"Depends on who you get," Stormy replied lightly. "There's a lot of different kinds out there, and not just monsters. I and the other people here can walk you through it, though. Right now we're headed to a place called The Cove; it's where we keep all the weapons stored in a tablet form. When you get near the one that's yours, it'll start to light up and talk to you."
Amazing how normal it all sounded out loud to her now. She hesitated and then gave Cassie a small pat on the arm meant to reassure. "It does get easier," she told her again. (Wishing, hoping it can be true.)

Cassie hoped and prayed she got a nice weapon, someone who could help ease her into things much like Stormy did. A weaponized version of Stormy. That would be a very pleasant experience, Cassie thought. "This sounds very Harry Potter-esque, you know." She mused, following Stormy to the Cove. "Are you sure this isn't some sort of... fanfiction?"
She said it'd get easier. "Promise it does." She softly demanded, hands starting to tremble yet again. She remembered signing up for this now, hearing the person in the white coat go on about saving the world, telling her no more little girls would have to pretend they were Wonderwoman every night. She didn't have a choice, the life she lived was already a half-life.
But this was real. Real monsters, real military, real weapons. They weren't playing pretend anymore. "Promise me."

She smiled gently, because it was automatic to around people. Because she had done it all her life, because the more you faked it, the more you could convince your body it was real. And Stormy's smiles, regardless of their nature, always felt real due to years of practice.
"Some parts are going to be scary," she told Cassie honestly. "Really scary. But you get used to it. It gets better. Everything does with practice, I promise. We support each other through it."

And that would have to do. Cassie nodded quickly, reassured by Stormy's smile. It would be okay, she repeated in her mind, things would get easier. The girl gulped and pulled Stormy into a loose hug before turning on her heel and taking the first few steps into the Cove. Be there for me when I fall.
