Andy had chosen wood for his own defenses, which Gale could appreciate. He brushed hay off of his trousers while the other man worked, and then both of their little walls had been built, and it was just a matter of seeing what would stay and what wouldn't.
"You're doing remarkably well for someone just on the island," he said, with a little smile. "I'm quite impressed."
The shadowlings came swarming out, snapping and biting, and once again, the last wall of Gale's defense was the weakest. He let out a hum of thought, frowning a little as he surveyed the wreckage left behind, Gale crouching down beside it and picking up a handful of hay.

"I have to give credit where it's due, I've got an unfair advantage in Jordy...and Peyton's a great trainer." Andy chuckled and watched the shadows come swarming like vile FEAR filled ants, "Besides, you've kindly let me learn from you...so it's a lot easier than it might've been." As before, the first path got destroyed, but Gale had similar issues, so he simply swore under his breath in Spanish and allowed himself to feel pleased that three of four paths were doing well...and that his princess wasn't shadow food yet. "Peyton's nice and capable," said Gale in agreement. He hadn't seen the other hunter in a while, nor had he seen Jordan, but he had no doubt of their abilities. He did, however, flush a tiny bit at the easy praise, mostly because he simply wasn't used to people realizing that he himself was just as capable.
"Well," he said, as he moved towards his princess again, standing and staring over it with a scrutinizing expression. "You seem like a fast learner, I don't have any doubts as to the fact that I think you'll do very well in getting acclimated with the routines here on Deus."

What Andy didn't say was that Peyton was also hot. Which was probably not the best way to think of someone that he was supposed to call 'senpai' or something, buuut...whatever. He'd barely been eighteen when he'd gone into a pod and his brain was still there...stuck in dumb boy land where the pretty girl was concerned. This time, Andy didn't wait and watch Gale, he just went to work shoring up defenses that had lasted and putting up a new one for the first Path. "Thanks Gale, I appreciate you saying that. I really want to survive." He chuckled a bit, he was half joking - but a fact of life was that Andy was a Sun Hunter (or would be) and they apparently had one hell of a high turnover due to being the front lines. "Not sure how you guys deal with the early morning thing. I don't know if I'll ever be cool with that." Bricks went up around the Princess, adding to wood and previous brick, the blond even pushed away some of the rubble to make it a bit neater. And then he was done and ready for the monsters to be released! Gale probably was not the best person to talk to about girl problems anyway, considering his experience extended to one failed, one-sided confession (that he didn't even remember, due to a removal of certain memories), and his longtime, live-in girlfriend who was also his first girlfriend (and he hoped his last and much more after). But still, he did rather hope that Andy was someone he could be comfortable around. He did like him quite a bit already, and seeing as how most of Gale's friends at present were limited - along with a few that were no longer around - he tried not to appear too eager.
A little smile flickered across his face. "You're already doing well, that brick wall in the middle looks great," he said, nodding at Andy's structure. "As for the early morning thing, well...you get used to it after you get a text from your boss at three in the morning demanding you meet him at two-thirty in the morning."
He shook his head in exasperation as the first wave of shadowlings came rushing through.

Gale didn't have to be good for relationship advice because Andy knew that people had strengths and weaknesses. Besides, if he really needed to talk to someone about his crush on Peyton...he could always hit up Jordan - that's what big brothers were for, right? Gale could just be awesome as he was, Andy would take his friendship. He watched shadows swarming, trying to tear down their defenses and get to the princess, with an amused look on his face. "I've never been a morning person, I might even sleep through such a ridiculous text." Mention on time-turners made him chuckle and smack the leg of his jeans. "If you do, can I order one up?" Once again, path 1 was a problem, but the rest held nicely; the creatures took one look at the fortifications on path 2 and seemed to say '******** it'. Gale's side was doing okay - not great but that was probably due to his trying to help Andy learn (he felt a bit bad about that). "I guess it makes sense, shadows would want to be up at the darkest parts of the night but...man. There is not enough coffee and Redbull in the world." Though he was already starting to get better at rolling his carcass out of bed earlier. A coffee IV drip helped. Shadows dissipated and Andy looked critically over their handiwork, "So now what?" His princess looked ragged, but not really worse than Gale's did...had he done well? Maybe? Was there more? Were they done? The comment made him smile a little.
"There's nothing wrong with sleeping through one of Caelius' texts...unless you're willing to face the consequences of not answering him," said Gale, head tilted to the side as he gave Andy a little rueful look. "Sometimes it doesn't matter as much, but hopefully once you get the hang of things, you'll be just fine. I think you will be, it becomes second nature after a while."
The smile grew, just a fraction, slightly hesitant like he couldn't quite remember how to manage it.
"Of course, you'll be first on my list," said Gale. A pause, and then -
"Coffee does help, though."
His eyes returned to the princess, the shadowlings screeching and scrambling along the fortifications. Some of the paths held out quite nicely, as predicted, but others, such as Gale's first one, collapsed entirely. Fortunately, however by the end of it, the princess was ragged and twisted and a little worse for the wear, but not completely destroyed.
He turned to Andy.
"Well done," he said honestly, a real smile crossing Gale's face. "You've passed the course, so...congratulations."

Andy thought about this, but then shook his head while shoving his hands deep into his jean pockets. "Nah, I can't be doing that. Peyton and Jordy would kick my a** or shove me back in a pod. Caelius might not scare me, but t they do." Gale's hesitant-ish smile told Andy that this guy might have been a really nice person, but he wasn't used to other people. Which was sad, because he really did seem like a great guy. "Excellent. I anxiously await being able to do twice as much sleeping." Both princesses were mauled, but they seemed about equal. "Yours looks a little less mauled. I think I got lucky." Wait? Really? Was this all? Andrew's eyes went wide as Gale smiled and congratulated him. "Seriously? I passed?" Hands coming out of pockets to do some sort of foot-ball endzone victory dance that ended with the rangy blond jumping up with a fist in the air. " YEEEEEEES!""SUCK IT, SHADOWS!" After a few moments he had the good grace to turn a bit pink under his tan and look sheepish. "Um...yeah, so...er...congrats too. Your princess almost has her hat!"
