Dawson gave him a curious look.
And then the very mature brow wiggling began.
"You got a someone, huh?" he prompted Chance. "Awwwwww sheeeyiiiiiit. This I gotta hear."

Chance shrugged noncommittally.
"Depends on your definition of someone," he answered mildly.

He sucked his lip and made a popping noise. "Wayell, daown where I's from, a 'someone' be like a human beein' like me r' yew," Dawson explained, heavily exaggerating the accent and going half speed. "They's yewshly gawt a set a'lims like we does, n' they come in aaaaaawll sortsa cuhlurs, lahk whait, blahyuk, yeller, n' some a' thaym r' reeeeaaaal smartassy like this feller I known--"

He was snorting with laughter.
"Okay, okay," said Chance, waving a hand. "Holy s**t, I need a second to actually decipher what you're saying. What exactly are you asking me, anyway? You want to know if I have...what?"
His brows arched in amusement. "A girlfriend? A boyfriend? Is that what you're asking me?"

"Oh mah Gawd, boy, just talk," Dawson ordered him with a snort, giving Chance a light knock with the back of his hand. "Sheeyit. I know you, you don' do normal s**t or whatever, so don' talk me in circles with yer damn semantics now. What's up with the someone?"

"You're right," Chance said mildly. "I don't do things the normal way."
He took another sip of his soda and wiped his mouth on the back of his hand, mulling things over in his head. "I just...may have found someone that I like enough to want to see more than once," said Chance, after a moment's consideration. "It's still kinda taking some getting used to, but, you know."
He shrugged one shoulder. "It's comfortable. And really nice."

There we go. Dawson sat back and popped open his own soda to drink as he listened. "Awright, comfy n' nice is a good start," he said with satisfaction. "Yer gonna hafta give me more than that, though, bro. C'mon now." He beckoned with his can. "Tell me about 'em. I'm a pretty good wingman, grease the wheels for ya."

He smoothed a thumb along the outside of his soda before taking another sip of it.
"We met a few months ago," said Chance. "It took a bit of time to get to where we are now, we were just good friends at first, I wasn't ever intending to take that step, and then it just sorta...took off one night while we were away."
He wasn't going to go into too many details, for Otto's sake. Chance flicked a look at Dawson, a little smile on his face.
"It was supposed to be just a one night thing, I think, but, well...it wasn't. He's a good guy." A laugh escaped him. "Maybe a little grumpy and surly at times, but his sass is one of his more appealing aspects." Chance took another swig. "We get along better than I ever thought I would get along with anyone, really."

Dawson bobbed his head and hummed, grinning in return. "Aww, lookit you. Glad t'hear it, buddy," he congratulated with a little toasting motion of the can. "Ain' easy findin' a piece a'good things here. You gonna stop bein' stupid mysterious 'bout Mr. Someone, though, or m'I gonna hafta guess? S'it someone I know at least?"

Chance gave a little hum, smiling at Dawson.
"I'd tell you if you guessed it," he said with some amusement. "But yes, it's someone you know."
How well Dawson knew Otto was a mystery, but Chance was relatively certain that they at least kind of knew each other. They'd talked during the whole vine incident, after all.
"He's younger than me, if that helps at all."

Dawson gave a harsh sigh. "No, it don'. Look, you gonna tell me straight, or m'I gonna make off like a bandit with yer food n' say good day? 'Cause this." He made a back and forth motion between them. "You playin' semantics again, bruh. I like games, but c'mon now, this silly. You got someone that makes ya happy, lemme know who it is so I can meet 'em, y'know, talk you up n' see if they too nutty even fer you in stuff. Like a good pal does!"

He was being deliberately obtuse on purpose, and Chance flicked a gaze towards Dawson, weighing his options, an amused smile on his face as he raised his soda to his lips to take another sip. It wasn't hiding, it wasn't running away, and it wasn't bragging; it was just a quiet admission, after all.
Chance looked away and said simply,
"Otto Graves."

He regretted every insinuation of helping Chance out almost immediately.
"Otto, uh..." It was Dawson's turn to play stupid for a moment, pretending he had to remember who it was. "Oh! Kid from the lighthouse, right? I figured y'all at least knew each other." At least, they'd acted familiar enough. He hadn't figure like that, though.
(But then, he figured, the more Otto fooled around, the less he'd have to do with bothering Maebe, right?)
Still. He thought Chance had better taste.
"How'd ya'll meet?"

Chance's eyes slid slowly sideways to rest on Dawson's face.
"That's right," he said mildly, as casual as ever. "The guy from the lighthouse. We met a few months ago. I was out on the field late at night, and he happened to be taking a late night walk. We sat and talked for a while, found that it was easy to get along with each other."
He gave a little shrug, his gaze still focused on Dawson.
"I thought you guys knew each other, though..?" Chance asked curiously.

"Not really know know, but from Twitter a bit, yeah," he replied. "Grabbed him candy on Easter. Mostly just know him as one a'Maebe's friends, though." It was Dawson's turn to shrug.
Ah, look, food. Those poor brownies were just dying in the sun. He went to their rescue and made several happy noises as he chewed.
"Hadn't really seen him in person before all that virus s**t broke out. Not really the best circumstances t'see a guy's first impression, but I guess he's decent."
