"That's the plan." Otto affirmed, lugging properly wrapped electronics across the room once Gale finished wrapping wires. "I can't run away, and I can't move. So I figured I'd just re do the whole damn place." If his apartment matched who he was, then he would always remember who he was. Mistakes and bad times would no longer make him detach and forget. "It's kinda fun. Makes me excited about somethin' for once." "And I can't wait to use that ********' sledgehammer."

He took the DVD player and the matching wires and carted them over to the other side to stick with the rest. "Redoing the place so it suits your needs seems like the perfect plan," said Gale decisively. "You do what you've gotta do."
He reached for one side of the television, which could probably be lifted easily by someone with longer arms but alas.
"It's nice to see you excited, though," said Gale, giving Otto a look over the TV. "And I'm sure the sledgehammering will be brilliantly cathartic. Let out all that stress and all."

"Yup. And I gotta warn ya; I am chalk full of stress. That wall is gunna get decimated. It won't be purty." He smirked, helping Gale lift and move the TV. "You can join in, but the first few hits are mine."

"By all means, let it all out," said Gale, once they'd set the TV down. He gestured grandly towards Otto. "Now we just gotta move the stand, and then you can start beating to your heart's content."

"Right." He eyed the TV stand. One last obstacle between him and destroying s**t. The stand was fairly wide, and so he employed Gale's help once more in moving it. "Shoulda put wheels on this thing."

The TV stand was the most awkward, only because it didn't have very good places for Gale to hold onto it. He had to bend over a little, shuffling his feet back slowly and painstakingly until they were finally on the other side.
"Wheels would have been much better," he grunted, straightening and exhaling a short breath. Gale glanced around and then plucked up one of the sledgehammers, holding it out to Otto with a little smirk on his lips.
"Have at it."

The heavy piece of furniture was moved with some difficulty, but once it was down, the fun could begin. A grin spread over Otto's face, taking the offered sledgehammer with great eagerness. The weight of it was as intimidating as it was empowering. He looked over his shoulder at the wall that would soon fall. The wall that seperated the living room and the bedroom. Moved was the sofa where he'd had many intimate times with Maebe. Behind the wall were the beds he'd shared with Cami and Maebe. Intimate times, quiet times, sentimental times. So many memories and emotions had imprinted themselves in these walls in the last year. Night terrors where he'd comforted Cami, or she'd comforted him. The times he'd spent drunk as he grieved and slept in horror after Nevada's grisly death. Too many memories, and all of them holding him back, making him sad and upset. With this one silly act, he'd destroy them all. Otto walked over to the wall, gripping the hammer firmly in his right hand. As soon as he was nearby, he reeled his arm back, and slammed the tool hard into the wall. A giant dent formed after the sickening crunch hit the drywall. It really did feel good. He felt excited and relieved, as he hit it over, and over, and over. Pieces began to fall away, and a hole got bigger. With his bare hands he ripped away at the hanging dregs of wall. And then he began again, hitting away at any surface left untouched. He wasn't sure how long it would take. It didn't matter. Time didn't exist as he ripped and hit and pounded away the wall. Every negative emotion, every moment he'd spent hating himself, pitying himself and hating his life and his choices. All of it with every strike he took. The strikes were furious, and frequent. He'd forgotten Gale was even there. He destroyed the memories, he destroyed the pain. The key in his hand that took away his power and strength. The hourglass on his arm that whispered evil promises and a blank contract of which the deal was uncertain and blurry. Everything that had used him and left him, and caused him turmoil. All of it was thrust into each and every slam of the wall.

He took several steps back to make sure he was widely spaced away from Otto's swings, Gale letting him do his thing. This was the important part of their impromptu renovations, the letting go, the attempts at trying to rid himself of the stress on his shoulders, channeling all of his emotions into each and every swing.
The harder that Otto swung, the louder the crash, the more that Gale felt it was necessary. A small, satisfied smile tugged at his lips.
He stood there silently, and waited patiently, leaning against the wall.

I hate this. I hate everything that's happened to me. I hate everything that keeps happening to me. I hate this life. I hate this ******** wall.He poured every emotion left in him into each swing. Ripping the wall apart as if it was the source of all the bad things that happened in his life. As if destroying it would solve every problem he had. As if clearing this wall would clear his mind. Make it all go away. Make everything okay again. As if anything had ever been okay. Without this wall, maybe he would be okay. Maybe his new life would go better for him. Maybe soon all that weighed him down would lighten. He stopped, only when most of the wall had been punctured beyond recognition. When his arms grew tired, and he'd run out of strength. He breathed heavily, a well of emotion brimming and bringing him close to tears. He let the sledgehammer drop loudly next to him, nearly striking his toe in the process. He rubbed his eyes with a sleeve, away from Gale's view; hoping to spare what was left of his dignity after such a tantrum of strength. Everything will be okay. I'll be okay.

He wasn't sure how much time had passed, but it almost felt as though Gale was intruding in a private moment of Otto's. There was emotion in every single swing, so heavy the air almost felt thick for some of it.
But then slowly, it ebbed, and so did the tension, and what was left in the meantime was a decimated wall, a lot of plaster dust, and Otto standing in the ruins.
Gale did not move, almost afraid to break the silence, but after a moment he said lightly, not wanting to put Otto on the spot,
"What a helluva job."

"Ain't much left of it." He said in a stuttered laugh, rubbing the rest of his face dry. "Help me clear this s**t? I'll treat ya to lunch for your help." He finally turned to face Gale after sniffling to himself, rubbing his nose on a sleeve.

"So you did your job, then," said Gale encouraging. "You did what you intended, right?"
He unfolded his arms and crossed the room. Without a word, he lifted a hand and patted Otto's shoulder, giving it a small and encouraging squeeze before his fingers fell away and Gale knelt down, scooping plaster pieces into his arms.
"I brought a broom, it's over there by the door."

"Yeah. More or less." He murmured. He only acknowledged the kind gesture with a small nod. Likely embarrassed and unwilling to make too much notice of it. Ah, right. The broom. The blond wandered to the other end of the room, grabbing the broom and dust pan. On his way back he grabbed a garbage bag. The clean up began. "This is the very un fun part." Otto grumbled after a while. "Killing the wall was way more fun than cleaning up after." He paused to look up at the damage. "Do uh.. you know how to clean up the cieling and wall after taking out a wall? I ain't never had to do that."

He wasn't about to mention the emotional part, because it was clear Otto was trying to stay strong and Gale wasn't about to push too hard when he was already fragile about it.
"Just think," said Gale, dumping things into a pile. "Once everything is cleaned, you'll have an entire blank slate, a whole canvas to work with. As for cleaning the ceiling and wall, well...you might need to sand some stuff down to make it flat and even, but after that it's not too bad."

"That doesn't sound too bad." Otto took a break from cleaning, rubbing sweat from his forehead with a sleeve. "Want a drink?" He asked as he headed to the fridge for a coke. <********." He grumbled, cracking ope the tab of his drink. "This is gunna take forever."
