"We cannot,"Gawain stressed, hitting Horace firmly on the head with his staff, "dissolve into probabilities. If you leave it to chance, something will always go awry. How do you think the Great War was concieved? Because we thought we had a truce with the sidhe and they lied. Ask any Great Knight of the cleansing and the purge. The past events are repeating and being ignorant to them will not save us."

[Ruth enters]
The blonde could only shake her head in disappointment in her fellow men. Or... were they really her fellow men? From behind her blonde bangs, Ruth's eyes narrowed at those who'd helped push the gate towards the mirror. Gawain mentioned there were sidhe pretending to be one of them but how could one tell for certain?
She rushed over to the trio of Great Knights still fighting, refrained from wincing at the series of blows being delivered. She placed a hand on Horace's shoulde- (no too tall) forear-(still too tall) wrist! Yes, she could reach that.
"Stay your ground for now, please," she wasn't pleading with Horace, simply stating a formal request for the sake of it.
To GAWAIN Ruth addressed the question, "You spoke of disguised sidhe. You spoke of suspicion. But these are not enough. Tell us how to identify these wretches. Do they bleed differently? Are their tongues of a different color? Do they dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?"

"For a man of science, you speak in probabilities and shifting words. Which of you are trustworthy, after all? Can you prove that you are not sidhe?" His next hit was purely reflex - a reaction to being bonked undignifiedly on the noggin. But he pulled back as Ruth asked, shaking off her wrist. Something about the girl just rubbed him the wrong way. He swept her a mock bow and moved back to wait near Oliver.
"You know, Oliver," he swayed, grabbing onto the other man's shoulder for balance. "-if he did, it would answer a lot of questions." Horace grinned wearily at the man. For now, Horace was content to wait.

Jack returned from his talk with Hollandaise less than satisfied. The more they all argued, the less got done. Who knew what the monsters were doing beyond this cavern now that they were all here?
There were good questions being asked. He gave a small nod to Ruth and Horace for asking particular questions he wouldn't mind learning himself, though Gawain's words by far were very attention-grabbing (and alarming). He chose to brace his bow and let off a few arrows to keep some of the knights off his leader. Gawain couldn't exactly explain himself with so many people throwing themselves at him.
"Then tell us about these events yourself, Sir Gawain," he said. "What Great War? What purge, what cleansing?"

He was sure that this was the wisest course of action. So sure that the knights needed defending against those who sought to tear them down. He went to the nearest Knight first, Gawain, one who he was not as of yet personally familiar with but, as with all, he had no quarrel with.
And that was what what he thought was important here. Quelling the fighting before it could spread like wildfire and burn them all.
"Stop!" He hollered at all of those who were attacking, or who might have been thinking to. Any knight that came near would have Tommy's crossbow leveled at them, a warning to stay back as he neared the green knight. "Where is the sense in all of this?" He asked, because really, not a thing he'd heard so far made sense to him.
A quick glance around was given to the others that stood nearby, also seeming to be there to hold on to some semblance of peace against the discord. His eyes lingered on one in particular, a tall man with blonde hair who's own words, from what he'd heard as he rushed over, seemed to at least come at this problem from a much more intelligent and logical angle.
"Hey." He smiled, quickly, before focusing once more on the task at hand.

Gawain didn't need his help. He was keenly aware that Great Knights could take care of themselves, but there was always a chance that something could go wrong, the man could be mobbed, and they would lose the only one around here who made any sense. They shouldn't fight each other, and they couldn't trust a sidhe-created artifact to react in their favor whether it was used or broken.
He couldn't say what they should be doing instead or anything, but that was why they shouldn't be killing knights. They knew... heroic courses of action and things.
It took Brenley a long time to maneuver through the room, and he got to Gawain just in time to see the blond girl he'd fought beside earlier rattle off a series of questions he honestly wouldn't have thought of in a million years. He knew books, and he was better at healing now than he could have guessed he would have ever been, but identifying sidhe? What had the green knight done to rouse suspicion anyway?
At a loss for words, especially when a pair of apprentices put themselves in front of Gawain (he should have been doing that, on second thought, right here was just fine), Bren stayed back, axes drawn, but otherwise looking a lot like a dumbfounded fish.

Sacha had no clue what he was doing.
Really. Not one.
Some code of conduct or something had him thinking that maybe he should do SOMETHING, show that he was worthy of a knight and that he could fight. But really, fighting wasn't his thing. And while he could fight if he came to it, he was lost enough that he didn't even know where to begin.
So when he caught sight of someone just holding back and watching, he knew he'd found a smart individual. That was the way to do it. Get close enough that it looked like you were ready, have your weapon out, and just watch for where you were needed. He moved toward the other apprentice, getting his crossbow out in the process, and stood next to him.
"Hey," he offered casually, setting the edge of his bow on the ground and bracing it with his foot while he attempted to notch the string and actually load the damn thing. "You got anything to eat? I'm starving."
Almost there. Almost drawn far enough back to notch. Closer. Closer. He was straining enough at the weapon that he really didn't have time too look at the other guy to see what his reaction was.

