Make it stop It hurts ༒ ༒ ༒ ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Marshall laid in the bed with his eyes closed until he heard Penelope leaving. She had said something to him but he didn't understand because her voice was muffled by the bedroom door. When he heard her car start he looked out the window to watch her pull away. She's leaving you. Jodi said. She had appeared in the doorway behind Marshall, but he didn't turn to look at her. I said she's leaving you Marshall. Marshall's brown pulled down into a frown then he angrily hit the glass window. "I know she's leaving me." He muttered. Jodi was now hiding halfway behind the door. Marshall's anger scared her. When he noticed she gently shook her head. "I didn't mean to scare you." He said. After that Jodi ran away. He probably wouldn't see her for awhile since he was becoming angry. Today might not be such a good day. Especially to be left alone.
400 was leaping around on things in the room, whispering about Penelope's disappearance. The whole room started having a dark shade, like he had put on a pair of sun glasses inside. Marshall took a deep breath.

xx❀xPenelope drove to the bank first, where she deposited her paycheck from work and withdrew some cash. She thanked the teller and then drove to the supermarket, taking in her freezer-storage bag. The brunette strolled the aisles, piling their things into the cart. She was soon checking out. The only things that weren't on the list that she'd included in her cart were a litter box, cat food, a bed and some toys. A wide smile was on the girl's face. She'd done research and had found that taking care of animals was very therapeutic. Penelope had been planning on getting Marshall a kitten for months now, but she finally had worked up the nerve to surprise him. He'd also have someone to be at the house with him - that wasn't a hallucination - when she had to work or go out. The brunette paid for everything, wincing at the price, and piled the items into her vehicle. She glanced at the clock before she pulled out, heading towards the local animal shelter. She'd been gone an hour and fifteen minutes already.

Make it stop It hurts ༒ ༒ ༒ ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Marshall was trying very hard not to loose his grip on reality. But he kept fading in and out of the dark shade that was flooding his head. He didn't like when things turned dark, because that meant he would start having auditory hallucinations which tended to be worse than visual ones. It was like he was stuck in a crowded room and he could hear the voices of hundreds of people, clearly, at the exact same time saying mean things about him. It was basically too much to handle. They would always tell him that people were out to get him as well. He always felt like he was under persecution, especially when he was alone. The feeling Marshall had while walking around the house was the equivalent to the suspense any person felt while watching a horror movie. He felt like he was in the dark, walking but something was always behind him. At each door, he would slowly open them not knowing if something would be on the other side. His stomach had non-stop butterflies. He trembled. His heart raced. But there was never anything there, the suspense just went on and on forever.
Eventually Marshall left the bedroom and when back downstairs. Jodi was sitting on the couch, but she wasn't showing Marshall her face. They're coming for you. They're coming. I've seen it. They were waiting for Penelope to leave, and now they're coming. Marshall's heart sank deep into his chest. He could hear the rhythmic bumping in his ears along with faint whispers of voices of people he didn't even know. Just voices. They're coming. They want to get you. Don't answer the door. Don't pick up the phone. Marshall didn't even know what was coming. Most of the time his mind told him that he was a test subject of an experiment, and scientists were coming to take out his brain. That was the most common delusion he experienced. Once, he was so scared of the scientists taking his brain that he was going to shoot himself in the head just so they couldn't have it.
"Who's coming?" Marshall whispered. Jodi didn't respond, but the voices in his head started murmuring "scientists". Marshall rushed to the kitchen and grabbed the biggest knife he could find out of the silverware drawer. He then stood with his back against the front door in case he had to make a quick escape. "I'm not afraid of you!" He yelled, and as he did a man in a white lab coat descended down the stairs. All the voices in Marshall's head started to scream "run!". Some of the voices were women, some were men. Some were kids, some sounded abnormally unhuman, but they were all saying the same thing and Marshall obeyed. He darted out the front door, then tripped over a rock in their front yard. As he went flying to the ground he was also being flooded with so many directions. Run down the street! Stab him! Stab yourself! Don't let him touch your brain! Run to the river! Save Jodi! Just end it! It was too much to listen to and Marshall just started to yell. The scientist started to multiply and approach him with vials, and syringes. One carried a saw. "Get away from me! Stop!" Marshall was swinging the kitchen knife all over the place as they started getting closer to him.
Thankfully one of their neighbors in the house right next to Penelope, and Marshall noticed Marshall having a psychotic break as she watered her flowers. She quickly gasped and dropped the hose. Her and Penelope had always talked about what to do in a situation like this. She was well aware of Marshall's condition, just like many of the other neighbors, and she quickly called 911. Then she called Penelope who was on speed dial.
The rescue team got to the house pretty quick, under five minutes. They tried approaching Marshall, but he couldn't tell the difference between the scientists and just regular people. He ended up slicing one of the medic's arms, and that's when the team decided it would be best to sedate Marshall. One of them was finally able to get the shot into Marshall's neck and he was instantly out cold. They then rushed him to the nearest psychiatric hospital.

