Hvergelmir wasn't sure what to say to this. It was hard to face someone with such an obstinately positive outlook and try to get them to be more world-wise just through conversation. She felt guilty just for trying -- and a little selfishly sad that she'd tarnished her reputation in the young page's eyes.

"No one can tell you what's right for you," she acquiesced. "You have to be the kind of knight you can live with. But . . . fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Be cautious in what battles you engage in, and don't take on a fight you literally can't win. That's only asking to be killed or corrupted."

She raised both eyebrows: hopeful, imploring. "You'll have more power in time. Right now, you may be stronger than you've ever been, but a page stands very little chance against a Captain or a General. They'll be eager to fight you."
