Illuminated Apparition

User Image Aveshar felt some sense of tension flee as soon as they were within the cave. Here was a well-hidden Den, very near the heart of his territory. Here he was master, and nothing moved without his knowing. While having a stranger in the midst would be an adjustment, it would be no great hardship. He knew every rock and tree here, and if a Skinwalker crossed his borders, he would know it.

Even taking Nene through one of the more direct paths -as he rather doubted she had the strength to take the spiraling trail- the walk had not been a short one. Still, as soon as he left her he could take flight, and follow their path to his border to make sure there was no trouble before going on ahead to fetch Kel. With luck, he could light a fire under the unicorn stallion and be back to keep an eye on matters before she woke.

He hesitated when she gasped, glancing around the cave in search of whatever seemed to have startled her. Instead it seemed like she was surprised rather than alarmed, and he cast another glance at the ceiling of the cave and gave a faint smile. Ahh, that. There were other caves, of course, and many still within his territory. Some smaller, some with ceilings of crystal or with the entrance framed with glowing mushrooms. But they were here, in his favorite.

"They are pleasing to behold, are they not?" He murmured, amused as she began to settle herself into the fresh bedding. "There are any number of other ways to find natural lighting in caves.. With crystals or mushrooms or venting that allows light in... But they seemed, the most suitable. I am very fond of stars."

He turned his eyes down to her after admiring the roof for a moment more, and gave a faint nod. "You are welcome, of course, and I seek no such repayment nor do I recall mentioning it. You injure me to bring it up, you know."

Aveshar tilted his head, faintly questioning when she agreed with him about violets but seemed to apply it to someone else. Perhaps someone in her home herd, a sibling or friend. Regardless, she didn't seem to think much of herself. "Everyone knows that Dandelions are the best to bestow wishes upon."

He gave a low snort when she mentioned something about helping him gather, shaking his head with a faint tsk. "You will do nothing of the sort, but rest. I am more than capable of tending for myself, and there are many errands to be done."

He didn't want to tell her it was doubtful he would sleep, it just seemed like the sort of thing that would make her worry. Instead he craned his head down to ensure she was as comfortable as possible, and nuzzled at her cheek with something like fondness. "Rest now, Lady Nenetl. I will go see about your attackers and fetch you a Healer. We should be back before you awaken."

With a faint smile he turned and exited the cave, glancing back over his shoulder briefly before flaring his wings wide and leaping into the sky. He had Skinwalkers to hunt, and a brother to fetch. The night would be busy indeed. And if he was amused by the faint tingling sensation that a silken cheek left against his muzzle, well, no one need know of that.

They were....it was magnificent in its own right, as if the ceiling of his cave was but the skies above in the dead of night. She'd found himself watching it closely until he began to talk again, and then the weight of what she'd said pressed down on her conscious.

With half lidded eyes she turned her face down, looking to the plush bedding below her while she retreated into her mind once more. Why did she have to be that way, she wondered. As much as she'd wanted to do the right thing, perhaps it was too much...a push too far. He'd done it out of kindness, and while she knew that he wasn't seeking anything in return well - she assumed it was only natural when you owed someone so much to try and repay them somehow. She did not flinch when he'd countered her argument on Dandilions, instead it left her with more questions than answers.

Since when did wishes on weeds come true... She thought, forlornly. She was alive from a wish on a star, something of such grace and beauty.

"Sorry..." She breathed out, finally. She supposed she would rest, and try and find a way to help in ways he wouldn't realize; for such a notion seemed upsetting for him.

Yet that thought would have to wait, as suddenly his face was right near her own; eyes widening as the strong muzzle pressed against her cheek with a nuzzling motion. She felt a shiver shoot down her spine, her breath hitching for a moment. She only looked up in awe as he'd turned and moved out of sight of the cave, leaving her with nothing more than the sounds of strong flapping wings and the feverish pounding of her own heart in her ears.

It would be some time before she'd be able to fall asleep, the fire of her blush and the heat on her cheek from his touch keeping her awake in her thoughts. However as time stretched on, her head began to swim in heat from her pain and a growing infection from who knew what on the claws which had torn her flesh. Slowly Nenetl has slipped from the world of consciousness to rest, her breathing rate rising as her body began to fight off infection and try to heal itself. It would be some time before she awoke, lulled further by the gentle trickle of the water in his cave and the scent of the prince who'd promise to return.

