Step 2

Damien already missed Clyde, and what his companionship meant on this quest. it was so much ore treacherous and slower on foot, and the realization was too little too late. The remaining apple was already half eaten when he reached the forest and began to crawl and climb over felled tree trunks and shrubs.

All the while on the lookout for spiders, that probably would not show themselves with the only spoil being a single piece of fruit, already browning from the heat.

It sucked moving in armor and moving in the heat. He missed Clyde a lot.

Stage 3

The sun and the trail quickly became an enemy. the apple reduced to the fine seeded core and Damien was ready to tap out, there was no more fight left in him for the day, just the bitter aftertaste of defeat and frustration, he walked back to Camelot's side door.

Where Clyde was waiting for him. Damien stood there perturbed by the sight, and realizing the error of his ways. "You came back thinking we'd regroup here." he mentioned, hearing the horse whinny at the statement.

It was he who misunderstood and thought he was abandoned. A lesson well learned by the end of the day.

The horse was reloaded, with a large portion of the previous days rations still usable, waste not want not. Damien didnt mind the little bit of bruising on the apples and just wanted to make so headway on the journey. The gate was opened to let him out into the fields that were barren and like a wasteland where he was sure life once teemed and harvest were bountiful and people gathered under the harvest moon in joyous celebration.

Joy was hard pressed to find in these dark days, fleeting moments where a smile was genuine were scare but equally as treasured.

he could only hope that it would all return when this was all over.

The mountain had snakes, something Damien did not expect nor accounted for when the beasts began to slip out from the cervices and move closer to him and his legs.

Least it wasn't poisonous, but painful yes.

It was another sunrise in the castle of Camelot and Clyde was ready to go, harness scrubbed and the pack ready and full of fruits for the trek. "Ok Clyde." Damien began, brushing the pony's mane. "No bees this time ok?" he tried to bargain before mounting and giving a whistle to signal the brown beauty to get going as it trot out of the stable into fresh air. He wasn't sure what exactly it was doing before he began these journeys out to the hill and the treasure that he feel short of for the past few days. Sure it was a dangerous trek, this much he was aware of in spades. But that was the life of a knight, and their mount and something that was commonplace between the knights of that caliber.

It was a growing experience and he knew there was still lots of growing to do.

Stage 1

Staying on the shorter road as of days before did nothing in making the journey easier. The brunette couldn't shake off the bees that were dead set on thwarting the progress and setting the horse on edge. The little insects was not worth the trouble, potentially falling to his death from a brush with the chasm was. Finding the landmark was not the problem as it found him easily, a thick tree with foliage closer to that of a curtain gave way to open air and a long fall. It was there that a toll of food must be paid. It was what the chasm wanted, required.

How many apples?

Looking down the cliff and its jagged rocks and its formation at the bottom. It looked so far down, Damien had to wonder what could be found at the bottom, and if it was worth the risk instead of going to the locked chambers on the hill summit. Bodies was something that was fully expected. That and all the apples he "threw" so to say to the cliff gods. But maybe there were jewels, money or armor or a weapon that the horsemen feared. All were tempting ideas for the precarious climb down, but to get back up, it was not worth the effort for limited gains, if there were any to gain. At least he knew there was something at the summit.

It was time to move on, hopefully with the blessing he required for the rest of the journey.

Stage 2

The progress was slow and steady but Damien did not want to spend more time in the forest. That and the bees and the horribleness he was sure that was just waiting to ruin the journey again. He wanted to move quick and get out. And every instinct to get out was rewarded with the return of the jumping spiders that tried to make their home in the horses mane and was knocked aside, with time to soothe the horse before the bucking occurred and left him on the wet cold ground in prime falling spider land. Apples was used as the perfect way to keep the pony at ease., while he nursed a roll that was snuck in with the fruit, maybe if they were lucky in the future, apple trees would sprout on the trail they were blazing, clearly due to their travels.

It was nice to imagine life being made from the little things they were doing to make the land free from the horsemens deathly grip.

Stage 3

The mountain range just did not like visitors. It was bad enough that Damien found out from first hand experience how its winding trail was deadly and littered with the dead. Arrow traps ready to sink into the wayward knights heart, snakes that waited for prey to immobilize and now axes hanging to cut and cleave the unobservant in half or in pieces. His shoulder found out how hones the blades were, not even sure how long they were left their in preparation be it minutes or weeks.

The flesh would would be fine with salve, it was better to make haste before something else slowed them down.

Why there was an old man there claiming wizard powers and offering sustenance was beyond him. "Really, you couldn't just offer me a way of teleporting straight here instead?"

He had enough apples to bean at the wizard's head, but the real treasure was in sight at the top, a little chest that was opened and the gauntlets were brought to light. It was worth all the pain.

Right off the peak of the last successful run, the call to get moving and head back out there for more. "You know the path and came back with items on more than one occasion, i leave the task in your hands." the guild master wiped his hands from the journey and gave him a pat on the shoulder, with an affectionate rub on Clyde's snout before loading up the horses harness with things other than fruit. Fresh bread and hardened cheese for the trip that the brunette did not expect.

It was the good stuff other than the ale and to be honest, he did not fancy the idea to ride and drink when he’s had a track record at one of the stops along the way. It was a bountiful harvest with the well-wishing of the guild master at his back that had him leaving the stables in high spirits. It was a task that he was well versed in. the sky that he once though was bright blue became grey with the realization of the true color of the sky, the torch packed along with the rations was excellent for the occasion.

There were too many good perks at risk to mess this up. So e rode harder to get to the summit.

Stage 1

Snapping his heels at the sides of Clyde’s slowed the horse down, the trail by the chasm was too windy to take quickly and fall s down to the bottom where who knew what lay forgotten and broken? The torch crackled and popped in his hand, the other on the reins keeping the mount at a steady pace. Where he expected to see open air and leagues of depth before him, was another path of clouds of insects and a curse that passed by his lips. There was a wrong path made this time and it led through the bees the bees that his pony rather disliked.

It was a hard pressed gallop through them, quick and brief and the parcel of honey was thrown like a burning stone from his pack to the ground, hoping that it would work to keep the pesky things away and off of them, and the gallop was for the ones that refused to turn away.

It was charging like a bat out of hell, the choice was infinitely better than having to deal with walking the entire way.
