Maybe she had not been watching where she was going? That would explain why she couldn't find the oddly marked boulder now. The mist moved about her and seemed to be ever determined to keep her locked within this mystical world...until a moment of surprise caught her. The mist parted and with it she saw a clearing that seemed to now surround and include her. Her breath caught within her throat as she spotted the tiny folk, watched as they moved along the small stones that formed a mandala before fluttering off. Before she had time to truly admire them, they were gone..leaving her alone once more.

No longer wishing to be alone, she bore right as she swore she caught a glimpse of an arch? The lack of sound was deafening about her, her own heartbeat seeming to be the only thing heard around. Careful of every hoof print placed, she moved steadily and with purpose to move through the maze of the graveyard. It wasn't until she saw the large marble tree that she realized she had found the exit, her ears perking as she felt a sense of relief wash over her and her muscles now relaxed in contentment. Another examination of the strange colored tree and she would see something very faint near it's roots. Footprints? They looked fresh too? Clearly she was not alone...and that idea was neither welcoming nor terrifying.

Name: Paradigm
Faction: Nightmare
Small IC description of character: Paradigm's blue eyes were never warm like a clear summer's day. A coldness seemed to lie in them, beautiful yet remote and aloof. The dark mare was not overly friendly towards others. She seemed as if she held herself outside the company of those around her, even being surrounded by chatter and festivities.
Oracle Scribe: Brosephiine's Oracle Scribe

Somehow Paradigm found herself drawn to some peace and quiet. Well, perhaps not peace, not for her. The mists swirled around her again, obscuring her vision briefly until she found herself on the edge of the gravesite. Paradigm eyed the stones before her, some rough-hewn and seemingly sloppy and others polished and precise. Tendrils of mist wound their way between the stones. The sight made Paradigm pause for a moment, unsure of whether she truly wanted to brave this place. She had heard rumors, whispers of those long past who still watched the living from this place.

But something stirred the mare to movement. She could not place what exactly it was that made her want to step forward into the mists that now swirled up over her legs and plumed above her hindquarters. It was a strange sensation, more than a desire. It was a need. Her hooves fell quietly, but still sounded as if bells announced her every step. It was an eerie feeling and Paradigm wondered if perhaps she was not truly alone.

A few moments pass and Paradigm is sure she can hear herself breathing, barely audible beneath the sound of her hooves. She is suddenly aware of the mist cutting off her retreat, throwing her into an island of solitude amongst the stones. The mare stops dead in her tracks, quivering with what could be fear. She would never admit it, nor did she truly know the feeling as fear. Self-preservation would have been what she called that feeling. Slowly, she looks down and spots a stone with hastily painted red runes. The paint drops from the runes themselves and in the mist it seems a foreboding sight. Paradigm shivers, turning her gaze to the small stone with no markings at all. She definitely did not want to stop at this spot for much longer. But where to go?

Paradigm chose as quickly as she was able and strode off into the mist again. It swirled around her
and obscured her vision to the point of irritation. She was having difficulty seeing where it was she
was going and subsequently stumbled over a small stone in her path. She caught herself from letting
out a yelp of fear, but sweat glistened on her neck. If anyone were to see it, she would claim it was
the damp from the mist. There was no mistaking the wide eyed stare from her blue eyes though.

She seemed to walk for ages, but suddenly the mist seemed to thin and Paradigm found herself
back where she had begun on the edge of the gravesite. She snorted in exasperation, the feeling of
fear seeping away now that she was no longer surrounded by stones and mist. She wasn't about to
let some mist get the best of her anyway. With that in mind, she charged back in.

It didn't take her long to come to a stop again. She felt she hadn't gone very far into the gravesite,
so perhaps now would be a better time to get a feel for her surroundings. Her eyes swept the stones
and landed on the exact same red runed stone that she'd come across on her first venture into the
mists. A very startled Paradigm stood stock still and stared for a long moment at the stone.

The sense of foreboding was not so strong this time around and Paradigm quickly moved onward.
The mist seemed to open up before her as she walked, her hooves didn't seem to make quite so much
sound this time. And soon enough Paradigm came upon a small clearing. A few tiny folk were settled there amidst small, colorful stones arranged in a lovely pattern. They gazed at Paradigm silently before
fluttering off and leaving her alone.

She gazed around her with curiosity now. This was not visible from the edge of the gravesite. Her ears
flicked forward and back as she listened to the silence around her, straining for any sort of noise she
could pick up, but there was nothing. Before her lay thick mists, while to the right lay graceful stone
arches. To the left was unnerving silence. Nothing gave away any hint of a direction she should take.

The mare dreaded going forward, but she also dreaded going back. She did not want to admit defeat.
Determined to make it through the mists and stones, Paradigm trudged onward. Dark shapes loomed
before her. The mists seemed to get thicker, as if attempting to black her path altogether, until very
suddenly they parted and Paradigm found herself standing before great stone pillars that seemed to
          stand guard.

She hesitated a moment, then kept walking. Between the stones rose a massive marble tree and as
Paradigm broke through the stone circle, she felt relief wash over her. Somehow she knew she made it
through. She sighed softly and took a moment to revel in the fact that she was free of that eerie place.
When she opened her eyes, she noticed sets of tracks on the ground around the tree. Curiously she
          stepped forward to investigate them.

Nokomis
User Image
NAME: Nokomis // FACTION: Citizen
Small IC description of character: The mare was responsive to the turn of events rumbling around her. Her reaction was with a calm curiosity that simply seemed to sparkle in her orange-red orbs, a delightful look. Nokomis, riding the wave of curiosity was quick to approach, without question and admire the magic. This was an event she was sure she would forget.
Oracle Scribe: Greenie EA's Oracle Scribe

Curiosity. Was it her inability to not be curious that had lead her so astray to find such a place? The mare's mind was alive with questions that yearned to be answered, but the silence internally and externally seemed to know no end. With a defeated sigh Nokomis approached the edge of the Graveyard and began to glance around with nervous eyes. "Hello?" She whispered quietly and nearly giggled.. whether the giggles would have been from nerves or not she wouldn't find out.