User Image Aveshar was, strangely content in the idea that she was impressed by his dwelling, pleased that she seemed ready to settle and rest until he could return with proper help. Maybe his words had given her something to think about, maybe she was merely tired from her ordeal.

Regardless he withdrew without further comment, stepping outside of the cave with a final glance over his back. Content she would not be followed or found, he launched himself skyward, winging quickly to the location he had first found her. There was some trailing blood, which he quickly landed near and covered with dirt, making sure to eradicate all evidence of her passage with his own pawing strides. Seeing no Skinwalkers had yet arrived he returned to the air, making a quick circle of the area before determining they had not followed.

'Good. See to it that you do not.' He warned them silently, and then went winging toward the glade he knew his brother dwelled in. 'Little Brother, I have a task for you.'

***

Happily enough, Kel's mate and his obnoxious offspring seemed to be away, perhaps visiting the family or walking into the mouth of trouble. Who knew? Aveshar cared not. Instead he was pleased only by the opportunity to land without worrying about them being underfoot. Amusingly enough, Kel had been dead-asleep until about the time Aveshar affixed his fangs in the proud crest of his brother's neck, and actually lifted the other stallion to his hooves.

Refusing to slow or explain himself, Aveshar had dragged Kel bodily at least half the way before the unicorn stallion had actually planted his hooves and staunchly refused to be moved until he received an explanation. Mindful of the time, Aveshar reluctantly let go and explained in further detail. Once he had the unicorn stallion had been, accepting of matters, and agreed to come along under his own power rather than be dragged. Which merely allowed Aveshar the remainder of the journey to lecture his brother on what was and was not accepted.

"You are not to ask about her herd or her family, about a Clan or home or even her kin." He continued off of the long list he had prepared on his flight out, giving Kel a warning glare every third word. "You will not ask questions beyond how she was harmed, and even then only when it is specifically required for the healing.

User Image "You will not ask questions beyond how she was harmed, and even then only when it is specifically required for the healing."

Ahead Aveshar continued on with his usual maddening arrogance, his lecture seeming never-ending and Kelakohr rolled his eyes. At the moment he found it was easier to merely be silent, as he continued to follow the Kalona stallion's lead, winding through territory fraught with who-knew-what.

'You I missed not at all, Brother.' Kel's mind mutters scathingly, and his tone is strong with sarcasm when he does speak. "Can I at least ask her name?"

"You may not." Aveshar's tone is hard and sharp with finality, and in the glance he tosses over his shoulder his silver eyes glitter in malicious warning.

Taken aback, Kel actually sputters. "I- I have to at least have her name!"

"No." Aveshar returns bluntly. "You really do not. Of all the things you require for healing, a name is not one of them."

"What should I call her then?" Kel demands.

"You should be careful not to call her anything at all." Again a warning given with glittering eyes. "Call her mine, if it will ease your troubled thoughts, Healer."

The way Aveshar spits the word is almosr an insult in itself. Heavy with the weight of a feud unending, a war forever unfinished. There is the weight of bodies behind it, of sharp fangs in his neck and his hooves hitting flesh. Kel has no interest in rekindling that old argument, not when a life may be in danger.

Instead he takes an alternate route in the present disagreement. "Why can't I have her name?"

Aveshar's voice is silken, mockingly gentle. "For now, Dearest Brother, in the interest of your continued safety and that of your line... It is best if you assume there is no part of her I do not guard with the utmost jealousy."

"Including her name?"

"Including her name."

User Image Muscles tight with tension and fury (but nothing like concern) Aveshar paced back and forth from nest-site to the opening of the cave, alternating between staring over Kel's shoulder and glaring at the night in some strange hope for Skinwalkers. He both wished to oversee each moment of the healing, and to vent the restless energy in his blood on something worthy if his ire. As things stood, it was rather difficult to be unendingly furious with Kelakohr when he was actually being of use.

"What in the Fayths name happened to her?" Kelakohr wondered allowed, taking a momentary break from using his healing horn to assess the damage.

"You are not allowed to ask her questions." Aveshar spat, his tone a low snarl of warning.

"I am not asking her questions, I am asking you questions!" Kelakohr fired back, his eyes blazing bright. "She's got an infection and her fever keeps spiking, and I can't heal her if I don't know what happened to her. Now, what in Fayth's name happened!?"

