Class Quest - Shaman The one thing that was convenient about being part water back in the day was that she didn't really have to worry about what she wanted to do with her life. She couldn't do anything she wanted, and her options were limited. She could've been a merchant, or she could be a treasure hunter. She showed talent with magic, like her mother, but since she wasn't pure she wouldn't be able to find a good teacher. Her mother had taught her the basics, but her mother was a Scholar, and defensive magic wasn't it for her. She wanted to be able to attack just as much as she wanted to be able to defend. Plus it wasn't like her mother was super amazing, she wouldn't say that but they knew it to be true. Her mother didn't pay the bills by being a scholar, she also did other jobs when she needed to. Eleina wanted to be something and just that. She didn't want to have to work many jobs, she wanted to do one thing that made her happy for the rest of her life. That was why it was so hard for her to decide on what path she wanted to do. She was scared to make a commitment, make a commitment and then later on want to change it. She was scared to pick a path and then years later decide that it wasn't the path for her. Or she could follow a path only to find out that she really wasn't as good at it as she thought she was.
"Momma, I'm going out for a walk. I'll be back later." she before walking out the door. She thought best when she was out and about. Being in her home was like being in a box, and she couldn't think. Grabbing a towel she headed out, knowing exactly where she wanted to go. As she left the house she walked towards the beaches. It wasn't too far from her house, just an hour or two away. She liked to practice what magic she could muster there, she felt more powerful, but there was also things often lost on the beach. It was a place she could combine her two favorite things, so naturally it was her happy place.
As she walked she greeted those she knew, and kept away from those that she didn't. She was slowly realizing that she didn't have to be out there, she didn't have to have all eyes on her. She was finding a happy medium between being out there and being in the shadows. She still liked attention, like people to look at her, but she no longer needed it. Or at least she was working towards not needing it.
As she neared the beach she found a secluded part where no one was around and took off her clothing, folding them neatly and placing them in the sand. She made her way into the water, loving how the cold water felt against her skin. As she swam she opened her eyes occasionally under the water, searching for things the could have been lost at sea. She found nothing, and after a hour or two headed back towards the shore. She realized that as a treasure hunter that would be her life, always hoping to find something but never being sure that she would. It was sad, and the thought wasn't one she liked.
She said at the edge of the ocean, so that the water lapped against her stomach. With her fingers she played with the top of the water, creating little creatures in it. They were cute, and took a good amount of her concentration to keep alive. She had heard of a magic class that would allow her to do both defense as well as offense, and that had worked with the world around the user. If she remembered correctly it was called a Shaman, and Eleina was sure that she would be good at it. She had always been attune with the world around her. She could use magic to help defend the weak and those that were unable to protect themselves, but she could also use it to attack the bad guys. Running from the market like she did with the Oban girl that one time would be a thing of the past. If she was a shaman she would have been able to stand her ground and not acted like a scared child.
With a smile she realized that she liked that idea, that she liked the idea of being powerful. Being a treasure hunter wouldn't allow that, it wouldn't allow her to show the words what she could do. It wouldn't let her help people. Sure she could get rich as a treasure hunter but as a Shaman she could help people. Plus she felt like there was more of a demand for a Shaman then a treasure hunter. She was sure that the coast were riddled with the ladder.
Eleina let the water creatures die at her finger tips before standing and going to get dry. She dressed quickly, looking out for passersbyers the whole time. Once dressed she headed home, eager to tell her mother about her decision. Now that she knew what she wanted to do she just had to find someone that could teach her, which she hoped wouldn't be all that hard. She knew that there were still some predigest with her kind, but maybe her father could find someone to teach her. She didn't care if she was taught by an Oban or not, in fact part of her didn't want to be. Her cousin was learning magic the Oban way, and she wanted to prove she could do it her way. Or maybe she could get two teachers, or one of each race. She was pretty sure that other then the tall bug looking women all earthlings had magic so that wouldn't be impossible. Well time would tell, for now she just needed to get home to her mother.

Solo One Maybe she shouldn't leave yet. Sure she had nothing more to learn in Oban, but she was starting to fit in around there. She was making friends with purebloods and it seemed as if things were looking up. She hadn't even heard from her pureblooded cousin Baako in a while. Baako was always a bother for her, never letting her be fine. She had complained to her mother once, and even though her mother went and talked to her cousins father things only got worse. Once Baako even got a group of her girl friends to out Eleina for being a hybrid. It was back before being a hybrid was acceptable so Eleina could have been really hurt. Thankfully she wasn't, but Baako was always very careful after that.
