Kris slipped around the door and into the room after Zeke gave her the go ahead, taking in the current scene. Dim, but things still visible. Not all together unfitting for meeting a bat. She saw the frei's ears perk at her arrival and watched as the flying fox floated to one side of Ronan to get a better view.
The frei didn't approach quite yet, fingers still laced, though she very much wanted to. Instead she settled for a question.
"You are...?"
"Kris." The college student smiled. "You can come over if you want."
She did so, but instead of wrapping her in a hug or patting her head the frei grabbed her arm, gentling pulling her over until Kris was standing in a line with Ronan and Maili. The flying fox then backed up, and pointed at each of them in turn.
"Ronan."
A nod. "Yes."
"Maili."
The preteen gave a "Mmhm" noise.
"Kris."
Another smile. "You got it."
The frei clapped her hands, grinning - and then, abruptly, her face crumpled in confusion. Hesitantly, the finger came back to point at her own chest.
"Me...?"
The crumpling expression had sent a brief moment of panic through Ronan, but now he understood. She still needed a name.
"Would you like me to give you a name?"
The frei wipped around, staring for a few moments before giving one hard nod. "Yes. Please."
He thought back his short list of names - and stopped. Looking at her now in this dark room, suddenly none of them seemed to fit. They weren't... her.
"Maybe a Batman name?" A whisper from Kris. She jumped slightly as Maili kicked her shin.
"No."
"But-"
"No."
Ronan could tell from Kris's grin as she and Maili went back and forth that the suggestion had been made in jest, but as amusing as it was to him it was probably confusing for the poor frei.
And yet, it seemed it might have given him what he needed. Not an exact match, but a reminder of a name he had seen posted at work those weeks ago.
"Amity."
The two girls stopped, looking over to see what the frei's reaction would be, silence stretching for a few moments.
"That..." The confusion stopped, replaced by a smile. "Yes."
"I am Amity."

"I think that's a fine name."
If the gaggle of four looked over, they would find Zeke leaning against the door frame with one foot crossed over the other, just finishing writing the Bat Frei's new name down in her file. He grinned ear to pierced ear as he looked over each of them in turn before resting his gaze on Amity. With a soft snap the manila folder with her paperwork was closed and he gave her a friendly wave, pen still tucked beneath two of his fingers.
"Welcome to the world, Amity! I'm Zeke, and I promise I'm the last one coming in here today." He pushed off the door frame and righted himself, taking his first full steps into the room. He did not go any farther toward her than that, lest he be the one to cause any feelings of overwhelming or claustrophobia in the newborn. She could choose to approach the brightly colored man or not.
"I think I would call this a happy not-quite-a-re-union!" Zeke spoke to the Frei's family, winking at Ronan in particular. His focus on the older man was to see if he could gauge what the selkie thought of his new ward. Bouncing slightly on his heels, Zeke was of the mind that 'so far, so good' was in play.

For a wild second Amity wondered if this was another person who she'd be going home with - but no. Soon it became apparent by his words and position that he was separate from the other three, and Ronan's look over at this Zeke only cemented this thought. It was a friendly look, but it had a certain amount distance that wasn't there when he looked at her or the other two girls. It was a realization that was both odd and comforting. The bit about a "not-quite-a-re-union," like Maili's earlier statement of "finally," simply flew right over her head. In the end, she settled for a friendly wave to the man - which, considering her enthusiasm, was her whole arm waving in the air for a few moments.
"Hi!"
Ronan had to fight down a laugh at this new display, and he saw Kris was doing the same. Her bubbliness was certainly going to bring something new to the house and already he found himself taken by her personality.
"Anything else you need Zeke?"

The Raevan's currently boundless energy was enough to make the corners of Zeke's eyes crinkle. He returned the wave with his own over-zealousness and with the two displays combined he couldn't help but laugh. It took him a moment to focus on Ronan even after the selkie asked his question and a moment longer to rein in his chuckling.
"Yes indeed! I need your signature one more time and then any questions you might have for me!"
He brandished the folder as if he hadn't just tucked it beneath his arm for safekeeping before laying it out on the desk to his right. He flipped it open to the right page and angled it so the light from the door streamed onto it.
"Just read this page here, sign where the lines are, and date at the bottom!" He gave the line that required his own printed name and signature the appropriate marks then set the pen down for Ronan to take at his leisure. From there Zeke turned on the trio of girls, grinning so hard his face was starting to hurt.
"So what do you think?" It was posed not just to Kris or Maili but to Amity as well. The vet looked over each girl in turn, ending on the Bat Frei. She was proving to be bubbly and lively, which in Zeke's opinion was more than great to see. "Are you ready to go home with Ronan, Kris, and Maili?"

Ronan picked up the folder and pen, quickly going over the information one more time before signing at the bottom of the page. It was done. She was coming home with them.
It felt surreal.
"I think I'm okay with questions for now," Ronan said as he handed back the pen and paper. "I'll email you if anything comes up, if that sounds good?"
By the time Zeke got around to Amity again she was holding the hem of Kris' shirt with her fingertips, other hand itching as she fought the urge to do something similar with Maili. She'd gotten her basic lesson on personal space bubbles, but it seemed like something she might have to remind herself of from time to time.
She gave Zeke a nod.
"Yes. Very." She was more than ready.

Zeke turned to look at the paperwork when Ronan spoke and, upon finding it signed and dated as required, shut it and tucked it away again. He slipped the pen into his pocket and patted the selkie on the back, nodding in agreement.
"Sounds great! Anytime you need me, fire away!"
When Amity gave her answer, the vet gestured to the door. The new family could exit first as that was only polite.
"Then I think we're all set here! I'll show you out, but after you guys first!"

The four individuals filed out the room one by one, letting Zeke guide them to the exit and giving their goodbyes once they arrived. They went outside - and Ronan had to keep himself from running into Amity, who had stopped without warning. He leaned to the side to get a good look at her face.
"Amity?"
The frei was transfixed, lips slightly parted as she started upwards at the blue sky, a scattering of clouds strewn across it's length. That was right. This was the first time she was seeing the outside world.
"Big," she said quietly, before swallowing and letting a smile split her face. "Beautiful."
He was almost surprised to hear such a large word already coming from the frei... but it fit. Reaching down he gently grabbed her hand, watching as Kris and Maili did the same with her other hand.
"Let's get you home," he said, face gaining a grin of his own.
"We can't wait to show you the rest of it."
