"It's no trouble," Jelanii said as he turned to follow her. "And that sounds perfect. I admit, being on the road the food I've eaten has mostly be dried and hard. It'll be nice to have something that actually has flavor instead of tasting like tree bark." He chuckled. "From the way you spoke, it sounded like you had come from Oba yourself." He paused, hesitant to ask his next question, but knowing if he did it might help him understand Cerith just a little more. "Did you use to be a slave as well?"He inwardly cringed a little at asking such a question, but hoped he hadn't offended Kani.

The game everyone liked to play. Was she a slave or not? It was such a common question she felt like she should state it when she introduced herself. Hi, I'm Kani the ex-slave. She bet that would go over really well. Jelanii hadn't been malicious about it luckily, there were some Matori she had encountered that were quite bad. It had just been a simply question coming from him. "Yes, my whole family was enslaved. Me, my parents, and my little brother. We were sold off to an Oban noble and for the most part we were house servants while my father worked the noble's land and such."

He cringed. "I'm sorry that happened to your family." There was more he wanted to ask, like what was it like to be a slave and just what sort of things might his sister have had to endure. it was on the tip of his tongue to ask, but what if it had been worst than even his imagination could supply. He didn't want to force Kani to have to relive that. "I guess you must be going through something similar to my sister. Having been forced to be a slave and now free again. I can't imagine..." He tried off, growing quiet. He should be able to. It should have been him. "Anyway, I'm sorry for bringing up something so painful."

"It's okay, really. I probably got off relatively easily compared to most. At least most of my family made it out," she laughed softly, shaking her head at the thought. "I really have killed the mood, huh? Sorry about that." She hesitantly patted him on his shoulder, trying to reassure him that she was okay in some way. She'd been dealing with what happened to her and her family for a while now. She wasn't completely okay, but she didn't think she ever would be. She'd just have to deal with what had happened and try her best to protect her family. "But enough about all that. How about that dinner like we had planned, hm?"Vy My hero! heart Thank you so much for this!

OpticPeach *flexes* Always happy to be of service. *laughs* That didn't reassure him. It never even occurred to him that Cerith might have been killed during her time as a slave. It made him realize just how fortunate he had been to meet Kani and that she had met Cerith. He turned to Kani and shook his head. "No, you haven't killed the mood. This is the life we live in. It does no good to hide from that reality."He smiled. "But yes, let's go to dinner. I think a good meal is definitely needed."

"Excellent," she smiled, gently grabbing his hand and tugging him along. "I'm sure we can find something wonderful to eat, and we can talk more. Though to be honest this is sort of amusing. Cerith came to my home to eat and talk more. I guess it's just because it's sort of similar is why I find it funny," she smiled, continuing to wander down the street until she spotted a place that looked promising. It looked to be nicer than the other places around, she just hoped that it wasn't too expensive. Her father allowed her to manage all of their money, but she would hate to use too much of it and have to ration their food in any way.

To his surprise, he found himself being pulled along and he couldn't help a small flush at her touch, but her next words distracted him. He grinned at that. "Similar? I suppose it's our twinness kicking in." Somehow that thought made him feel warmth in his chest. The thought of him and Cerith being able to share similarities after all this time gave him hope. He knew the similarities were surface at best, but it still made him smile. He eyed the tavern and hurried forward, opening the door for her. As he did, he peered inside, taking in the surroundings. Despite the troubled the town had village the tavern was very nice, a show of how the town was recovering now that it was free.

"It's nice to see this place doing so well. I had heard it was hit the hardest, so improvement is good," she commented, happily sliding into a small both towards the back. She hated having people behind her, so any chance for her to avoid it was wonderful. The tavern had Matori scattering about serving food and drink, and there wasn't an Oban in sight. Just what she liked. It looked like they had finally been pushed completely out of Matori and now they could be free of them for good. "Once you find your sister I'd love to get together again and enjoy lunch or something. That is, if you'd like. I'm sure you have other priorities as well," she muttered, fidgeting slightly. She never got to interact with others her age, so being able to talk to both Jelanii and Cerith was nice. It was a chance for her to get out and not be stuck in her home for once.