She was heartbroken when she found out that Baako also wanted to be a shaman. She was pretty sure that she was only doing it to spite Eleina. She always did things to spite Eleina. She got a familiar when Eleina expressed wanting one, and then rubbed it in her face every time she got. From what Eleina heard Baako didn't even play with the animal anymore. She was rich, a lesser noble, and pureblooded. Everything that Eleina would never be. So when she decided to become a shaman she figured she would finally have something that her cousin didn't. Something that was hers and hers alone. However it seemed that when she told her mother of her plans, her mother had told Baako's father. Of course they could afford to get Baako the very best mentors.
Eleina sighed as she sat outside of her house on the front porch. She was painting her nails a teal color, for her Matorian ancestry, when she heard someone coming. Looking up she realized it was none other then the last person she wished to see. "Hello cousin." she said with a roll of her eyes.
"Hello little cousin, want to see a trick?"
She didn't, but she knew better then to tell her cousin no. She would do it anyways. She always did whatever she wanted. "Sure." she said with a shrug.
Baako laughed as she flicked her wrist. At once fire appeared atop of it. Baako smiled brightly. "Impressive isn't it? My mentor taught me it this morning. She said I'm a natural with magic." her voice was taunting as always, looking for a fight. At least she wasn't with all of her friends. She was always worse when she had people to show off for. "Can you do anything like that?"
She couldn't. Not even a little. While she was okay with water magic, she had to actually have water in front of her to do anything with it. She couldn't summon water, and she definitely couldn't summon fire. However she didn't want to admit it, didn't want to tell her cousin that Baako was stronger then her. Instead she returned to painting her nails. "Of course. I taught myself that trick ages ago." it was a dangerous lie, but her pride was getting the better of her and she wasn't willing to admit defeat. "Both fire and water easily listen to me." she boasted. She was going too far, but hopeful she would just anger Baako and the girl would leave her alone.
Baako laughed, the fire still in her hand. "You are lying little cousin, I can see it in your face. Just the other your mother came asking my father a favor. You know what it was?"
Eleina could have cursed her mother at that point. She knew that the woman meant well, and just wanted her daughter to do well on her chosen path, but going to Baako's father? She shouldn't have done that.
"She asked my father to find a teacher for you. Said you weren't doing so well by yourself and that she couldn't find anyone to teach you. I think it serves you right. Your kind shouldn't get the same privileges that mine do. Maybe your mother shouldn't have married a hyrbid, then she wouldn't have such a hopeless child." Baako laughed, the hand that didn't hold the ball of fire griping her stomach like she had said the funnies thing in the world.
That was it, that was too much for Eleina to take. It was one thing for Baako to call her names, to mess with her, but it was a whole different story to bring her father and mother's marriage into the fight. Her parents loved each other, more then she had ever seen another couple love each other. She put down the nail polish and stood up. Baako was still laughing, but Eleina ended to put a stop to that.
"So you think my mother, who is much happier then yours, did the wrong thing? From what I hear your parents don't even sleep in the same room. And your mother, she seems to favor the water slave that use to work for you guys doesn't she? Seems that even though he is free he still sticks around?" so she was playing dirty, she didn't care. Baako didn't get to bring her family into things without her own families dirty laundry being brought to light as well.
Baako stopped laughing, and a blush spread across her face. "You take that back."
"Did I strike a nerve? The truth hurts. Who knows, your net sibling might be a hopeless hybrid like me." She had went too far, and if she didn't feel that in her gut she saw it in her cousins face. Before she could say anything Baako launched the fireball towards Eleina. Eleina screamed, throwing her hands up to protect her face.
"My hand! My hand!" she screamed as she rushed into the house. She found the water basin and plunged her hand into it, getting a bit of relief.
"That will teach you!" Baako said with a laugh as her footsteps seem to walk away. It did teach Eleina. She had to be more careful dealing with people more powerful then she was, and she would have a scar to remind her.

Solo Two Eleina traveled, a lot. She was thankful that she had Nova though, the creature carried her much more then she ever thought she would. Traveling between her mother and father's house in Oba, her father's families house in Matori, and then her mentors house on the edge of Oba was taking it's tole on both her and Nova. Their legs showed how much they walked, they were much more muscular then even when Eleina was dancing, and her feet weren't the loveliest. She tried to take care of them as much as she could, but really it was hard when she was on her feet as much as she was. It was down right impossible even. No matter how many times she soaked her feet in hot water, or put lotion on them, they were the feet of a traveler and she wasn't sure how she felt about this.
"Another pair of shoes ruined Nova. I swear, right now I spend more on shoes then anything else. I wish I could just get a cheap pair and be over with it, but we walk around so much that if I bought a cheap pair I would be in more pain then even imaginable." She complained, laying outside of her family home with Nova. She was staying with her mother and father for a bit, unwinding. Her mentor was going to see someone for a while which meant she wouldn't be able to see him anyways and she had been with her father's family in Matori a lot recently. It would be nice to be home with her family for a change and help with some of the things around the house that her mother had been asking her to do for a while. She was hoping to stay away from her mother's family though, but she knew that would be asking a lot. They always seemed to be around when she was around, especially her least favorite cousin.