xx❀xPenelope had arrived at the animal shelter and picked out a kitten when she got the phone call. It wasn't even a moment before she was back in her car, flooring it to the hospital her neighbor had told her they were taking Marshall. I should never have left him. I should have checked in with him. Sobs racked her body as she drove, her gas pedal nearly to the floor of the vehicle. She swerved in and out of traffic, parking recklessly when she arrived. The brunette ran into the hospital, reaching the front desk. "Please, I need to see him. My boyfriend. His name is Marshall, and they just brought him in," she begged the woman at the front desk, her hands shaking. The lady nodded, typing away at the keyboard. "He's heavily sedated. You can go on in, and the doctor will be in soon. Please alert a nurse if he wakes," she said softly, relaying to Penelope the room number and directing her. The young girl took off again, her shoes slapping the floor. She only relaxed when she reached his room. "Marshall..." she breathed softly, covering her mouth to muffle a sob. She made her way into the room, sitting by his bedside and grasping his hand. "I'm so sorry..." Penelope buried her face, her grip on his hand rather tight. As she sat, her body shook with quiet sobs.

Most days my demons are silent,
but when they talk, oh, God, how they scream. ༒ ༒ ༒ ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Marshall was so sedated that he was flowing in and out of consciousness. As the doctors worked on getting his vitals stable he would mumble about various things. Scientists, Jodi, 400, but mostly Penelope. Finally the doctors were able to get his vitals back to normal. His heart rate was much better, but they also filled his system with Thorazine, a drug that stopped hallucinations. Although this drug also turned him into a zombie. He couldn't feel any type of emotion really. It just kind of acted as a road block. As they started injecting the drug into his system Marshall's eyes wandered around. He finally saw Jodi in the corner of the room fading in and out of reality. He started to become sad knowing that he wouldn't see her anymore, and Jodi was also sad. She walked over to Marshall and took his hand in hers. I'll see you on the other side. She whispered, then she disappeared. Marshall began to sob to himself, the doctors tried their best to ignore him. But none of them could truly understand. Marshall's closest friend, someone he loved enough to call a sister. A girl who had been around his whole life, she wasn't even real, and it was always a rude awakening for him to be reminded of that.
Later he was woken up by the sound of a girl crying. He thought it was Jodi, and he deliriously came to. When he looked over he realized it was Penelope. His brows furrowed. "Penelope..? Why are you crying?" He asked. He went to reach out for her when he realized his arm couldn't go too far without being stopped by an IV cord. His heart beat started to pick up, and the beeps from the machine became faster. "Where am I? What happened?"

xx❀xPenelope raised her head when Marshall began to speak. She touched his face, shushing him softly. "Calm down, Marshall. It's okay. You're at the hospital," she told him, willing him to calm down. She stroked his hand, removing her hand from his face. Her bright blue eyes were sad and tired, but she was giving him a hopeful smile. "Nancy called the police, then called me, because you were waving a knife around on the front yard and screaming. You cut one of the medics pretty bad..." she paused, biting her lip as her smile faded. Instead, she frowned tiredly at him. "The doctor's going to be in soon to talk to us about what we need to do." She looked away from his face, pulling her hands back and placing them in her lap. The brunette stared down, tears welling in her eyes once more. She knew that whatever the doctor was going to tell them wouldn't be good news. More medicine, maybe even a prolonged stay in the hospital. Her stomach rolled, and she sighed, lifting her eyes once again.

Most days my demons are silent,

Once the heart monitor began beeping rapidly a nurse rushed in and checked Marshall's pulse. She noticed that Marshall's Thorazine IV was blocked, and she pulled it from under him. "There we go Marshall, that should be better." As the drug flowed back into his system he felt a wave of nothingness. The sweetness of a lack of emotions. His hallucinations were also no where to be found. His heart rate slowly began returning to normal. "Oh, and hello Penelope. I'll go get doctor Lee." She said pleasantly before leaving the room. Marshall looked over at Penelope again then bit his bottom lip.
"I'm sorry Pen." He mumbled. He was really more sorry for himself. He hated when things like this happened because then he was forced to take the medicine he hated so much. "This is thorazine." He said while pointing at the IV. "I hate it." He looked towards the ground somberly and as he did the doctor came in. "Hello everyone. How are you feeling Marshall?" He simply shrugged, he hated doctors. All his life he hated them. The doctor simply smiled then asked if he could speak to Penelope in a seperate room.

