“Aha!” Keke reared up onto his hind legs, an awkward position to be sure that hurt the base of his tail, but one that allowed him the use of his talons for more polite eating. He was focused on the maneuvers and on his pride at managing to get food into his maw without making a horrendous mess. It was actually fun - he was playing with his food, and his food was so good. He was so focused, in fact, that he missed the comment about him being at the table… and why should he not be?
He did not however, miss the threat that Xenosa posed to her not-mate. That was notable. Not too surprising, but notable. Was this normal behavior for a Magescian meal? It clashed, almost, with Omard’s cordiality and the lovely linens. Surely, they would not mess up their clothing with fighting? But perhaps they did. Or, more likely, Xenosa could not turn off her ferocity. His sister had a similar problem.
The question directed towards him was one that he had to think about. He wanted to tell the truth - that he taught - but, just in time, he remembered that he was supposed to be a Bonded. Bonded did not teach - they couldn’t. “I… wait. For her to come back.” he said, looking away. It was not quite a lie: He did look forward to Xenosa’s visits. “I don’t like to be away from my bonded... “ In fact, he heard that the bond made it painful to be at a distance, “And I am so happy when she returns…” The lies were coming easily, unexpectedly so. “I was not old enough before to travel, and my magic made me so sick on boats, so I could not come here with her. But!” he thumped his tail on the ground, “This time, she packed many pieces of ginger and I was able to come.” Truth be told, the ginger did not help. “I am delighted to finally come with her, and to meet her family.” And eat this food, and observe these people, and be in Serenia… It was so nice! Of course, he was not bonded, and he could operate perfectly well on his own, but she had told him to lie and so, he did. He gave Xenosa a questioning, hopeful, emerald look. Did he lie well?

“Well we are all very happy to have you.” Omard said with a smile before digging into his own plate now that everyone had been served. “Now that you are here, will you be staying?” The question was more so directed towards Keke, though he did glance at Xenosa.
Xenosa on the other hand, held back a smile. Only the faintest whisper of a smile crossed her lips as she took a few more bites of her food. If Omard was still looking for holes in their story, she would let Keke decide what he wanted to answer the other Orderite. He wasn’t doing a good job at lying, he may as well continue on with them if only for the sake of continuity. She personally didn't’ see anywhere that she needed to interject in the little exchange. They were getting more information from Keke than they’d ever received on what she was doing and would eat up any morsel of information he gave them.
“What have you two been up to?” Xenosa asked before they could ask Keke another question.
“Oh you know, parents are bothering me about this and that. Everything has been pretty quiet.” Replied her husband who sat back. “We’re going to need to have a little chat, Aevah passed by hoping to see you.”
“Well that’s too bad.”
“She received a visit from my parents, they’re talking about grandchildren, Xenosa.”
“Please, I really don’t think this is the place to be speaking about such things.” Omard laid his hand on Sythen’s.
“No, no. I think this is the right and proper place to be speaking about such things. We were going to have to talk about it at some point!”
“Well we obviously can’t have children.” Xenosa said in a sour note to her voice. “We may as well adopt. I’ll leave for a few months and we’ll come back with a child.”
“The child won’t look like us...”
“I obviously don’t have the parts that you enjoy, so what are you expecting?”
Omard looked at Sythen giving him a pleading look. “I think we should try.” Xenosa looked from one man to the other, Sythen looked angry while Omard looked like he was about to pass out and then she threw her towelette and began laughing.
“You can’t be serious?” None of the men answer, her expression faltered and became disgusted. “I can’t believe this.” Xenosa pushed her chair and left the dining room to head to her room.

“I hope so!” said Keke. He certainly would want to stay here, now that he was here. Serenia promised to be a fascinating place to explore, and he was so excited to be here. A whole new land, and a city besides! What a great… how long was he staying, anyway? He and Xenosa had never actually talked about it, and he hadn’t thought about it either. He decided, as he chewed the delicious food and let the meaty juices run over his tongue and down his throat, that he didn’t need to think about that just yet.
More interesting was their conversation. He wanted to congratulate them on their new… nest? Clutch? What did one call multiple Magescian infants? Did they even have multiples, typically? Well, either way, from the looks on all of their faces, it did not look like a time for celebration. Keke frowned as Xenosa stormed out, perplexed, and fed himself another clawful of delicious food.
“I’m afraid I don’t understand.” he said, turning to Omard and Sythen, “Why is she upset?”

Sythen gave Omard a smug look before he himself stood up to also walk out of the diningroom. Omard sighed loudly.
“Ah Keke, things are so complicated,” He picked up some of their plates to hand them to the servants. “Sometimes I wish I had never fallen in love with a noble.” And with that he too exited the room to start on the dishes.