"Oh, look who decided to finally grace us with her presence."
It was like thinking about her made her appear. If that was the case Eleina would have to be more careful not to think about her cousin Baako. "It's nice to see you as well Baako."
"You're never here anymore. To what do we owe the pleasure of your company?"
"No reason really. I just wanted to be home for a bit, spend some time with my parents. Why? Does my being here bother you?"
"You know it does. Your father being here is one thing, at least he's useful, but you're nothing more then a stain on the family name. I much prefer it when you're off doing whatever it is that you do when you're not here."
Eleina rolled her eyes. She was sure that her cousin knew exactly where she was when she wasn't home. She just had this feeling that Baako kept tabs on her, made sure she was in the know all the time. It wouldn't be like her to ever not know what was going on in the world. "Well I'm sorry that me being here makes you sad. If it would help you could just go to your house and stay away from mine? It's not like we really live all that close to each other. I'm sure if you stayed at your house and I stayed at mine we wouldn't even have a problem. What do you say?"
She knew that her cousin wouldn't be okay with that, she didn't benefit from it in any way, but she had to try. She was tired and although she was much more confident in her ablities to fight her cousin then she once she was she wasn't eager to fight Baako.
With a creepy smile that Eleina knew meant trouble Baako lunged towards Eleina, fire already in her hands. At once Eleina called forth a wall of water, ready to not only put out the fire spell but make sure that her cousin was very wet.
Luckily for Baako she was able to stop before she got drenched, but just barely. "Oh I see you've learned some new tricks cousin. I guess you aren't wasting your time while you're away. That's cool, you're so cool. You can make a wall of water."
She was impressed, she had to be. What Eleina had done was impressive. She had pulled all the water moisture from the air and made it into a wall of water. Since he cousin also used magic she would know just how hard it was to pull that much water moisture from the air in Oba. But of course she wouldn't show it. When it came to Eleina she never showed any emotion other then hatred and anger.
"Lay off Baako. We aren't children anymore and there is no reason what so ever for us to fight. You're strong, I'm strong, we're both strong. We don't need to sit here and prove to each other who is the strongest. If you really want I'll even admit that you're the strongest. Would that make you go away?"
"Not a chance. But I bore of this game," Baako yawned, covering her mouth with her hand, "so I'm going home. Maybe I'll come back later when you aren't here. Or maybe I'll come after you when you are least expecting it, so I can prove to you just how much stronger then you I am. Who knows."
Eleina knew. Eleina knew that this wouldn't be the last time that she saw her cousin while she stayed home. No matter how much she tried to say out of trouble when Baako came around trouble found her. "Good bye cousin. Hopefully I won't see you for some time, but we both know that won't happen so let's just say see you later."
Baako laughed and wiggled her fingers before walking away.
When her cousin was finally out of sight Eleina turned to Nova. "Why didn't you help me silly!" She scolded her familiar with a smile. She had gotten off lightly this time, but she knew the next time Baako came around there would be a fight that no wall of water would be able to stop.

Growth Solo She was ready, or at least she thought that she was. Her mother had told her that Baako had come looking for her the day before and Eleina knew that she would be back sometime soon. She didn't take no for an answer and ever since their last little chat Eleina had just been waiting for her cousin to strike. She knew that Baako was planning something and it put her on edge all the time. She had wanted to just relax with her parents and enjoy staying home with them for a change but she couldn't even do that. Nope, no matter what she was doing half of her mind was always preoccupied with wondering when Baako would strike. Of course she knew that her cousin wouldn't attack her with her mother around, she wasn't that stupid and she valued Eleina's mother's opinion of her too much for that, but every other time was fair game.
After going to see a beast tamer Eleina had been working with Nova every day and was pretty confident in the creatures ability to guard. She didn't think that Nova would attack, it just wasn't in her and their training on that subject wasn't going well, but as long as she was guard she would at least be of little help in a fight.
As time went on although Eleina was still worried about her cousin attacking she tried her hardest too put the thought out of her head. It would be just like her cousin to scare her into thinking she was going to do something and then never even do anything. So three days after Eleina's mother told her about her cousin Eleina decide that her cousin wasn't coming back and that she would just enjoy the time with her family and not worry about something that would possibly never happen. So while the last Eleina wlked quickly to the market place today her and Nova took their time.
The pair of them weren't even half way to the market place when it happened, a fire ball came flying towards Eleina from no where. She was only able to dodge because the shot had been ill aimed. At once Eleina's mind kicked into over drive. On her left she could see Baako coming towards her and she knew she would not be able to out run the other girl and even if she screamed there was no one around that could come and help her. Baako had planned it out perfectly, just as Eleina knew she would.
