Sebastien could only smile. So she was going to just take his word for it? Of course he hadn't been lying, but for her to just accept the truth because he offered it as such was kind of flattering. Surely it was an unbelievable story at best and she may never fully accept it, but the trust was still there. His smile fell slightly then and he nodded.

"I can only imagine," he replied. Naevius had been running from her guards back before she'd risen so far in rank, so how much she feel now? Of course she was in more danger now just for her title alone, he was glad there were people watching out for her in the end, but it couldn't feel very nice to go from one bodyguard to... how many of the men and women following her had been guards? Five? Six? Then all of the servants and the loyal handmaidens whom she had already marked as a plural. He couldn't say he disagreed with her father's promotion either; he'd always liked the man and respected him, it was just unfortunate that the side effects traveled to others. At least they didn't linger on that subject long and his smile easily returned.

"Of course I am," he nodded, "I consider it a promotion. It'll be nice, I think. We can work here, or we could go out and actually work in the wilderness, you know? Like partners." Friends, really. Something more in his own heart, but he couldn't let Naevius know.

Naevius nodded. She had really hoped that that was how he would take it and understand. He never really seemed ungrateful when her father asked him to guard her so likely it could just be him being the dutiful employee. But that wasn't like Seb. Sure he was a good employee but Nae liked to think they had gotten passed all that 'I work for your father' stuff. "I'd really like that. On the days I have to stay here to attend to the business side of things we can train here and on days I'm free we can most definitely go out and work in the wilderness. Like partners." The thought of them being partners exhilarated her. They would be getting to spend so much time together.

Yet it had to make her wonder if it would be a good thing. She had to think about it seriously, she could already tell she had feelings for him past friendship but how could she tell him? How could that work? Naevius reached out to him and lightly placed her hand on his. "Sebastien..." She started softly, the light blush back on her face. "I'm really glad that those giant spiders didn't eat you. I'd miss you too much." While the first part was playful, the second was serious as she really did mean it.

Sebastien nodded. It seemed like a good plan to him. So Naevius was taking over then, she wasn't just living here for the heck of it. She would be his boss as much as she was his student and it was a little disappointing how much that would complicate things. Before it had been easy. They'd chat, they'd laugh, they'd move on like friends. Now business had arrived to sully it. He didn't let the disappointment show on his face, though. Naevius was clearly happy to be back and he was happy too. There was no need to worry now about the future.

Then things got odd, a little intimate in the strangest of ways. She put her hand on his and it took everything in him to resist the urge to cover it with his own. He had missed her so, even a little touch was thrilling. When she spoke he was confused. He laughed at first, but caught some seriousness in her gaze and arched a brow. Uh. Well. That was all in all sort of a strange thing to say, wasn't it? Where was she coming from?

"I'm glad too...?" Another, more awkward little laugh followed.

Naevius looked down at her lap embarassed. Perhaps it was good that he didn't completely understand. How would that conversation go anyway? Probably not well...His arched eyebrow brought her back to the present as she withdrew her hand. "Well you know, because then I wouldn't have anybody to tell me fake stories that they say are true." She said with her own little laugh.

Nae stood then, finding her thoughts of him made her restless so she went to the window to hopefully let the blush fade. "How has it been since you've been back? Other than the whole giant spider thing which I'm sure nothing tops." A somewhat flirtatious look over her shoulder at him said she was actually interested in how things have been, how HE had been.

Just like that Naevius was gone, her hand and her body up and off toward the window. He found he longed for her to return. Sebastien leaned forward on his knees and grinned.

"Ask them, I tell you! Ask anyone who was there, I won't talk to anyone until you do," he promised. When she turned back over her shoulder, he couldn't help but smirk and raise a brow slightly. She was acting... different. He sort of liked it, but it sort of scared him all the same. What came first, their friendship or their business relationship?

"It's been fine. There was a little confusion with where the company was going; lots of rumors, but no riots." He paused then and stood approaching Naevius but stopping a foot behind her and slightly to her right. "I've been thinking of you quite a lot." He wasn't sure why he said it, but it wasn't a lie. It felt like something she wanted to hear.

Nae had been about to ask what sort of rumors there had been as she wanted to squash any kind of negative rumors. She heard him approach her but stopped short before she held her breath with his next words. Turning quickly over her right shoulder, one step was all it took before her arms were latched around Sebastien's torso. She wasn't exactly sure why but those eight words caused all kinds of thoughts to return. The slight watering of her eyes was hidden from his taller gaze from the hair falling over her face.