Uncharacteristically chastised, Aveshar pinned his ears but reponded in a lower tone. "Skinwalkers, a pair of them from what she described. I've no notion of where she was coming from or what she was doing, I found her at the border of my lands."

Kel hissed in a wordless fury, skirting around the sleeping mare and bending his head to resume his work. "I might have known. Fine. I need moss of some kind, we need to make a compress and if its soaked with cool water it should also help her fever. Can you be of use to me in that, or do you insist on hovering?"

And without waiting for a response he pointedly turned his back and summoned a bright healing light.

Like it or not, when Kel was in this sort of mood it was easy to see they were related. Rather than responding with a retort of his own Aveshar withdrew, seeking some of the wild green moss that grew nearby. The natural cave he favored was too dry for it, but there was a nearby cluster he could raid... And if more was needed later, he would make that journey too. Wings could get him their in a satisfactory enough timeframe, and it would leave the healing to Kel. Where he could actually be of use.

***

When Aveshar returned he found his brother standing in the mouth of the cave, leaning against a smooth stone wall as though he could not quite manage to support his own weight. Setting the moss aside on a nearby rock the Kalona stallion narrowed his eyes. "Well?"
PostPosted: Sat May 30, 2015 3:58 pm

User Image Kel lifted his head, the glow of his eyes somewhat dulled in his exhaustion. "The first healing is done, and a poultice applied on the wounds that are still open. For now I have healed most of the deeper damage, but she'll need another, maybe two, when I have regained my strength."

He glanced at the moss. "Soak that and apply it to her wing and leg, it should form a seal. Leave it be, for now. And leave me alone while you accomplish it, I've a miserable headache that will be better without your growling."

Because the fight could wait five minutes while he followed the Healer's instructions, Aveshar did as Kel instructed. Lifting the moss he carried it to the natural pool, soaking small sections and carrying it to where Nene lay resting. After the last piece was applied and the blood staunched, he allowed himself a moment to watch her, then turned back to the cave itself.

"You should have a care for your own safety."

"I should." Kel agreed, casually enough. "But since you need her healed you're unlikely to kill me before I've accomplished this task for you. And if you are to kill me, anything I say or do not say during the course of this healing will not save or damn me. So I might as well say exactly what I wish to the homicidal monster that blooded me while I was asleep and dragged me halfway to his den of iniquity to care for an injured female he is likely holding hostage."

Lifting his head and shooting his brother a glare, the Unicorn stallion actually growled. "What are you doing with her, anyway? Is that it? Did you steal her away from a loving family and maul her to keep her captive? Until the second or third healing I'm not even sure she'll be able to use the wing. All I know right now is that I've saved it. Stars know if it will bear her weight. But perhaps that is not your intention? Perhaps you just want to rip it off yourself, later."

Time had passed quickly for the mare lost in the dark sea of her subconsious, as it was here she was free of pain and guilt while her body took the brunt of her illness and strife. She had been contented to rest in that tranquil darkness, illuminated only by gentle lights above...but all dreams had to end. Waking was only natural.

And so she did, her face twisting into a grimace as she felt the connection return to her body and boy did it hurt. A sudden chill flared on her leg and wing, feeling a cold droplet roll on her skin marred by the walkers. Someone was here, it must have been Ave and the healer he spoke of. Cracking open her eyes slowly the world around her was slightly blurred due to her fever, she was warm, but she could also feel the miniscule relief washing over her. She'd been healed once before as a foal with a scrape on her hip from tumbling into a thorn bush...and the tingling feeling in her soul then felt similar now. Nene knew she'd been blessed with healing magic.

Gently stretching out her most injured leg she was relieved its motion did not cause her the severity of pain she'd felt prior, yet when she'd gone to move her wing....she was dismayed that she till could not will it to move. With a low sigh, she knew she might have to come to the realization it would never again allow her to head into the skies...but she was alive.

Blessed, she was.

Words began to filter into her ears as she lifted her head, turning her overslept eyes to the mouth of the cave. There seemed to be talking, a voice she did not recognize and then the smooth tones of Aveshar, and she listened to the last bit of conversation. That was...till a sharp pain struck her soul.