All of a sudden she was stepping forward.. "Why do I feel so compelled to be here?" Her voice just simply didn't seem to be her own and yet she knew she was speaking. Than there were the echoes of her voice that seemed to change with each fading moment. A shiver tingled her spine as she began to investigate the entrance a little more and with a greater ease than she expected her steps carried her deeper within!

"Oh my." A small gasp escaped her lips and her wings pressed to her sides providing something akin to a security blanket. Surrounding her were a multitude of stones, all varying in sizes, but two stood out. One was a boulder with something hastily written in a red ink and another that simply had nothing on it. She admired them briefly in wonder, but than another mental push guided her forward.

She kept moving.. moving and ...

"The entrance? It feels as though I had been walking for a couple moons!" The exaggeration wasn't necessary, of course, but she was grumbly nonetheless and faced the misty graveyard to give this another attempt.

With an ease that near frightened her, Nokomis had begun moving forward seemingly leaving the boulder, stone and gate behind her. Upon taking a confirming glance at where she had come from she witnessed a darkened mist that almost threatened to engulf her if she didn't begin moving once again.

Accepting the fact that she was now in this for the long haul was a hard fact to face, but she wasn't about to be defeated by something so simple and so with that persistence came reward. Soon she was entering a beautiful clearing, something she had not expected to find in the middle of a desolate place. Though it wasn't the clearing itself that was beautiful, had it not been for the well placed, colorful stones the clearing would have just been dark.

Taking a few moments to truly comprehend what she was witnessing she nearly missed the Tiny Folk that had been gathered there. Suddenly she felt out of place, were they attending a burial? Was this magical place where they were burying their own dead? The questions had taken to much time to form and her chance to ask them was lost. One moment they had been seated about and looking directly at her, the next they were gone.

Once the sound of their wings faded Nokomis was left with a deadly silence that allowed her eyes to wander and giving her mind a chance to play tricks.

"Is that the exit?"

Hope tickled her insides, but had she truly found freedom?

The short answer to her question was.. no.

The mists had tricked her yet again! They rolled about her, misguided her and simply lead her astray! Her head felt clouded and dizzy, next thing she knew she was right back at the stone arches.

"Oh my." A soft gasp escaped her lips and she simply stared at the quiet, spiral scene before her.

Nokomis had tried again, her determination was burning sensation all over and her heart longed to be free.

"What choice have I made for myself!?"

Dramatic. She knew this and yet who was there to hear her plea or to judge callously. She had a feeling there was no way out, no light at the end of this 'tunnel' and her second attempt at freeing herself was proof of just that.

This attempt was a failure, much like the last. Moments after deciding to press forward she was greeted with a sad sight of the stone arches. The look on her face could have been predicted. Loss. What more could she do, but try again?

Dread had no better a place than on her face as she saw the boulder come into view. "Please tell me this is a joke.." The whispered words fell to the mist and seemed to swirl around her like the feeling of knowing it was no joke. This was her reality, her doom.

Though she felt no hope and only a glimpse of the happiness she was used to feeling she felt compelled to continue trying to see what was so important to hide behind such a 'maze'.

Try, try again. A motto she had begun to mutter in a chant like way. Had anyone approached the graveyard and made it in deep enough to see her would very likely be frightened.

Through the darkness came a chilling sound that echoed around her to silent music hoOoOoOoOot.. truly if that wasn't the sound of the owl from earlier she had no idea what it could be. The haunting sound continued to echo and with no decision making at all she ran, full tilt, in the opposite direction.

Unfortunately the mare couldn't determine what the 'opposite' direction was and ended up right where she had begun.. at the boulder. There was no time to try and feel anything, none of it was worth it at this point.

So she marched on.

FREEDOM.. of the smallest kind. The boulders were behind her, heck even the haunting sound of 'hooting' was fading. Even with this small victory her sanity was returning. Finally drawing a deep breath she centered herself as she entered the clearing with the stones in a spiral arrangement.

"Here we go." She says softly. Strength had returned to nearly all of her. Nokomis' voice was still weak and had only found words because she felt they were needed, gave her some form of leg to stand on. With a moments silence she began her walk once more, hope was all she could hold onto.

The decision to move forward had weighed on Nokomis. The road that she had been travelling felt well travelled, though she had only attempted a few times at escaping through the exit. If she wasn't going to make it out this time than she wasn't sure she wanted to try again at all. Alas it seemed lady luck had finally begun to fancy the poor mare. For the weight the maze had put on her chest was lifted and her legs felt lighter.

"Is this finally it." She spoke aloud to the maze itself. Had the owl been there than she likely would have gone into a full blown conversation. This was such a wonderful thing to behold. Meer steps away from where she stood was a possible exit. Of course in the back of her mind she was aware that just because she had been fooled into thinking this was an exit it could be anything but exactly that as well.

Without further hesitation she stepped free from the shadows to spy something remarkable!

Awestruck was the best way to describe the 'frozen in motion' mare. Her eyes lay glued upon the Marble Tree that was planted between two large stone pillars who seemed to be standing guard. While staring at the wonderful plant before her she realized.. "I am finally relaxed, at peace." Nokomis wore a large smile as she approached the base of the tree.

Once she reached the base her smile faded. Strange markings were scrawled across the ground.

"Had there been someone just ahead of me?"

The words seemed to fade before she could even think on the matter. At least she was free from the Gravesite.
