Paul nodded, relieved that all was explained and not questioned further; he didn't want to have to say 'actually she just hates your guts'. Did Jirachi have guts? Perhaps this wasn't quite the time to ask. "Ahh, got it," Aulus grinned at Franklin, "well you've got that right. Any young she's having are being grown in the lab, not in her." Then, to Tam; "Dips! Great, thanks." As his partner headed off to locate said Aulus set about getting the game ready to go. Movement out of the corner of his eye prompted him to turn his head, and what he saw elicited a chuckle. "Rose, what are you doing?" A handstand on Tam's bed. "Well, yes, obv-" .... Wait. "...What?" Aulus stared at the inverted Sawk, who stared back. Aulus continued to stare. Had he just...? "Err.... Tam?"

<< Are being grown in the lab?>> The Jirachi repeated with a little frown on her face... She didn't remember seeing any offspring belonging to Tortie, though she supposed she hadn't seen -everything- in the labs, of course. She wasn't even allowed in a few places, after all... Then, there was the conversation between Aulus and Rose.
Franklin, of course, could talk to humans, and, perhaps, had not had it explained just how unusual that was for pokémon. Or how it was because of what she was... So she didn't seem to find it odd at all when Aulus and his fighting type exchanged some words. She did, however, decide to help when it seemed like Aulus hadn't quite heard what Rose had said, maybe. Or didn't understand. Either way, she was going to help! <> She even repeated the way the fighting type had said it.
Palu, however, had noticed, and was fixing Rose with a displeased stare, like he'd done something improper... Of course, to her, he had. It was fine that Franklin got to -talk- to humans, she was a psychic type and couldn't help it, and besides, this was her room too, but Rose was a visitor! Talking to humans! He didn't even live in the room! Palu /did/ live in the room and /couldn't/ talk to humans! This was very improper!
"Hmm?" Tambrey replied, as she was moving across the room, three different dip jars sharing space in a bowl. She, of course, hadn't heard anything but pokémon speech from the Sawk... and had come to accept that Aulus could sometimes understand his pokémon well enough to converse with them in a way anyway when what they were doing was obvious.

"Uh, yeah." Aulus looked from Rose to Franklin and then back again. "I heard." He'd heard it had started happening to the people who'd been on the sub of course, and he'd certainly hoped that the headache he'd developed and then got over would result in the same, but it actually happening was still completely surreal.
When Tam reappeared Aulus made an expressive gesture towards Rose as a grin started to creep over his face. "So, guess who can apparently understand fighting types?"
Rose flipped off the bed, landed lightly and stepped around in front of Aulus. Smiling broadly the fighting type lent over to give his trainer a hug.
"Ha!" Aulus put his arm around the Sawk's shoulders and gave him a squeeze. "Well hello to you too! Wow!"
Paul chirped and lent forward to boop Rose on the cheek with one of his forelegs. He was a bit jealous to be honest but he was still happy that Aulus was able to understand more of them than just Asgard now.

Well of course Franklin could understand fighting types, she could understand any pok- OH! No, he meant him! /Aulus/ could understand fighting types!
Her eyes widened, and she beamed, as she watched trainer and pokemon hug, but then, suddenly, she was scrambling over to grab a notebook. It was full of scribbles already, but she found a clean page, short-handed what looked like a date and some untidily written words, and raced back over after locating a pen.
"You can?!," and then the scrambling, followed by "What were the first words you heard? Um, was there any kind of feeling, beyond emotions, at hearing them? Oh! What are you feeling now? What, um, emotions? You too, Rose," She grinned and pointed a pen at the pokémon "all the same questions..."
<> Franklin pointed out <> She hadn't really thought about /why/ she always had to translate before...

"A handstand!" Aulus replied with a laugh, because that was ridiculous and this was amazing. "Feelings? No. Well. I didn't realise at first really because it was a rhetorical question but then I said 'yes obviously' or something and then 'what' and he said 'what what?'" Aulus paused to take a breath. "But no, it was just like hearing anyone else speak, but...." He frowned. "Hey, say something else Rose?"
Rose replied with a cheeky grin, breaking away from Aulus to turn a backflip.
Aulus kept frowning. "It's uh... I don't know how to describe it. It's not English but I understand perfectly. Emotions? Excited, shocked - uh - wow, I don't know! I mean I know it's happened to other people but... well, I wasn't sure if it would to me, right?"
Rose supplied,
"He said he didn't feel anything different either," Aulus translated with a stupid grin, "but he says he's excited too, that this is great." Turning then to Franklin Aulus nodded. "Right. Usually pokemon can understand people but not the other way around, with the exception of a few psychic legendaries; Jirachi like yourself, Lugia, and Mewtwo."

"A handstand?" Oh, right, that's not what Aulus was feeling... Good... So those were the words. Tambrey frantically scribbled everything down while Aulus talked, and then explained what Rose had said. "It's, um, not like when Franklin speaks? Not a," How to put this without offending the little psychic type "poke in the brain?" There probably wasn't a way.
<> Franklin protested indignantly but clearly, as though that was the only thing stopping her from trying such a thing.
Tambrey ignored the Jirachi's remark. "That sounds like a pretty understandable reaction... Surprising there's no, um, other feeling... But I think that's been the standard too, from what I know... You hadn't heard anything from him before now?"
<> Franklin muttered in response to Aulus, but didn't elaborate.

