Skadravi called her a godsend. While it was lovely to hear such a compliment, she wasn't so sure about that. When someone you loved was sick or injured, then you took care of them. Anyone else would have done the same. He would have probably done all that she did and more for her, had she been in his shoes. "I just want to care for you as best I can," she told him after his comment. "You deserve it."
Once they were up and out of the Haven, Khalel couldn't help but grin and take in a large inhalation of air. It was fresh and clean, not cloying like the air down in their little sanctuary. It was nice to be out in the city again, and this time of the day was probably the young woman's favorite. It was the time when the city was starting to lull to sleep, and people were returning to their homes. The couple, as a result, would be able to enjoy themselves without much interference. She was thankful for that.
"Being up here will help, I imagine," she told him as she led him slowly through the streets of Sulburi. "Fresh air, and a chance to see the stars. You can't get much better than that."

"And I'm very grateful for it..." Dravi murmured, twirling his fingers about a strand of hair that strayed to close to his hand. Just... It'd be better if everything didn't ache. Every muscle in his body was so tense and underused the past several days that it just felt cumbersome trying to coerce them to function properly. He fidgeted awkwardly as they moved, struggling to stretch himself out, while minding the ever-present and still looming fear of upsetting his lash marks. The salves and poultices Khalel had purchased in days passed numbed most everything, so he at least had that in his favor. But by the time they made it past the thickest conglomeration of buildings, Skadravi already felt worn. It was a strain being up on his feet, a struggle to move in ways that wouldn't aggravate his injuries, and annoying that Khalel had to slow her own pace to match his. Dravi didn't generally "hate," but he did hate Kanovu. Stupid man. Mother would hear of this. Not... because she could do anything about it, of course. But because she needed to not go back. She was fine in Juahar where she was. He turned into Khalel's hold, kissing the lobe of her ear. "I expect... you are not long for this land yourself, hm?"

She could tell he was worn out, even though they hadn't really made it very far yet. His weight pushed against hers, and she did her best to support it so that neither of them would tumble to the ground. Such a task was hard at first. She almost did fall a couple times, initially, but it was easier now. Khalel shifted her position, so that she had a better hold on her boyfriend, and continued on.
"I will not miss Oba when we go," she told him honestly. The sandy nation carried too many bad memories for her, just as it did him. Others probably would have called her selfish, a fool for giving up her posh lifestyle. But it was never actually hers -- not really. It was her father's, and it had been imposed upon her, just as his racist views had. "We will start over in Matori, and it will be wonderful."

It didn't come soon enough when they'd reached a public courtyard, full of a sparse smattering of grass, a lone tree, and a bench in the middle. It was the type of lower-district area that came off as 'enough' without looking like it had much thought or time put into it. Despite this, it served its purpose well. The couple laid out their blanket, set out their picnic, and nested down to stare upward and out together. The outside air tasted good. The cool night winds felt wonderful. It really was much nicer than being in the haven for damn near approaching a week. More than satisfactory. He let his fingers slip over Khalel's shoulder, dusting along her back and through her rust-colored waves. "I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it," Skadravi admitted. "This is where I've lived my whole life. There have been good and bad times... Not expressly one more than the other. At the same time, seeing Matori, with you, will be a welcome change. Being with you, for as long as you'll have me, can be nothing but wonderful. I wanted to make you happy. That's... why all of this-" He made a vague gesture toward himself. "-happened... I still want to make you happy. I will do anything to make you happy-" He kissed her shoulder. "-keep you safe-" Another kiss to her neck. "-comfortable." Her cheek. "I know you're excited, you should be, but this is part of your life and heritage too. Don't think too poorly of it."

Skadravi was right, of course. As much as she wanted to get away from Oba, the sandy nation that the two of them called home was a part of them. The heat, the sun, the crowds -- everything that made Oba what it was -- was in their background and history. The two of them wouldn't be who they were without it, nor would they have met each other if they hadn't been in the same place at the same time. She had more to thank it for than she realized, and it was through her boyfriend that she came to accept all of this. As much as she wanted to forget it, she would never really be able to.
"You're right..."
The kisses he gave her made the young woman shudder, and she smiled warmly at him. He would do anything for her, and she had no doubt in her mind about that. She would do the same for him, regardless of the consequences. Just being near him made her heart soar, and she couldn't wait to spend more of her life with him. So long as Skadravi was with her, then she would be happy anywhere. In Oba, in Matori -- the location didn't matter. So long as the two of them were together, then that was the important thing. They were in for an adventure, the two of them, and she couldn't wait to see where it took them. It was going to be glorious.