Steal her? Maul her? Hurt her himself? Her jaw tensed, her eyes closed as hot, frustrated tears burned the gold behind them. How could that voice say such awful things! Forcing herself to stand, as her legs and knees wobbled with the weight and the instability of her fading fever, she set the moss gently on the bedding for the time being and slowly walked out from behind the gentle curve of the cave which kept her hidden. She could see the purple stallion against the wall, and Aveshar but a few paces away.

"Stop!" She snapped, an air of strength and bite to her tone...but it seemed like she'd almost spooked herself with her own tone; before her shoulders slumped and whatever strength and confidence she had faded in the breeze."D-d-d-dont say those things.....it's not...it's not true!" Bright golden eyes glittered, partially from her tears partially from the pain she felt behind them. "Ave has been nothing but m-m-my saving grace. I owe him my life...as much as he doesn't want me to say it. He w-wont even accept my gratitude. He's been...so selfless, and I have been so...so burdensome." She unfurled her good wing and wiped the falling tears from her face, they just wouldn't stop. "I don't deserve his kindness....but he's given it to me without question in spades. So please...please don't talk like that about him. I don't know either of you very well...but I know you are both good!" She took a sharp breath, giving her head a little shake to try and stop her tears.

"I'm sorry...." She bit her lip gently, although part of her was not sorry...she'd meant what she did; just maybe not in the manner of which it came across. "But...where are my manners." True, as much as she wanted to go on and on about the kindness of Aveshar, it would be rude. "Y-you healed me...right? I'm Nenetl...thank you....thank you very much." She dipped her head, and swayed a little in the process; only left to wonder how she'd managed to be so fortunate.

User Image Distantly Aveshar is aware that he has been far more patient with his brother this evening than he has been in, well, years. Perhaps absence did make the heart grow fonder, for it was far easier to be tolerant of Kelakohr's existence wasn't he wasn't actually around to remind Aveshar that he existed. As it stood, in the last few hours the Unicorn had about neared the end of the Kalona Stallion's patience, and would get himself bitten (again) if he wasn't smart about it.

"Have a care." Aveshar warned, ears laid back and teeth bared as he took a menacing step forward. "Just because I need you alive does not mean I'll allow you to speak in such a way. Healer or not, Kelakohr Damian Mystère, you should watch how you speak. I know you as well as I know my own self, and if I wanted to kill you I could."

***

He near threw his head when Nene rounded the corner, spinning to berate her -gently- for leaving her sickbed. Didn't she know she needed to rest after a healing such as that? Her wounds were still fresh and likely to bleed if jostled, and he wasn't sure he could stand the sight of her blood -more precious than gold- staining the stone of his home.

His voice is gentle when he speaks to her. "You should be resting."

When she spoke up in his defense he tossed a glare toward Kel, eyes narrow in a warning not to argue with her. "Not a burden, come now. You're wavering on your hooves..."

With a soft sigh he drifted to her side without prompting, tail curling gently around her hindquarters to encourage her to lean against him again. "Here now, like when we walked to the cave the first time, hmmm? You are still healing and should still be resting, you know. As for all of that, Kel is just very tired and very worried. He worries about all his patients, it helps him if he can growl at someone. All bark, that one. And I know which of us have the worst bite. It is not he."

He wanted to growl when she gave Kel her name, but swallowed it with another warning glare at the Unicorn. Pitching his voice gentle and soothing, he tries again, crooning her name. "Nenetl... Lean on me, let me help you settle down back inside hmm?"

User Image Probably since the moment Aveshar had woken him up that evening, Kel had wanted to do several inadvisable things. Several of them involved pushing his brother off a cliff, but that wasn't the most readily available scenario and Aveshar had wings, so largely he contented himself with imagining.

"I am done tip-toeing around you as though we are still colts and you are bigger and stronger." Kelakohr snapped back, ears laying flat for a moment. "I don't have to get along with you to appease mother or set a good example for our sisters. At this point, I don't have to do much of anything. You woke me up, you dragged me here, you can live through a few questions! Answer me, did you just bring me here to heal her so you could hurt her again?"

And then his little patient was suddenly out there with them in the night air, standing on her injured leg and dragging that injured wing. Kel wanted to whistle in outright fury and dodge away when she snapped at him unexpectedly. The next moment the strength and ire in her tone was gone, and she was stuttering and sweet and crying.

"Lady, please don't cry." Kel tries awkwardly, drifting forward but stopping when Aveshar beats him to the mare's side. "I didn't, that is... It was not my intention to upset you."

