Orah fingered the wrappers she held, listening to them crinkle.

"I think you're probably right... Normal here isn't the kind of normal anyone should want." Her lips curved a bit and she lifted a shoulder to drop it again. That kind of normal saw a city you needed travel papers to enter or leave and mandatory energy 'donation' that no one spoke out against, because it was easier to pretend nothing was wrong. "I just miss not being... like this, sometimes. I'll figure it out, I suppose. I decided once that I wasn't going to give up the fight, I just have to remember why again."

That had been such a long time ago... back when she was still a basic like Sandrine. Jack's words, their rhythm hinting she was quoting something, were words she had believed in, once. Still believed in them, when she wasn't scared and doubting her resolve. I just have to remember... never to stop fighting. Things might not get better, but they for sure won't if I give up.

Finally, her smile warmed into something more real and truly happy.

"I'm glad to do it, Jack. Really. Any time you need it, just call me. Let me go get that water for you, and the cough awaits."
