As Anya took in the sights, Cesc leaned forward and gave his chip to the croupier, murmuring instructions and getting four $25 green chips in return. A lock of his curled back hair gave out in his movements, but Cesc was quick to put up a hand and smooth the strands back. He smiled as he watched Anya-- there was something nice about seeing her experience and approve new things.
"Roulette is easy," he said. "They'll spin the wheel and throw the ball in the opposite direction. Beforehand, you can place a bet on whatever you like-- the exact number you think it'll land on, the color -- black or red-- or whether it'll be evens or odds. The more exact your guess, the more money you get back for guessing it--the safer your bet, the less."
He smiled, holding up a chip as the table called for bets. "Shall we give it a shot?"

The calls of French and English from the adjoining tables seemed to declare otherwise, but she trusted the Stag on many a thing, so why not this as well? She looked at the chips he held up to her and took one as her answer to his question, slipping into a space between gamblers that wasn't so tight knit.
"Which numbers are safe and which are not?" She looked at the board and the numbers thereon, along with its alternating red/black color scheme. People were placing bets and she watched what numbers they took up. One man declared twenty-three to be his lucky number just as he stamped his stack of chips down onto its square.
Anya had never considered having a lucky number before. Perhaps she should have; it might have made things easier now. As her eyes scanned the numbers not yet taken up, the Widow wasn't sure on any of them. Red, black, odd, even...The longer she waited, the more numbers were covered and the closer to bets closed it became. A few moments passed and she noticed there was one number that had not yet been touched. It was probably fitting, given the day. Perhaps it was a sign in this game of chance. Perhaps she should take it.
Why not?
She looked at Cesc, any traces of frustration or confusion at this game and its numbers system suddenly gone.
"I'm five today, you know." She said it mildly, very matter-of-fact. One she stated the obvious, she turned back to the table and set her chip down on the five square. "Let's see if it pays off."
