There was something relieving about someone blowing in with some idea of what the hell to do. This woman swished in like she expected to be respected and deferred to, or at least like she had some sort of plan, and moreover she actually gave him something to do that wasn't "stand around and look confused."

Tell her something she needs to hear, sounded like a simple enough assignment when telling people what they wanted to hear was something he did on a daily basis. But it was different doing it with someone he knew, or even sort of knew, than a total stranger who hew had only the most tenuous of ties with - the same color uniform, the same symbol on their clothes.

Still, he carefully slid his way in and knelt next to her. For a moment he considered taking a hand, but that was a bit much for someone he didn't know.

What did he know of her so far? That she was Megiddo of Saturn, that she was a Knight, that she was dying, and that she was the type of person who wrote her murderer's name in blood.

"You're going to have to hang on a little longer, alright, Megiddo? If you ever want to give Camlann the <******** you he's heartily earned, you're going to have to survive long enough to get into an ambulance." He hoped that was the sort of encouragement that would float with her.

Castor's claims of responsibility left Ploutonion feeling significantly less than impressed. "Perhaps you ought to evaluate your candidates for purification better then," he said, not even turning to look at the man who claimed Camlann's protection. "I'd be a bit concerned if someone I brought over was murdering other Knights of their own order."

The only thing keeping Megiddo awake was her stubborn refusal to give up and die already. Castor had told her to keep her eyes open, and given that he, of everyone here, seemed to have some of the better ideas, she was going to follow it. If she didn't survive, how the hell was she ever going to get revenge on Camlann? She wished she had the energy to object to the prince's proclamation that they couldn't go after Camlann for revenge - that was bullshit, a total dud idea.

But she was too weak to even make a dumb joke about her girlfriend undressing her in public, so really, all of this was the least of her worries.

(She thought, distantly, that she was having some kind of near-death out-of-body weird-as-s**t experience and if she could scream at everyone to stop arguing and take her to the goddamn hospital already, she would, because she did not think she cared whether it happened in an ambulance or on the back of someone's magical tamagotchi as long as she didn't die.

It was a profound relief when, somehow, the knights and senshi assembled there did what Hvergelmir asked of them without argument. She'd never laid any claim to authority over anyone, now or in any memories of their great lost future, and the notion of it sat funny and uneven with her: there are better people than you to give orders, her heart insisted. Just think how poorly that would go. She didn't want or expect people to view her as an authority figure, but all the same -- right now, she was relieved they were willing to listen anyway.

Even Megrez. Even Castor. And if it came with jibes and jokes, if it was all only for the benefit of a warrior fallen and dying on the field -- if only because it was the wrong time to get into a tiff about it -- she was still grateful for the professionalism of that, at least. Let it be a mark in Castor's favor, in Megrez's: they could at least rein it in a little for the sake of a friend in need.

Cognizant of the urgency -- first from Castor, in a telling look -- then confirmed by Andronicus, quick enough thinking to go and serve as a lookout -- Hvergelmir took a step back to flick her thumb across the opal of her second ring, turned in towards her palm.

There was a shimmer through the air, and -- for a moment -- glimmering water that dripped down from nowhere to fleck the ground in pale light -- then two pair of airy, golden hooves touched down to the asphalt as soft as breathing, and the great caribou stood there among them, blue hide flecked with stars, complicated golden rack of antlers dripping in the moonlight.

Hvergelmir stepped backward, toward Megiddo's prone form, and Eikthyrnir followed where she led. She stopped when they'd cleared a place to one side of the fallen soldier, and led the caribou down into a kneel till it was on the ground, legs folded calmly under, and she could slip onto its broad back without climbing. The caribou regarded the others assembled with what seemed to be placid curiosity -- but it appeared to understand what was wanted of it, and waited politely.

"Someone hand her to me," she said quietly -- and held out a hand in preparation to catch onto the shirt that was staunching Megiddo's bleeding throat when they did.

"You hold the hoodie there," said Colchis to the Page talking to Megiddo. She wasn't doing much of anything beyond being like, a really fleshy tablet? So she could do this. She carefully wiggled her arms under Megiddo's shoulders and the small of her back, then thought better of it, cocking her elbow up like the knight was some kind of oversized baby so she could support Megiddo's head.

Megiddo was a little heavy. Okay, a lot heavy. But Colchis was strong! She'd done weight lifting with her dad, and he was probably so buff. Lifting with her knees, she got Megiddo up and, moving slowly so as not to displace Ploutonion or the hoodie, brought Megiddo over to Hvergelmir. "You'll be careful, right," she said, but it was a dumb question. The beautiful evening-gown knight was really smart! "Can you let me know if she's okay? My name's Colchis."

As soon as the armor was off, so were Castor's hands, hints of blood paid no mind as he wiped them on his tunic. His attention wasn't on the knight being moved but rather on Hver. Had she's taken people to the ER before? Was she willing to expose herself? To risk herself? Was an officer on duty at the ER desk as occasionally there was. His worry for the knight extended beyond the basic 'don't die'. His mind was a racetrack, thoughts aiming to be first, to spill out and be heard. He wanted to bite back with scathing remarks on how if they were such experts on the balance then why were not the royal? Why didn't they offer up names of those worthy or not? But it would be stupid and pointless and help no one. Right now he had to focus. There was too much to cover, not enough time.

