They both knew he was lying, but neither seemed eager to press it. Alek was rather shocked that Kauff actually appeared to be disappointed over all of this, but he decided that was only because he was used to getting his way. No good would have come of any of it, and as Alek approached again and took Kauff's hand, he realized that as uncomfortable as the moment had been, they had needed it for closure. To prove they were better without it.

"I'll see you again someday."

Alek was silent during the embrace, leaning his head as close to Kauff's shoulder as it could get. It was going to be difficult losing the only friend he'd had in a long time, he thought, feeling guilty as he did. Kayin was his best friend and always would be, and even though they had reconciled, he was back to his old habits, hiding things from her again. Large, blond things. Alek smiled faintly as he took a step back and nodded.

Alek stood motionless as Kauff faded from view. Having the Wind around had been the most exciting thing that had happened to him for as long as he could remember, and that included helping his people win a war.

Now it was time to find excitement on his own again. It was time to try new things despite his fear, to be of use before he was a doddering elder. He knew what needed to be done, and yet...

The Ice remained where he was for a little over an hour, afraid to begin. Then, all in a rush, he sighed and turned home, his cloak swirling around him as he went.
