It was difficult to swallow, knowing that the slightest sounds would give them away. That the slightest movement that wasn't the wind in the leaves, and even that, could be their deaths. Or, perhaps not death per say, but something they would wish for by the time the Alkidikes got done with them. Holding his breath Kdal eased down, settling his weight more on his feet then on his hands, where he gripped the branches bark tightly.

The branch they were on was thick and steady, and the movement didn't even make the bark creek.

Kdal couldn't say just how long they waited for the war party under them to move away, but it felt like a small slice of eternity.

As the party left Teiluj cringed at the pain in her side. Looking Kdal over Teiluj reached out towards the larger wound on his side. "Here let me help, I'm a healer." Whimpering painfully at the soreness in her body Teiluj tried very hard to concentrate. The greenish blue aura of her magic swirled around her in a thick cloud before her hands moved towards Kdal. Pausing she looked up at him. "This is going to really hurt. I'm sorry." Her hand rested directly on the wound as her magic shifted about covering everywhere her hands touched.

Her hands were picking up traces of the shifters blood as she worked at trying to heal the wounds. Pulling her hands away as a thick salve like substance remained in place. "That will increase you're healing and dull the pain a little." Teiluj spoke, her hands trembling as another pain rushed into her side. Her hand flew to rest over her pain as if it could somehow ease her suffering. It didn't little to help however, as Teiluj's mind was far to frantic to be able to focus on her own healing. She was far more concerned with helping Kdal. "I'm Teiluj. By the way." She grimaced even speech was hard on her.

Wincing Kdal dropped the hand he held against his side, showing the ragged gash to the girl. A healer huh? He was lucky and unlucky in that regards. Usually healers were left unmolested, their skills incredibly valuable. The hate the Alkidikes felt towards hybrids must be great if they'd overlooked that skill.

Hurt...didn't really describe the feeling he felt, as her hands rested on his side. It was...itchy? A very painful itch that he knew would only hurt worse if he scratched at it. He made a face at the sensation, nose wrinkling and eyes watering. He dug the tips of his fingers into the branch they knelt on, hoping to distract himself for a little bit. He shuddered at the feeling of something wet and goopy remaining as the girl pulled her hand back.

Glancing down he saw that it was an ointment of some kind. Healers were amazing, being able to just pull healing magics out of nowhere. Carefully he scraped some of the salve off his side and smeared it along another cut. It didn't bleed much but he'd rather it not get infected.

"Kdal." He replied, looking at her after he'd wiped away the last of the salve. His eyes widened as he saw her holding her side, and how shallow her breathing was. "Hey, hey easy." He murmured, really looking at her. She certainly was pretty. Pretty bruised up that was. He scooted closer to her and frowned at how dark some parts of her skin were getting. "You really got worked over." He commented, "Probably bruised up real good on the inside. Can you heal yourself? Is that something a healer can do?"

Teiluj struggled with her quick shallow breaths, trying to hold back tears of pain as she shifted to ease whatever ailed her. Nothing seemed to help much, Her eyes turned towards Ast remembered how long she had been gone before even running into the Alkidikes. Her mother was bound to be worried about her by now, that was, if she had been home. As it stood only the oban she was tending to was currently at home.

Turning her eyes back to Kdal as he wiped away the sticky substance. Wincing as she tried to breath and yet not breath. Her lungs hurt, her head swam, her body throbbed in pain. Moaning, Teiluj lifted a hand to the greater injuries, closing her eyes she struggled to pull on the magic she could use to heal. Her mind wandered aimlessly, and Teiluj had no way of pulling it back together.

Shaking her head at his question slowly Teiluj ignored the desire to wrap her arms around her side. "I can't concentrate, so I can't heal." Teiluj muttered glancing back towards Ast. "I have medical things back home that can help. That can wait, are you alright now?" Teiluj asked.

Kdal snorted, "No it can't wait. What happens if you're bleeding on the inside?" He said, a note of reprimand in his voice. "So busy fussing over me that you've forgotten how to take care of yourself." He eyed the drop down to the ground and grimace. No way was he going to attempt that. His best bet would be to try to either climb down, or hope the trees would gradually get low enough for him to jump. Then he could catch Teiluj if she dropped down.