"I'm coming for you cousin. This time however you have no where to hide, no where to go, you have to fight me. This time I'm not backing down either and I'm not going to go easy on you. Prepare to be erased from existence, the stain of our family finally removed."
She was serious, that much Eleina could tell. All the other times she had only been testing Eleina, feeling her out for how far she would go, but this was for real. The look on her face was murderous. It was a look that Eleina had only seen flashes of before, but this, this was the real thing.
She was serious, that much Eleina could tell. All the other times she had only been testing Eleina, feeling her out for how far she would go, but this was for real. The look on her face was murderous. It was a look that Eleina had only seen flashes of before, but this, this was the real thing. As her cousin got closer she lodged another fire ball, this time catching the tips of Eleina's hair. Eleina ordered Nova to get away, realizing that even though her familiar could now guard her this wasn't the fight for that. She didn't want to get Nova killed, and she was pretty sure her cousin would have no problem doing so.
"Baako why are you doing this? I know you don't like me, but you don't have to kill me! I'm not your enemy." Eleina yelled at her cousin, she was annoyed of all this and angry at her cousin but more then that she was scared. This wasn't a fight she was sure she could win.
Baako laughed, "You don't get it do you Eleina? You are my enemy. You've always been my enemy and you will always be my enemy. As long as you live I will never be free."
She didn't understand. What did her life having to do with Baako being free? Baako was a pureblood, a noble, she was more free then Eleina could ever be. "What are you talking about? I don't bother you ever. I've only ever been to your house when I was a youngling and I'm not friends with any of your friends? What do I have to do with your freedom?" This time when her cousin lodged a fireball towards her she countered it with a ball of water.
"Silly little cousin, even though you don't come to my house your name is always in it. You mother is always talking about you, always so proud of you. It's sicking. I hear it all the time. Oh did you know Eleina did this, or look she convinced the grouchy old man to be her mentor, oh did you know she travels all around Matori and Oba by herself. It's sickening, always being in your shadow. It's sicking how they don't know how unimportant you are. How irrelevant. It's my name they should have on their tongue, not yours."
At once Eleina understood what was wrong with Baako, why her cousin was always coming after her, and she was enraged. "You're jealous of me! Jealous of the girl who had to hide what she was for so long? The girl who had to stay out of the spotlight just to make sure she wasn't in danger? Oh I can't believe this. Poor Baako, given everything she ever wanted in life but because her mother and aunt talk about her cousin she wants to kill her." Eleina sent a streak of lighting at her cousin, the anger inside of her getting stronger and stronger. How dare her cousin feel that way, and how dare she want to kill Eleina over something so pointless!
"Oh shove it Eleina. Stop talking and start fighting." It seemed that fire was all that Baako knew, because as soon as she was done talking she sent a whole mess of fire balls towards Eleina.
Some of them hit her, at least two on her legs and one on her left arm, but Eleina did not falter. The pain was ignored, changed into anger. Water was good for defense but when it came to offense it was lightening that she knew would do the most danger, that or fire but she didn't want to use that since it was obvious that her cousin was stronger when it came to that spell. She sent lighting bolt after lightening bolt after her cousin, hoping that at least some of them would hit since she wasn't really aiming for Baako just shooting them in her general direction.
This continued on for some time, Eleina getting hit many times but not stopping due to the adrenaline and anger that fueled her. Twice she used one of her healing spells to heal wounds that were bigger then the rest, but other then that she was completely on the offense. After a while had passed both girls were tired, though Eleina had at least the strength to stand while Baako knelt on the floor. Slowly Eleina walked towards her, anger still on her face and lighting bouncing around her hands.
"I could end you now." She said as she stood over Baako, her eyes narrowed.
"Do it. I would rather be dead then be defeated by you." Baako said, spitting on the ground next to Eleina's feet.
She was ready to do it. Ready to kill her cousin and she could see in Baako's eyes that she was ready to accept death. But when she went to do it, when she went to kill Baako, the lightening faded from her hands and the anger from her hands. "Baako I don't want to kill you. I don't like you, I'll never like you, but you are my cousin and I won't have your life in my hands. I won't kill you. I won't give you that satisfaction."
Taking a few steps away Eleina watched as her cousin grew angrier and angrier. "No! Kill me! Kill me or one day I'll kill you! Maybe not today, but I'll kill you. Mark my word."
Eleina took a deep breath and turned away from Baako, walking once again towards the market place. She would not worry about Baako and her threats. She forgave the girl, and she hoped with time that her cousin would be able to see just how wrong she was and release the anger she was holding in. Now that Eleina had not only tasted anger but let it consume her, even if just for a brief period of time, she understood why her cousin felt the way she did and really she pitied her. She pitied all people who were so blinded by rage that they made up problems where there were none.
As she called Nova to her side and continued on her way Eleina made a promise to herself. A promise that never again she would let anger consume her like it had, and that she would never take a life for a reason so pointless.
