Quiet and still. Lorelei tried being as quiet and still as a rock on the sea floor. Being quiet and still would make her air last longer, so she would be able to stay under water for longer. Also, being quiet and still would make the fish come.
Her eyes were keen underwater, and she saw the school of fish start to drift by. They were a size that she knew that Mamma Isenath would call "barely a mouthful," but with her smaller size, they would make decent meals. She was getting hungry, too.
Most of her body was buried in the soft sand. She was proud of herself for learning how to nestle herself in and scatter the grains over her brightly colored hide. Her bone tail was even easier to camouflage. She'd simply wrapped it all up in seaweed until it looked like a natural part of the sea floor. The fish seemed curious about that, swimming around her bone tail and nibbling at the seaweed in a way that would have tickled her if she'd had more sensation in her tail.
She wanted to grab one, but knew it was not the time. She had to stay quiet and still just a little longer... and now!
A fish swam in front of her nose and she seized the option. She pushed off from the seafloor with her hooves and lunged forward through the water. Her sharp little teeth snapped shut around the fish and the rest of the school went darting away into the shadows. But she'd caught a fish!
Delighted, she surfaced and puffed out stale air. "I gobth un!" she shouted past a wriggling fish to Isenath, who waited on the shore.

"Good!" called Isenath. "Bring it over here!" She felt a swell of pride for her little daughter. Lorelei's tail really hindered her swimming. Isenath had been worried about how she would hunt, but they really seemed to have settled on a good technique for her. There were many types of fish that lay hidden until the moment to strike, and apparently Lorelei could employ their methods.

Lorelei was as proud as she could be. She swamp jauntily back to her mother, head held high above the surf. She pranced her way out of the water and went right over to Isenath's side.
"Lookth! Uh got itsh!" she mumbled while the fish still twitched.