He didn't know what to make of her assessment of Aveshar's character or his 'selfless' attitude, but he certainly wasn't going to argue with her on that score. Tired and stressed or not, he liked his head where it was, and if he tried to argue with this mare that would be the first thing Aveshar would take off.

Watching her bite her lip and look so injured and worried and upset, Kel felt most of the fight just drain out of him. He gave a soft sigh, shoulders sinking only slightly. "I did, My Lady. And I am sorry for awakening you, and upsetting you. It was most, unprofessional of me."

He couldn't help glance at Aveshar once her name was spoken, before turning his eyes back to her and giving a bow. "Well met, Lady Nenetl. I am Kelakohr, your Healer for the evening."

Shuddering as the swirl of emotions were calming in her soul, Nene couldn't remember a time before where she'd been so worked up enough to raise her voice at someone. Such anger...even if for most souls it was nothing more than a mild irritation for Nene it felt like a demon of rage had torn through her entire being. It was truly frightening that she'd felt such awful feelings, even if for a noble cause of defending something she believed in.

Was this what the outside world was about? She really had nothing to be irked about at home...nothing to get so mad about. Now....look at her.

As Aveshar made it to her side, it took little time for her to relax once more into his side; shifting a bit uncomfortably now that her mind was free to once again feel the pain of her injuries. Her ears had flattened into her hair as her confidence deflated as quickly as it rose; half lidded eyes glancing to Ave and Kel respectively. "I-i'm sorry..." It sounded like they knew one another, fairly well in the way there were talking. Perhaps there was some grudge? She felt especially worse hearing Ave mention that Kel had been worried and needed a vent...and here she snapped at him; when it was her fault.

Nene knew she'd need to rest as it would aid in Kel's healing, as getting up would only halt or worse...backtrack her healing. However....in good conscious she could not leave her rudeness unaddressed. "Please accept my apologies, Sir Kel...." She made note of how kind and formal he was...so regal in his attitude - kind of like Aveshar. "I'm sorry to have had you disturbed at such a hour on my behalf..only to snap at you in such a horrible manner...I'm really grateful to you..." Lifting her head up, she glanced to Ave, giving a gentle nod of her head. "I'm ready..." She said softly, barely a whisper as she shifted her body to get ready to turn and make but the few steps back. "...I'll be good...I promise."

She just couldn't cause even more troubles to the princes tonight.

User Image True enough, there was something infinitely gratifying about watching this little lost mare take his brother to task. The difference in their statures would make it humorous enough, if not for the fact that Aveshar himself felt slightly chastised when she flew up out of the bedding and came to scold them. Still, whether she was right or not (and she was both, in turns, he and Kel knew it) the Unicorn could not argue with her. He just couldn't.

Kel was a gentleman and a healer besides, and he'd poured enough work into her to know what had happened to get her here, had an idea even if Aveshar would rather he did not. And for all the work behind him, there was still much left to do besides. The last thing the Unicorn would do was argue with his patient, though it would twist his tail not to. Even now Aveshar could almost see how his brother longed to save Nene from him, to drag her to a corner and hiss as many negative qualities as he could mention before Aveshar lost his patience.

There wouldn't be many, if he had been stupid enough to try it, but Kel was not. He was noble, and it was killing him, but he was silent.

"There now." Aveshar soothed, content and a little smug when she leaned on him once more. "Better, I think? But better still if you had stayed where you were, and rested. Come now, there is nothing to apologize for."

Except perhaps making him worry, but he couldn't even begin to explain how she had done it or why she should be sorry, so he didn't bother mentioning it at all.

Aveshar gave a soft snort. "Kel does not require your apologies, my Lady. It served him right to earn your ire, saying things where you could hear. Worried or not, a gentleman should always be conscious of his temper around ladies."

He gave his brother a smug glance, pleased by the gentle barb of the comment, almost enough to overlook the annoyance of her apologizing to Kel for the inconvenience. Served him right, he was nigh unbearable. Once again he was denied the right to take his brother's head off, with the mare turning her attention back to him.

"Ready you may be." Aveshar agreed. "Though I am not so sure about the rest of it. A good thing I do not require such a promise, hmm? I simply want you to be well."

User Image Kelakohr was quite sure he was staring, niceties forgotten, at the little whirlwind his patient had become. He had evidently done a solid job on rousing her ire, speaking ill of her rescuer. And how strange was that? To think of Aveshar as some sort of, of, Dark Knight? Ridiculous.