Why was it so easy to just be herself with him. No, she knew the answer to that. And it was so much more than the fact that he was one of the few people she was ever truly alone with. "I wish my father hadn't of sent you away...I..." Naevius wondered what he must think of her, he probably just wanted her to quit suffocating him with her bear hug. So she stepped back and looked to the side for a few moments before lifting her gaze to him. "Sebastien, I..." What was she going to say? What COULD she say? She liked to think they had passed the whole noble 'I'll tell you what you want to hear and keep the truth and hardship on someone else's shoulders'. But she had been gone for awhile, could she tell him her feelings and not have to worry about him just going along with it because he felt he had to? Naevius honestly wasn't sure. No, she was sure he wouldn't but she couldn't help but doubt herself.

His breath caught. Naevius had moved so fast and come so close in just a moment. Her arms around him first felt awkward. They had shared hugs, yes, but this seemed different. After all, this was the new princess of Oba. The stiffness in his form relaxed i a blink, however. Sure, princess, but princess or not she was still Naevius. A title did not make a being, and so his arms folded back around her waist. He smiled faintly, that same off-center expression that could mean so much, but his eyes were soft. She was so warm. He wanted so badly to pull her closer and just keep her there a while.

Then she spoke. He wished he had been allowed to stay too. It had tortured him to think he may never see his friend again. Their social status had been enough of an obstacle in the first place, and then he imagined that the princess was to stay trussed up in the palace which would be just as painful for her as for him. She was here, though. That was all that mattered. They were together again in whatever form.

She pushed away and was gone. He let her go, but his expression remained the same. He closed the space between them, not so far that she could not look him in the eye, but to make up for the distance she had fled. It felt like they needed to be close just now.

"What?" he asked, voice soft, "You can tell me."

Closeness. Warmth. Longing. Fear. Hesitation. Second thoughts. Doubt. Honesty. Bravery. Trust. Decision.

Naevius knew what she needed to do but felt such mixed emotions. Yet, at the same time it seemed so easy for her to decide what to do. It was probably his soft voice that coaxed the truth of her feelings out of her. That and he had closed the distance she had made by pulling away. That had to mean something right? "Sebastien I...I think about you all the time and it makes me blush." As if right on cue the blush started lightly. "The thing is...its hard being friends and being around you. But not because I don't want to be your friend. Quite the opposite really...I...I feel closer to you than I have anyone else for a very long time." A deep breath centered herself. "I really like you Seb, and I'd like to see where that goes. But please...don't say anything if you don't feel the same. I'd rather be friends if it's something that isn't reciprocated."

Nae took another deep breath, her face was warm and the blush had now spread to the tips of her ears. "I don't want you to feel like you have to. I feel like we moved passed that awhile ago but I just want you to know its okay if you don't feel the same." She exhaled deeply, as if she had held her breath throughout her little speech. "I really like you Sebastien, and I'd like to see where that goes." She repeated, her hands fidgeted but she met his gaze. Well, there went everything.

He made her blush? Sebastien couldn't help but chuckle when she said that, but it wasn't an unkind sound. He could see it even now. Her cheeks were deepening in color. He made no comment, however. It was time for him to listen and to listen carefully. Her next sentence worried him. It was hard to be friends? Was this the final goodbye? Would he only be seeing her on a professional basis; for training, for bossing, and nothing more? His brow furrowed at the thought and she would undoubtedly see it. The relief he felt when she turned back on her own words brought froth another chuckle, just a little two-beat hum in his chest. She didn't want to hear 'no,' did she? Well, it didn't matter either way, that wasn't what she was going to get.

As Naevius paused and took her breath, Sebastien reached forward and took her hands in his. He was ready to speak but she continued, repeating herself.

No, words wouldn't do justice to this at all. He wasn't a man of especially precise language anyway and he didn't want to sully the emotional spread that the princess had offered him. She had made herself vulnerable like she had so many times before, but this was different. This was pulling apart her chest and baring her heart and so, rather than reassure her he felt the same, he brought his right hand up to touch her cheek as he leaned in for a kiss. It was soft and would be rather brief if not reciprocated but undoubtedly affectionate beyond the friendly kisses on the cheek Naevius had gotten before.

