"Of course you can," she replied with a nod, "I just wouldn't suggest trying to go between settlements on your own. If you don't know the terrain it can kind of sneak up on you." Really it just sent you back the way it came, but maybe Thorn was the type to try climbing over and then get stuck on the way back down, she couldn't be sure yet.
"Sure! I mean, I can try. I've never had to teach anyone before." Mama might offer to help if she didn't hate Thorn on principle. Then the embarrassment overcame her at her own thought processes and she shook her head. She forced a smile back onto her face and shook her head.
"No, no, it's nothing, it's nothing." Instead, there would be a sudden subject change. "I don't think we should tell my mother right off that we're a c--" She paused and looked up to Thorn with a furrowed brow. "Are we a couple?" She wouldn't be offended if he said 'no,' she just had no idea how these things worked.

"No I think I will travel with you if I have to go over mountain ranges, I'm not at all used to hills or mountains." It was a glorious day full of possibility. Freedom, company, soon to be food when they stopped, what could be better? Nothing? He thought not from the look on her face but her diverging tactic worked. He paused in the road. "That is a good question since we haven't discussed it. "Ime would you care to be a couple with me?" He held both her hands. "I think we have been but discussion would make it official." He smiled a part of him still sweating waiting for her answer despite the cool wind wreathing around them and ruffling his hair. He would be most honored if she said yes.

"Of course, and we'll take some time just to explore, I promise." Thorn seemed to want to get the full experience of Sauti, and she had lived there all her life. Only Mama knew the terrain better than her, if she could say so herself!
Then Thorn's mannerisms changed. He seemed somehow nervous, as if Ime might tell him 'no' and continue to abuse his role as protector. She just laughed slightly and grinned,
"Of course I would!" she replied happily. They had been interested before, even dating, but to call yourself a couple meant something more. There would be no more young men in her heart, and Thorn would hopefully not use his boyish charms to woo any other girls. It was nice and safe, and so nice and warm.
"So, in that case, I think we shouldn't tell my mother right off that we're a couple. Friends, of course. She should love you before we tell her." And she knew that Mama would love him in a few days' time, how could she not? "I'm not ashamed, but you're the first boy I've ever dated, ever kissed." Ever held hands with, even. "I bet she'd be just a little upset if we told her right off, just because I'm her only daughter, but once she likes you she won't have any reason to complain." They would be respectful as well, of course, so really she wasn't worried.

He glowed from the inside out. "I can understand that, she doesn't know about me yet even so it would be too much of a shock I think. My parents know I'm going with you so at least they know of you." He rubbed his thumb over the top of one of her hands. Nope there wouldn't be anyone but this wonderful woman for him. She was like a shining gemstone, beautiful and precious. A twig snapped nearby. "Ime," Thorn said, all his hair trying to stand on end. "What was that?" Was it too much to ask that it was a relatively harmless poscuta? No, that would be too easy.

"That's good. Maybe we can go back to Tale some time soon and I can meet them?" Really, traveling between Jauhar and Sauti was the easiest path, although she'd love to see Zena and Oba some day, and especially Matori. She had never been to a beach!
Then there was a sound apparently unheralded by either of them. It didn't match her footsteps or Thorn's, but that was hardly reason to panic right off. There were creatures all over Tale heavy enough to break a twig. Of course it was never smart to just assume it was nothing and move on.
"Hello?" she asked, not shouting but at least projecting as far away as the snap had seemed. "Is someone there?" If nobody answered, even a groan for help, it was either a beast or... something much worse. She had been mugged once before, she didn't want it to happen again. Her whole life was in these bags.

"I think they would really like to meet you." Thorn peered into the bush, slowly bringing his dagger out. His green eyes scanning the foliage for rustlings or an imminent warning of attack. He soon realized that he had been staring at it the whole time and the thought scared him even more, until he realized the dark brown thing with large yellow eyes was an aldabuck. "Its okay its just a..." The beast charged him. "Ack!" (Continued in Beast Battle!)
