"You menace!" She gave a little squeak as the shield hit, forcing her back a few steps with a small wince before she was jerking her staff back up between them defensively. "You'll never get away with this!"

With his shield up, Dawson left little in the way of exploitable openings, but it didn't cover everything. She side stepped quickly, swinging the staff around at the man's ankles.

"Hah!" The staff smarted--she happened to hit the little whatsit bone in his ankle--but he couldn't lose face now! Evil villains totally had to be more badass than the heroes! That's what set up such great conflicts after all. "I'll get away with it and more if that's what you call an attack!"

He pushed her back forcefully and howled his most maniacal cackle yet. "For I, evil genius Beardo the Great and Powerful, cannot be stopped! I will plunge the city into its hairiest mess yet, and you won't be able to lift a finger to stop me!"

She made a face at him, feigning indignation, and failing miserably as her lips tugged up in the corners. Well, at least until the shield smacked into her and sent her stumbling backwards. Not an especially hard hit, but enough to throw her balance when she wasn't expecting it.

An attempt was made to whack at him as she fell, but the end of her staff whizzed past harmlessly. "You just wait. I'mma get a second wind here, n' you'll be sorry."