Something to eat? Here? Now?
Actually, yes. He did.
Hanging one of his axes over his forearm by its blunt underside, Bren reached under his tabard and brought out a mysterious foodstuff wrapped in a mostly clean rag. He held it out to the apprentice, letting the fabric fall away to reveal a couple of strips of chicken jerky left over from his last knight's quest. He smiled as well as he was able, and his hand hardly shook at all. That was something.
"You can have them if you want."
He made no promise as to whether the meat was still edible.

"'The Great War," Gawain began, and then paused. He looked confused for a moment, and then repeated himself again. "The Great War. The one where-" he trailed off. "The one- where was someone who represented the sidhe - a queen. And she- she-" he struggled with the words, as if it was very difficult to speak, or remember.
"And then the Great King he-"
And then for a moment clarity struck as he dropped his staff, staring at the knights in pure horror. It was as if for that single moment a spell had been broken, and he realized what he was doing. He took a step back. "What- why can't I- "
- With a slow trepidation, he turned around, and saw it. The mirror. His reflection stared back, the same in every single respect except for one minor difference. He was shackled and chained from head to toe.
And then as fast as the reflection disappeared, it was replaced by the crystalline surface of the mirror and within the gate. Gawain stared back at the knights with glazed eyes. "No, it was a dream. It was all a dream." He picked up his staff and struck it against the ground, causing the earth to shake around him and break into cobwebs of green light. "We will fix things."

He was so close to having the crossbow all the way pulled back into position when the rag entered his field of vision, falling away to reveal food.
Without a care for his weapon he released the drawing mechanism, ignoring the twang, and licked his lips as he reached for the strips. "You're a saint," he swore as he deftly snagged the meat from the much taller man.
Of course, he didn't take it all. Sacha was a little s**t, but he had manners. There was a small piece that must have fallen away from a piece, no bigger than an inch or two in length, and that he left on the cloth. As for the rest, one piece was already shoved into his mouth, the rest clutched in his hand. "I-- Sa--ha by the way," he mumbled around the mouthful, not minding in the least how much it worked his jaws to try to eat it.
Then the Great Knight was talking, and it was odd how he kept breaking off. Sacha just watched, slightly amused until he was staggering back from the way the earth shook under his feet.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED Shayne slowly gotten up off the floor as he looked the other knight in her eyes. "I-I don't want to fight you. So move!" Shayne told the girl. However, his hands and knees were shacking in fear. Shayne looked away from her a bit as he was trying to put his thought together. "How could you protect something like that?" Shayne asked the girl.

Brenley glanced from the twanging crossbow to his chewing companion to the bit of jerky the young man had left behind. This one seemed rather fearless, or maybe he was just so enamored with food that nothing else mattered while he was enjoying it, not even—
The ax was shaken from its resting place as Bren struggled to keep his footing in the wake of Gawain's brief fit. He'd lost the jerky too, but when he finally felt steady enough to retrieve his weapon, he grabbed the dirty piece of chicken as well. He had a feeling... Saha?... wouldn't appreciate him wasting it.
Sadly, he'd only had half an ear on the green knight during his lapse, but the look that remained in the man's eyes concerned him. He didn't take his own gaze off of the Great Knight when he spoke again.
"I'm, um, Brenley. I'm glad you liked it."
He wondered if there was a place he might hide until the battle was over. Probably not.

Lurks entered, a collection of rags and naught more save for the glittering jewels adorning his shoulders.
They did not understand. They did not understand the war or the fighting or the bays for blood between the Kings that had been so united under one cause until it collapsed. They were not very smart, and very unobservant to boot.
Their King-- Mordred-- had said their brother had gone mad. But Lurks was not smart enough to know why that was bad. To them, it seemed as natural a statement as "the sky is blue" -- and so they felt that they must stop those that would stop Morgan.
It was only just, to do their King this favor.
But their Scythe missed with a most pitiful swing.

A high cowl or scarf always covers the lower portion of their face, meaning they're a little-bit muffled most of the time. The scythe collided, this time, and down came her hood from the flurry, revealing a head of messy brown hair with patches missing, scarred in places from a forgotten plague.
She did not weep, but her eyes were full of unshed tears. She was as young as she looked, and both confused and lashing out.