"How far away do you live? If not my parents and I are staying just outside of town, we've got some supplies that you can use." He said as he stood, "We'll have to take the long way around town, just in case there's more Alkidikes prowling for trouble."

He dug around in his satchel and was delighted to see that nothing inside had broken. Pulling out the water skin he offered it to Teiluj. "Try to drink something, it should help clear your head a little."

Looking at the seemingly male shifter from the corner of her eyes Teiluj regarded him suspiciously. Why was he getting so upset about her tending to others before herself. If she worried about herself first, others would perish. She knew she wasn't dying just in alot of pain, as such she could tend to herself once she had returned home.

The thought of home pushed Nkole into her mind again. She had left him alone while having gone to the market, and he wasn't at 100% strength yet. Her heart flopped painfully, as she looked away from Kdal her face paled as she shook her head. "Not far, I live on the outskirts of the village, but... I need to get home... Someone is there." She grimaced if she was being targeted because of her mixed heritage, what would they do to Nkole, an Oban!? She had to get home and make sure he was ok.

Giving the water skin a brief thought, Teiluj shook her head. "No you need that water. I'll be fine."

Huffing Kdal gave the skin another shake, as if to entice a particularly trying Sailscale before putting it away. "I'll be fine, thanks to your help." He said, knowing that the argument was lost before it ever really began. "You wont let me escort you home will you?" He asked, sounding exasperated. "It wouldn't sit well with me if you got attacked again because I let you go off alone."

A small screech interrupted him as Dakri swooped over from the nearby tree, clicking and pawing at him, checking him over. The sailscale gave him a dirty look for his injuries and started to clean one of the scrapes on his hand. "On second thought.... How about I act as a distraction for you? I'll go down first, and potentially draw everyone's attention as I fail to climb down well, and head back home. They won't try anything again within the town, now that people know what they're up to."

Teiluj moaned and gave it a thought. Eventually nodding her head in agreement. "on the condition you don't try to fall in love with me." Teiluj halfheartedly joked in an attempt to ease the shifters concern. Looking around to find the source of the screech Teiluj's eyes settled on the Sailscale. "I don't think that's a safe idea uhm shifter..."

Scratching the back of her neck Teiluj tried to follow the path down, struggling to keep herself from falling. Stumbling a little when her feet found the solid ground of the forest floor. Closing her antenna, Teiluj struggled to focus on the forest, to find where the Alkdidkes would have dispersed to. Would they have had time to regather?

Kdal snorted with good nature at her comment, "Sweetheart, you're cute but not really my type." He replied, bodily lifting the sailscale to drape him over his shoulders. The familiar fell limp, obviously wary of hurting him more than he already was by clinging to him. "Hmm? Oh, I'm Kdal. Sorry, I thought you heard me earlier." He leaned over the side of the branch, watching as Teiluj made her way down before giving her a small wave.

Taking a deep breath he tried to follow the same path she did, only he slipped and fell the last few feet. Wincing he sat on the ground, bottom smarting from his abrupt landing. "Augh, yeah. I'm going to leave the tree climbing to those who've been properly taught it." He grumble, slowly standing and brushing off the seat of his pants. "It's different than cliff climbing, I swear."

Teiluj winced at the landing reaching forward to offer her assistance before stopping. That would probably lead to another argument about how she needed to look after herself. "Are you okay?" She asked with real concern ignoring once again the way her chest throbbed with her breathing. It felt odd to her that a shifter wasn't as adept at climbing through the trees. They lived up in them to avoid the Alkidike. Giving the shifter a puzzled expression Teiluj eventually turned towards home. "I hope we meet with better circumstances."

"Me too, take care Sweetling." Kdal replied, not bothering to assure her, yet again, that he would live. At least she didn't do anything silly like try to heal him again. He would admit though, that he didn't like how her breathing sounded, but if she was sure that she'd be okay going home by herself, well, Kdal wasn't going to push the issue.

"Take care of yourself Teiluj. May the Moon light your path and keep the shadows at bay." He called over his shoulder as he started back towards the village. He had a date with a hot bath and some bandages. ....and an earful from his fathers.