xx❀xPenelope bit her lip when she realized her words weren't soothing him. She was about to call for a nurse when a woman rushed in, pulling the IV out from under her boyfriend's body. She thanked the nurse softly before she left, looking at Marshall as he spoke. She patted his hand tenderly, eyes soft. "It's okay, Marshall. Don't worry." She knew how much he hated his medicine, but she also knew that it made his hallucinations disappear. Penelope looked up when the doctor walked in, smiling softly at him and nodding when he asked to speak to her privately. The young girl stood up, leaning over and kissing his forehead. "I'll be right back, Marshall," she told him, following the doctor out of the room. "I-I don't know how this happened... He had a brief episode last night, and he's usually not this bad when I leave him alone... I was only gone for an hour and a half," she told the doctor, her voice frantic and scared. "What do we do?" she asked softly, feeling tears well in her bright blue eyes.

Most days my demons are silent,
but when they talk, oh, God, how they scream. ༒ ༒ ༒ ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Marshall simply nodded when Penelope said she was leaving. Once she was in the separate room the doctor listened to everything she had to say. He let out a deep breath then touched his fingertips together. "Ms. Colins, I understand your concern about Marshall, but the truth is all schizophrenics are so unpredictable. I looked at Marshall's medical records and this is only his first time being institutionalized as an adult, so that's good. But I also see he has a tablet prescription for thorazine that he is clearly, not taking. He serves as a threat to not only the community, but himself, as well as you." The doctor slowly nodded, he knew conversations like this could be hard for family and friends. Honestly the doctors in this hospital were a little desensitized to patients though, he didn't quite see Marshall as a person.
"Now I know the medicine can be hard for people with his condition. It causes an emotional block which I've seen patients with family or, girlfriends, boyfriends, stop taking the medicine because of this. It also causes him to loose a world that he's lived in every since he was a child. But this is no excuse to stop taking the medication. So, now to what we do. We could hold him for you if you'd like, or you could take him home. If you do decide to take him home though, you have to make sure he doesn't stop his medication. He will visit with one of our therapists every other day to check in on how he's doing and if he is still taking medicine. But if he stops coming to the sessions, or has another episode we have no choice but to institutionalize him."

xx❀xPenelope listened to the doctor, remaining silent and attentive. She bit her lip and looked at the floor, her mind a tangle of thoughts. On one hand, he would be safe if he was institutionalized. On the other hand, however, he would hate it. But he would also hate being at home and having to take his medicine. She rubbed her forehead, pulling a hand through her thick hair. "He hates taking his medicine so much..." She gave a sigh. Penelope knew either way it would be hard. And she didn't know what to do. "Just... Let me take him home. I'll convince him to take his medicine. I'll talk to him. And, if he doesn't... Then you can have him," she told the doctor, her eyes tired. She knew how hard it was going to be, what with her working. Some days, she was able to work from home. But, other days, there was no way around leaving the house. "Can he go home tonight?" the brunette asked, looking up and offering a tired smile.

Most days my demons are silent,
but when they talk, oh, God, how they scream. ༒ ༒ ༒ ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ The doctor smiled. He was pleased with Penelope's cooperation. Most family members were much more demanding, or not so happy with the deals this facility presented to them. "Yes, Ms. Collins. He can be released tonight. I'll let the nurses know. You can go back into the room with Marshall for now and the nurses will fix him up for release. Just remember, he must take the prescription which you can pick up at the front on your way out." This time the doctor wasn't even looking at Penelope as he spoke. He was scribbling things down on a notepad. He started to leave the room when he remembered something, then looked up with a somewhat eerie smile. "Oh, and thank you for your cooperation." Then he left the room.
Marshall on the other hand was just laying in the hospital bed looking up at the ceiling. He was wondering what would happen to him. He never wanted to be institutionalized, ever since he was first diagnosed that was always a fear of his. That he would go crazy, then end up living in a hospital like some psycho in a movie. He felt like he wanted to cry, but he just couldn't. The emotion wouldn't rise up to the surface. It just sat there bubbling below somewhere deep in his mind. He sighed then turned to look out the window.

xx❀xPenelope smiled in relief, giving a nod. She thanked the doctor softly before venturing back into Marshall's room. Her smile faded as she looked at him, turned towards the window. She sat back down at the chair by his bed, gently touching his arm. "Marshall? You get to come home tonight," she told him gently, offering a smile. She rubbed her thumb in rhythmic circles on his forearm, her mind tangled. "But... you're going to have to start taking your medication, or else they'll take you away from me," the brunette said softly, her thumb stopping its slow movements. Her jaw clenched, and she tried to keep from crying. Marshall was a different person on the medicine, and it broke her heart to see him like that. He was extremely distant, and she knew he hated taking them. But, if he wanted to be with her, he would have to start. Her grip on him tightened slightly as a tear rolled down her cheek.
