 Tengu nodded, staring out over the sparkling water for a bit longer. Of course it was dangerous, he knew without really knowing, having never experienced it first hand, but it was the sort of truth that was always true, without really knowing or seeing. It just was. "You must be very strong, and very brave, to live in such a dangerous place, little princess."
Now, Tengu had fallen in love with that look in her eye. The reason he loved to tell his stories, aside from the inherent need, like breathing, was that look. "All of the royal family that dwells in the sky has magic in their feathers" he began, making most of it up as he went.
"Long ago, this was when there was so much magic in the world that you could just reach out and pluck it from the air and weave it like cloth, one of my ancestors was a very, very powerful mage. This was before the Sky Kingdom existed, you see. She wanted a kingdom of her own, because she had lots of siblings and they always fought. To see who was the most powerful, and so she pulled so much magic to herself and wove a cloak. It was beautiful so that everyone wanted it but when she put it on, poof--!"he spread his wings out, having tucked them down against his back just a bit ago, for this very reason. "Giant wings sprouted from her back, and she flew away, wanting nothing more do with their warring. So, ever since then all of her descendants have had the magic." He folded his paws, right over left and fluttered his wings again, hoping for more questions so he could continue to build on his tale.

Her gaze never left him as he wove his tale, she didnt know it was just a story he was making up, she soaked it up as truth. No one could tell her otherwise, and just wait until she told her siblings about this!
None of them would believe her...And she would most likely get in trouble for her adventure..maybe it was best they didnt know. Goodness knows she wasnt ready to share this sky prince yet!
"..Poof.." She mimicked softly, watching his wings with an ever growing fascination. "What did her siblings do when she took the magic and flew away?" She asked with a tilt of her head. "Did they try and have a war with her?" She was so curious.

Tengu smiled as Siren sat in rapt attention, he would be happy whether or not she believe the stories he told as truth, that she listened was good enough. Believing them was... "That family was always warring about everything. Who had the best magic was only one of their fights. But, yes, they still wanted to war with her over her new wings as well as the stolen magic. Only none of them could weave magic as well as she could."
He settled his wings again, shifting on the warm sand. "One of her sisters managed to make herself a smaller pair of wings, formed out of wax and bird feathers but she couldn't fly nearly as high with them as the magic cloak could take the older sister. So her siblings continued to fight about other things. Who could run the fastest, who had the best children, any silly old thing you could think of."
It's not crappy. <3

Her eyes all but popped out of her skull, as she used to tail to wet her petite frame, she couldnt dry out now!
"Did one take to the ocean? Was there an ocean during this time?" To Siren, the ocean was as old as the land, even rumored to be older by her kind. "Maybe thats why my elders warn about creatures of land..horrible monsters." She glanced around carefully, maybe one was sneaking about and going to make her a tasty snack..she eyed the safety of the sea.

"Oh yes, I was just getting to that part," Tengu spread his wings again, shading them both as well as he could. The way she stayed near the water made sense, constantly flicking it over herself as to not dry out, or so he could only assume.
"So the younger sister flew as high as she could but it wasn't high enough. So when she fell and fell and fell. Splash! Right into the ocean. She was, rescued by a mermaid," he though a moment. "No, she was eaten by a giant fish! The mermaid tried to save her though." Tengu gave a nod, that sounded much more exciting, still, it was pretty hard to edit his story on the fly. The way she ate up every detail he really wanted her to enjoy it.

She shook her head shamefully, "There are large fish, and sharks too..Sharks though.." She shuddered. "There are many dangers of the deep.." Her fathers words found their way out via her voice.
"Was she sad about her sister?" Siren knew she would be heart broken if anything happened to her sisters, or even her brothers. "Who rules now?" She asked, she had a million questions bouncing around in her head that it was hard to pin one down.

"Are sharks monsters?" Tengu wondered aloud, the way her tone held that sort of old wisdom, he wasn't exactly questioning her. "Perhaps the mermaid could have saved her after all... mmm, but that would be a different story altogether."
Letting the little uudesa ask questions of her own, Tengu tilted his head, considering carefully. He wanted to answer, but he wanted to form the answers into the story so it would all work as a whole. "Mhm, yes of course... Elder sister up in her cloud kingdom learned of her younger sister's fate... She would come back down to visit her siblings from time to time, you see. For as much as they warred and fought, considering each other rivals in magic and such, they were still family and she loved them very much..."
An idea came to him, while it might have contradicted some of the things he said he went with it anyway rushing into the telling of the tale and spinning it grandly as he could. "Ah, here we go. Now I am remembering it correctly."
And so he told Siren how the Eldest sister managed to convince all her siblings to pool their powers and save their youngest sister. Transforming them all into creatures of the deep they battled with the giant fish and made it spit out their little sister. Rounding out the tale by having the Youngest want to stay in the ocean, befriending the mer, who he remembered to throw in mid battle and forgetting that the Youngest wouldn't have known her before falling into the ocean in the first place, but it seemed like a nice way to wrap the story up anyway.

Tengu had paused now and then for her reactions and to answer the questions as they came up, doing his best to keep the story thrilling and his listener happy too. If Siren protested any part of it he would carefully amend his words, saying 'no, wait, that is what really happened', the young uudesa obviously knew more about living in the sea than he did so incorporating her input was important.
After the story eventually wound down, Tengu noted how much the sun had moved and the tide was starting to shift. His throat was very dry from all the talking he had done and he knew from experience he could drink from the ocean, but the salty water only made him thirstier. It was getting late.

The even was starting to grow heavy, but she thought little of it as she ate up his words, it didnt even click if there was a hole in his story, or something out of place, instead she simply drank it in.
But as his voice lulled to a stop, she blinked, and noticed how the sea was shifting and gulped. Her parents would have noticed by now that she was missing among the lot, and she knew would be in deep trouble now.
"I-I gotta go!" She exclaimed as she tried to wiggle herself backwards with a grunt. "My parents are going to kiiiiilllllllll me.." She grinned wildly though. "Come back and I'll find you.." She said as she wiggled her little tail back into the waters she called home.

Tengu blinked as the young girl suddenly came to her senses and hurried to leave. Obviously they had to part but even for all the time they had spent it felt too soon, too sudden.
"Please don't die, princess!" He spat out, pushing himself to his feet and reaching a paw out to her imploringly, as if she had been serious, he knew it was just a phrase.
Perhaps it was silly to feel this way. She was just a kit, she wasn't going to judge him too harshly for his eccentricities.
"It's just... I don't have a lot of siblings... to come and save you with?" he admitted to sum it up, an actual truth about himself. Smiling widely at her grinning, nodding at her parting words. "Til we meet again."
