"Not me," Chel said, leaning back against the rock. "I'm takin' Chris and I'm gone. We're not meant for this kind of gig." Saving the world, keeping peace, cleaning up. Maybe that was why she hadn't been selected.
He was making a face like he wanted to say something. "Spit it out. What d'you wanna know?"

"Just because you are not a knight, it doesn't mean s**t won't be in your hands after the fact. Most likely, you will have to deal with the aftermath... one way or another."
Shun soon blinked, then shook his head.
"The only business it would be of mine is if it interferes with your resolve in any way."

She raised an eyebrow. "It look like I got a lot of knightly resolve to interfere with?"
You couldn't interfere with what didn't exist.

"That in itself is a problem," Shun said lowly, "It does not have to be 'knightly', but if you have no will to deal with any of this, then I cannot count on you when s**t gets tough. You mentioned that you will run after it's all said and done. How will I know you won't do that in the middle of battle? Or even before it happens?"
Resolve was not just set in duty.
"If not to deal with the darkness, then what are you determined to do at any cost? Is it to ensure that you come out on top? To survive? To get revenge for... something?"

"You don't," she summarized neatly. "I have no obligations to this place. Ain't owe y'all jack s**t."
That was the truth, but so was the following. "I just wanna find a place where assholes won't keep askin' me that s**t." She whistled something low and let Shun take that for her answer. "But listen- I desert shitty situations, not people. You'll find me out there. Won't leave 'til after."
A toothy grin and Chel said, "Cross my heart and hope to die, ser Shun."

Shun looked her over carefully. His expression did not betray whether or not he believed her.
"Very well..."
Taking in a deep breath, he pushed himself up to his feet.
"I should go gather up the black knights," he uttered, then walked off.

"What, like I'm not one that need gatherin'?" she asked, but she was standing up too. "I'll follow y'over. Might as well meet the other shitheads."