He wanted to inform her and scold her and sweep her away from here all at once, though she didn't seem like she would be inclined to believe him. Based on her reactions and her words, she had already formed an opinion of Aveshar. And no matter what Kel could tell her -and there were many things- he imagined those would only soothe to lessen his own standing in her eyes. They would do nothing for Aveshar's. But that was a tangle for another time, when she was well and he was out of his brother's sight, and could act without rousing the Kalona's ire.

For now he'd just have to try and soothe this little wind, and ignore Aveshar's smug expression. Her apology made him incline his head in an accepting nod, glad he no longer had to meet gloating silver eyes. "Not at all, Lady Nenetl, not at all. I am the one who is sorry. Aveshar is, correct, it was poorly done of us both. If we wanted to argue we should have done so out of earshot, it is simply due to hot tempers.

'A family trait.' He thought bitterly. Noticing Aveshar's warning glance, he scrambled to respond to the mare in a method that would not end in a second bite.

"Oh, the hour is of no consequence I assure you." He replied quickly. "I am always happy to aid any who might need me... And I am afraid if we waited until morning the outlook would be much darker. As it stands I am very confident that a few more healings will see you well, and eventually you will be able to run and fly without issue. So you see? This is much better, and I assure you I am pleased to help. We will speak again in a little while.. For now, it would be best if you rested until the next healing."

He hoped that would be enough to coax her back into the cave, and give him a moment away from his accursed sibling to wonder exactly when in the hell his life had gotten so complicated.

"There is lots I will need to apologize for...it is just how my life has been." She had been so blessed, and took most of it for granted. As the world opened up in front of her eyes once she left the comforts and security of her herd lands - her family...life was not as rosy as she saw it to be. While Adom and Darius had always been at odds...completely one sided mind you....there was no conflict in their lands. Harsh words like Aveshar and Kel had exchanged just wasn't part of life in her little garden of eden.

In fact, everyone in their herd was friends...and family to the core of it. Always ready to help in any way possible...and although that was true for these two Princes of the night, their relationship with one another was less than...ideal. It wouldn't be right of her to pry, so although her curiosity was scratching at the surface to inquire she pushed it down forcefully and dipped her head once more.

As she was lead back to the beauty and comfort of the cave, the last of what Kel had to say struck her core; and she saw a flashback of what had happened when claws and fangs reached out to grab her pristine body. The hot searing pain that came immediately cause a shiver to race down her spine; pausing her steps with her savior for just a few seconds. "I am prepared to face any consequence of my actions...even if it means I will never fly again. The fact alone that I was saved somehow from it all...that I still have life...is more than I deserve at this point."

Because really, although she desired it so bad to bring something valuable back to her father in the form of information...who was she to do such a bold and dangerous thing. Out of all her full sized siblings...she was probably the worse candidate for the job; and yet she had the nerve to go do so and bother so many in the process. Tossing her head back she smiled, oh so sweetly despite such a sombre and near depressing statement. "I have faith in your abilities, but if by some chance it doesn't...don't fret; i'll be okay with just the air in these lungs. Goodnight, Sir Kel." Nene felt her knees shake, leaning a little more heavily as she resumed the rest of the way with Aveshar till she was back in the comforts of the cave and at the bedding. Her vision blurring a little more from the lingering low grade fever now that her adrenaline over the entire scenario had faded from her body and resolve.

Without a thought before she was on top of the bed, she'd moved her face over to Aveshar's neck and buried it into the black of his neck. "Please....just accept my thanks..." She whispered, barely audible but with such proximity she knew he could hear.

Lowering her body down with the slowest of ease once she slipped her head away, she felt the weight finally give up its strain as she was now comfortably on the bed. Her head lowered with eyes half lidded, exhaustion kicking in for such blatant disregard to her injuries. While out of the grasps of death and infection there was still a ways to go before she could declare herself of health. One final glance up to the Dark knight and she smiled slowly, before the tiredness of her body pulled her into a light unconsciousness; not even strong enough to remain awake to even say goodnight.

