The gentleness of the headlock was a little insulting. Well, a lot insulting. Did he think she was some kind of wilting daisy? Because she was! But not that wilting. Mistral said, “Okay, but I could break out of this in like, ten seconds, watch,” and stomped on his insole. When he wrenched downwards, she dropped, and elbowed him in the balls. (Italics for how hard she elbowed him in the balls. They were even italicized in her thoughts.)

“OH MY GOD,” howled Babylon, voice cracking. He had not expected that. He had not expected that at all. They were supposed to be sparring, he thought, a bit dizzily, and immediately let go of the headlock. “Oh my god,” he said, doubling over in pain. It had been a long time since anyone had kicked him in the balls - Tate had done it once as an experiment, after which she had promised never again.
“Oh my god,” repeated Babylon, his henshin faltering. “Holy ********,” said Finn. “Ow. Holy ********.”
He felt a little nauseous.
Okay, he felt a lot nauseous.
He staggered away and tried to very quietly puke, but he didn’t make it very far. “Oh my god,” he said, looking up from his vomit-splattered sneakers. “I think you broke something. Holy s**t. Ow.”

“Oh my god,” said Mistral, feeling a bunch like an a*****e and a little like one of those kids’ toys that recording like, two seconds of sound, and then repeated it back. “I am so sorry. I am so sorry. I am--oh my god, let me help, I really didn’t think I was that strong!” She crossed the roof, circling around Mendel--who was going crazy with the barking--and tugged Finn away from his… mess? But then what? No one covered ‘what do when I put a friend’s balls up beneath his sternum’ in wilderness survival certification courses. And her certification had lapsed anyway!
She said, “Oh my god. Is--do you need to go to the hospital? I’m sorry.”

“Yeah, uh, yeah,” said Finn, who felt less nauseous now and more all-around lightheaded. The hospital sounded good. He’d come up with some kind of bullshit excuse and - yeah. They should go do this. “That sounds safe. s**t. I want kids someday? Um. Yeah. Is your car near here?” <********. ********. Everything hurt, and he was dying.
