with. Our personal business."
Rubbing his temples with his finger and thumb he added in clarification to the blonde man. "Horace."

He breathed out for that clarification and rolled his shoulders to free a kink that had developed between them. "Alright then."
"I still see it as a problem but not as big of one I suppose. He will still be distraught, but I'll talk to him. Heaven knows the island sees enough of this sort of thing. Best to make sure cliffs aren't an option. I hate loosing friends."
He shifted to look at the red head. "I appreciate it. I prefer honesty. Feel free to share if you like. If Jan vouches for your character, then I'll be cool with this for now. Just - be careful with your toys."
Taking off his glasses, he inspected the frames and then took out a eyeglass wipe to clean them off. "Now, does my offer still stand? My room is bigger." He still needed to nake progress with Rin's link and America wasn't something he was as an interruption to that. In fact, it might be better to keep a watch in things.
"My floors do have more light than here." He added as he looked at America.

Getting up America just flopped on the bed. "My home isn't home anymore so any'll do. I'm hungry," she complained, voice muffled by the blanket.

"Then your room would be splendid Melvin if it wouldn't be too much of an imposition. I am always very inclined towards having a shower within easy reach, not to mention a kitchen." he smiled approvingly.
"How about when we get there I make us all something to eat?" he said, having been thinking about that anyway. "That is if you don't object to my style of food. It's not very hearty."

"We didn't work hard for your house to not be your home, America." He scolded her, wanting her to eventually move back in after all.
To Jan, he smiled. "Anything is better than living off of coffee and the vending machine." He made his way to the door. "I'll see you too later then. Also, don't mind the exposed wall in the bathroom. It was the only way to get to the pipes. The pressure hasn't been as great either. I'm still working in that too." He informed them and then made his way to the door.
"Text me if you need anything for dinner. You know about the garden, Jan." And to this he gave them one last look and left.