User Image Turning a cold silver glare on the Unicorn, Aveshar silently warned his brother to silence even as he dared Kel to speak. He rather hoped the other stallion would be so foolish, since if he was Ave would find no guilt in settling Nene back in the cave and threatening his sibling... Again. Like old times. Still, Kel held his silence in disappointingly honorable fashion. Instead he seemed content to merely concentrate on alleviating the mare of any guilty feelings, though at a distance. Then again, no power on earth could get him willingly close to Aveshar, and they both knew it. It was one of the reasons the Kalona had pounced on him before he could wake, dragging him along was easier than the argument that would have occurred.

"There now, you see? Even your Healer agrees." He murmured soothingly, and hoped that would be the end of it as he escorted her back to lay down. Kel has proved useful for once in his life... Won't mother be proud.

At her words Aveshar gave her a faintly disbelieving glance but quickly covered it with a more gentle smile. Best not to argue with her, as she was still injured.

"I can hardly think of a single thing you need apologize for, Nene." He returned gently, nosing a strand of her forelock back into place with a fondness that rather surprised him. "I doubt there have been any terrible things done. And if they are only small missteps, a simple apology should right things."

When she stopped, suddenly stock-still and shivering, Aveshar halted with her and even draped a wing over her back once more. "Kel is confident that with rest and a few additional healings you will be able to run as you could before this injury occurred. He is also hopeful you will once again be able to fly. Let is think of this positively, hmm? You deserve every happiness, and can regain it. I know you can."

He ground his teeth on any further comment, tension running through him until his tail lashed back and forth in annoyance. Things like this were not his forte, by any stretch of the imagination. It made him irritable and rather inclined to bite someone, a pity Kel was out of reach at the moment. Particularly when Nenetl began thanking him.

Then Aveshar really wanted to tear him apart. But there was nothing for it, so he concentrated on returning her to the nest of bedding in the cave and made no further comment. Before he could encourage her to settle, he blinked in surprise at her sudden movement to hide her face against his neck. Considering the plea, he gave a low sigh and a nod. "Your thanks is accepted, My Lady. Now then, at the pleas of both your rescuer and the healer, rest awhile hmmm? I will not be far."

He waited until she was settled before returning to where the moss was soaking, and fetching it a piece at a time. Once again gently wringing out excess water, Aveshar made sure he placed it over all her wounds. His task done, he gave a faint nuzzle to her soft cheek and stepped back out of the cave.

User Image Truth be told, Kelakohr still wasn't entirely sure why this wind mare with her obvious injuries seemed inclined to put her trust in Aveshar. Of all the stallions Kel could think of, his brother was one of the least trustworthy... And while this mare didn't know his brother as Kel did, he still felt like the stallion's appearance should give her pause.

If it had, even during their original encounter, there was no evidence of hesitation now. The mare leaned against Aveshar willingly, completely trusting him to guide her back to the cave and even support her now that she had exhausted herself. It was, bewildering. Enough that Kel wanted to actually speak up and address the matter.

However, Aveshar's initial reaction to maul first and discuss later was well-known to the Unicorn stallion, so when the mare stepped out of Aveshar's dwelling Kel wisely kept his distance. He could see the warning glances too, the narrowing of silver eyes that began when Nenetl shared her name and hadn't seemed to have let up yet. So when Aveshar gave him that clearly warning 'don't you say anything' sort of look, Kel was quiet. He was no fool.

Still, it couldn't hurt -too much- to chime up in support of the mare. So Kel tried his hand at it, a bit. "No apologies needed, Lady, I assure you. It is a pleasure to tend to your injuries, and I am certainly glad to do so now rather than later. As for consequences, I hope you will be a bit more hopeful than that. As I said, I am quite sure you will make a strong recovery, since we have tended to matters so quickly. But please, do rest some more if you can."

He glanced at Aveshar and then back to the mare when she spoke to him, not wishing to seem rude though knowing the black stallion would hate it. "I thank you for your faith in me, and assure you I will do my best. I will not give up just yet, and I hope you will not either. Good night, Lady Nenetl."

Left alone outside of the cave as they disappeared within, Kel let out a low sigh and dropped his head until his muzzle grazed the grass. He had no desire to eat, though he cropped a mouthful of grass and chewed thoughtfully as he stretched his neck. The whole thing was odd indeed, but at least he knew a little of her... He could make some inquiries, if he lived beyond these next few healings.

Lifting his head as Aveshar stepped out of the cave a few moments later , the Unicorn stallion sighed. "Is she asleep?"

At the stallion's nod, Kel returned a nod of his own. "Very well, excuse me, I have healing to do."