Fear rose up in her throat at first as he wasn't saying anything. So he didn't reciprocate her feelings then. It was the only reason why he wouldn't say anything. She suddenly felt so stupid. But then he took her hands. That was good right. It was so tempting to just look away since she was so embarrassed. Instead, Naevius met his gaze, his face was soft which made her feel a little more embarrassed. His hand came up and cupped her cheek and she found herself unable to breath. Sebastien's lips were softer than she had anticipated. Her eyes closed and she leaned into the kiss, her free hand rested on his chest while her other gripped his hand tighter. What could be better than this bliss, this heaven. Oh Hatald, I want to marry this boy. She sent up a small prayer to the Goddess of marriage, perhaps she would hear her prayer and make it possible. Naevius wanted to say something to Sebastien but there was no way she was pulling away first.

Sebastien had kissed girls. It sort of came with the fleeting connections he'd been making his entire life. This was different, though. This was special. He actually felt something rising in his chest, a warmth and an excitement spreading from the tough of her hand. He deepened the kiss and pulled Naevius closer with his free arm. Ah, he was so glad that she had reciprocated. He had thought about her so long and realized his feelings too late. What a storybook romance, the new princess and a farm boy. except this time it was real, and this time it was him. This was all terribly forbidden by social standards, but he didn't care. Love was love.

He broke the kiss to breathe, but added just a tiny peck after as if he hadn't gotten enough. He smoothed her hair down affectionately and smiled. His eyes were soft and slightly hooded.

"I've fallen for you, Naevius. I have no doubt."

The entire kiss and even the small peck after made her feel like she wanted to melt. Play-writes could never have written such a perfect moment as that. Especially for the words that came after. They were so simple yet held so much that Naevius just kept replaying it over and over in her head. How long had he felt like this? For as long as she had? Longer? Shorter? She sighed deeply and leaned into him. "I'm glad. There's a problem with that though..." She paused for dramatic effect and tried to keep her face straight. "I've fallen too so there's nobody to help us back up." Nae smiled sheepishly, her eyebrows raised slightly as she looked at him under her eyelashes. Her stomach felt all fluttery and her heart was racing. This is what it felt like to have your feelings reciprocated. This was love.

A problem, yes. Of course there was. He was just an employee and a trainer, not some noble or prince. He was well aware of the problems and chose to not bother with them. Love was inescapable, as it should be. They'd have to find a way. He opened his mouth to speak, though, and Naevius continued. The smile that had fled so quickly suddenly returned and he gave the princess a playful shove and just as quickly pulled her back with his other hand.

He was a bit cautious now, curious if anyone was watching, but he wrapped his arms around Naevius again and gave her a longer, lingering kiss. They'd have to be careful. This all had to be kept secret somehow. If anyone foudn out it could well mean the end, but they had this right now, and it was perfect.

"I'm glad to be stuck on the ground with someone so beautiful, then."

Her face became red quite quickly as only Sebastien could do. She sighed as he kissed her again and melted into him. This was as it was supposed to be, Nae believed. It was impossible to believe that she would be any happier at any other point in her life. Granted, she could think of maybe one or two but it was way too soon to even begin thinking of things such as that.

Naevius leaned into him even more, content with knowing Varinia was watching the door and making sure they had their space. She was very good for doing that and likely if they were to keep this relationship they would need the help from someone like Vari. Should she talk about this to Seb? "You're such a charmer." A slight roll of her eyes were affectionate as she shook her head slightly. "Oh Seb, what are we going to do with each other?" She meant it somewhat jokingly but was also serious. She didn't really want to ruin the moment but felt like it was something they should figure out rather soon.

Sebastien shook his head and shrugged slightly. He knew that Naevius wasn't entirely joking in her question. It was taboo for the two of them to be lovers, and he was mere years from homelessness; there was no way he would become a noble.

"We should stay out of the public eye, I think," he said. Rumors would fly, and there'd be questions for the princess and for her father as well. He didn't want to cause either of them any trouble. While the king had been his boss, he had been an admirable man, and given Seb a place to live on the compound. The king deserved no further trouble. "What would your father think?" That was really what mattered. They'd have to give up some day or else live the rest of their lives with a terrible secret if the king wouldn't approve. Naevius would be forced to find a husband...

No. No, that was thinking too far ahead. He was confident that they would make it work somehow. "We will figure it out. I won't give you up again."