"Hver -if you've never dropped anyone off- try to arrive on around the building's side. It's a blind spot for the cameras and who's ever on duty. If they've got an officer they might see you and draw their weapons. Keep an eye on which nurse tabs her in if you can. I'll see if I can't pull some strings to get someone sent to watch over her civilian self." Camlann could know her civilian ID. If he did and had fled with his own wound he could very well be in the same hospital, and that would be.. problematic at best. Even if he lacked a wound, he might see news. He might hear about his botched job- it was just a damn mess the knight had left behind.

"I'll try to track down Camlann in the meantime and get his side of this mess. I'll be in touch." It was the best he could do, and offer. "Megiddo?" He spoke directly at her. "Listen babe 'cuz what I'm telling you is vital. Decline any police interview until your pain meds wear down. No matter what they insist, ask to be left alone or to see a nurse or lawyer. Don't talk. Not until you're stable and coherent. I'll send someone over as soon as I can. Same with flowers okay?"

"The rest of you, we need to move and fast. Three blocks minimum distance, keep skyward. The last thing we need in police seeing one of us fleeing the scene to paint the story as a terrorist attack. A woman stabbed in the throat makes a good headline. The call means it's on record and you know media loves to watch for that s**t. Out of sight. If a chaos agent shows up, whatever you do, don't engage them. Flee. If you want to linger fine, but don't idle, don't get seen. We've probably already alerted some chaos presence." He debated going royal to draw anyone away but-

"You can question my judgements and decisions later, but right now, we need to disperse." He glared at all of them, Megrez included.
"I'm not ******** joking. We need to leave. NOW."

A final note before he turned back to Hver. "Godspeed." With that, Castor simply jumped and began running.

Triage.

By the time another four years rolled by -- if the future still came to pass largely as they'd all envisioned it -- Hvergelmir would have lots of experience with the concept. Most of them would, whether in the literal sense of medical treatment of the wounded, or in the broader sense of practical allocation of resources to problems by relative urgency. It was a straightforward concept.

It was not an easy one.

It was this concept, triage, that bid Hvergelmir leave as soon as possible. Her heart cried out instead, Stay, make your case to these people, make them understand. Remind them they are not the law, remind them that not all things that seem simple are. Remind them that we ask questions first, to ensure we understand that what violence a person must carry out must be done as an act of justice and not of anger. Remind them how chill it sits in the blood to make a mistake when someone else pays the price. Make your case.

There wasn't time for any of that. This Camlann might be in danger -- but Megiddo was certainly dying. Proper triage said she had no extra time to spare for anything else.

Hvergelmir nodded her thanks to Colchis of Mars -- she'd remember to send word -- and to Castor, for what advice he deemed helpful. She cradled Megiddo in both arms, her stronger hand pressed fast to the sweatshirt and the wound.

"Hup," she intoned quietly to Eikthyrnir, who rose up fluidly onto four hooves without jostling either rider. She looked back at the people assembled there, nodding her thanks to them again, then cast her eyes downward, already fixing her destination in her mind. On the ground below, where Megiddo had written Camlann in blood, the steady dripping of well-water from the caribou's hooves had already started the words blurring.

"Go," Hvergelmir said in a low voice -- and whether this was to the great creature carrying her, or to the knights and senshi still assembled, was unclear: in the next breath, without a leap or a sound, without a single movement, the caribou and its human cargo disappeared.

Pale blue sparkles fell to the ground in their wake -- then, like dead embers from fallen fireworks, those too were gone.

Quote:
Hvergelmir and Megiddo out -- presumably everyone can add wrap tags for their own characters if they wish~<3

Andronicus didn't need to be told twice. She watched the caribou and it's riders disappear, a short moment after Castor. The Squire tucked her bloody caplet under one arm and took a few running steps down into the alley. Muscles clenched and tensed, legs pulling her down for a half of a moment. In one fluid motion, the muscles rubber-banded and she shot up into the air in a jump.

She caught the fire escape some two stories up, then scrambled her way up the metal scaffolding and over the roof top. Once her boots hit the roof, she took off running.

It would be unfortunate if Camlann crossed her path this night, regardless of Castor's threat.

Ploutonion did not step away from Megiddo until he was sure she was securely in the hold of the Knight on her strange elk. He hated to let go at all, which was stupid because he had done absolutely nothing even approaching useful, but there was certainly no more he could do, not once both of them vanished.

He wondered, idly, if that was something they could all do, or if that was limited to her, or to her order of Knights.

Not that he was getting any questions answered tonight.

Were he in a more polite and less cautious mood, he might have made a farewell. Instead, he simply started getting away from what undoubtedly looked like a horrible blood-spattered crime scene as quickly as he could.

Glitnir, having received no further instructions aside from "get out," took a few steps away from the group. "You heard the guy. I'm going." Time was still of the essence; if the police caught a group of powered individuals together, it would be a huge mess. He cast one look back at Megrez, who was just sitting there still, and then he fled, bounding up to the rooftops and making for home as fast as he could.

[Glitnir exit!]

Megrez was much slower to move. She had felt Castor's glare on her, and she was wondering if someday that glare would turn into something worse, especially if she decided to pursue Camlann. She had seen Megiddo ferried away in the blink of an eye, and all she could do was pray that Hvergelmir's teleportation aim was true. If she learned that Megiddo had been lost after all... she wouldn't know what to do. She would not think of that situation for long.

She knew she would be in trouble if she didn't leave soon. A heaviness inside her made her not want to move, but soon she pulled herself up and bounded off on the rooftops. Everything was in the hands of fate now.