Didn't like Mewtwo?... Well that sounded like something to investigate in the future but not just now. "No," Aulus shook his head, "it's like hearing a voice the normal way. Err. Yeah, I don't know how to describe it. I'm not even sure if I'm hearing the whole 'Saw saw!-'
"Okay, sorry! Err, but yeah I think... I'm hearing that? But I understand it? So I don't hear it, like English is all just monkey noises - sorry, ape - but we understand them so...?" Aulus shook his head and scrubbed his fingers through his hair. "Weird! Oh! You should ask somebody bilingual what they make of it? But yeah this is the first I've heard... I think that's the first thing he actually said since I let him out today? But you were out yesterday right Rose?"
"Yes, for the karate class, and I couldn't understand you then...." Aulus trailed off and gave his own cheek a brief sharp pinch. "Ow! Yep, awake. Okay. Wow!"

<> Franklin agreed with the fighting type.
Tambrey nodded, and scribbled some more notes down. "Hm. Yes... But a lot of early development goes into learning the language we're first exposed to. We actually do -learn- a language rather than inherently knowing one, it's just easier when we're young... It would be a good idea, though, yes, to study bilingual individuals who experience this..." She tapped her pen on her pad. "So, it certainly occurred within the last 24 hours? But you're, um, not sure when? How long ago did your headache pass?"

"Yeah, must be," Aulus agreed, "and actually that'd be the same timeframe for my headache fading. I was starting to feel a bit better yesterday, when I woke up today it had gone completely." He frowned. "Y'don't think... well I suppose something must have happened to my brain right? New pathways all," he waggled his fingers, "joined up. Neurons. And that would have been a better more expressive gesture with two hands by the way."
Rose chuckled as he sat down on the bed next to Aulus.
"Why you?" Aulus looked at Rose, frowned, and then his brows rose in understanding. "Right! Good point. Why fighting type?"

"Mmhm, almost definitely something inside your brain changed, but I don't think it's anything that's a cause for alarm. There have been no reports of serious medical issues, as far as I know... Besides, the headache clearing up, to me, um, suggests whatever change was taking place has occurred and finished... But, well, I'm not medically trained... " She smiled "It works fine as a gesture. Yes. I imagine a lot of neurons have fired new pathways in a very short amount of time... Hm. Accelerated learning. Perhaps it's simply that that causes the headache..." She paused. "Mine is gone too. But I don't understand any of these except Franklin... Who I understand as normal anyway..."
Franklin nodded importantly.
"Perhaps... What were you thinking of recently? Anything, um, particularly related to Rose's typing? Or, Rose, have you, um, had any frustrations or things that you wanted to tell Aulus recently?" Like, in the last 24 hours...

"Hu." Aulus frowned. "Can you work out a list of what types you've heard speak since it went away? We can test the ones you haven't heard yet. And I guess? Ifff there are new pathways then more blood supply than usual would be needed right? Pressure or... something?" Aulus shrugged, he was interested in science but he wasn't a scientist of any kind let alone a neuroscientist.
"I don't think I was thinking anything out of the ordinary," Aulus continued with a shake of his head as he looked down at Rose. Rose was looking back up at him earnestly. "Usual stuff?" he asked.
Rose agreed with a nod.
Aulus laughed briefly and translated.

"Hm. Yes. I have a mental list, but I should write them down... Ah. Speculation, but decent, um, speculation. Yes. I'd imagine that would make sense... We should probably ask someone who specialises in neuroscience but that, um, makes sense to me..."
She smirked at Aulus' translation, but couldn't help but frown afterward and tap her pen nervously against her bottom lip... That didn't clear up any kind of psychological reasoning...
"Hrm. Maybe proximity or... something?"

"Maybe?" Aulus scratched his jaw thoughtfully. "What's the uh... critical period though? Right as the headache ends? When the exposure to the whatever-it-is kicks in? Throughout? I had a few pokemon out last night but not Rose.... There's got to be some logic behind this, right? Maybe we should run a survey or something? I'd like to know why it's happened as it has."
Food for thought though; if he had known what decided the type you understood from the start, been able to 'choose' as it were, what would he have done?
Aulus decided that he was rather glad he hadn't had a choice in the matter, it would have been impossible.

"Hrm." In her mind she was partially distracted; flying type, fire type, normal type, grass type... All these things it wasn't, she was sure... "That's a good question. And, um, ordinarily I'd definitely agree that there should be some logic... I'm more inclined this time to say I -hope- there's some logic, that we, um, understand, though..." Pokémon simply worked -weird- a lot of the time. "A survey is probably good... We have a lot more pokémon in the lab that I can try talking to as well as my own partners, and, um, yours.... So I should be able to puzzle out my own typing too, I hope..."

"Why don't we do that now?" Aulus suggested eagerly, getting to his feet and starting towards the bathroom door. "We can scare ourselves with video games any time, and we can have the snacks in celebration when we figure out your type, right?"
