Too needy. Maebe Grace Bertrand had become the kind of girl that was too needy, according to Rep's observation. She giggled, pulling her lower lip between her teeth to push back the sound of her amusement. There had never been a time in her life when she'd have thought she would be that kind of girl.
And she still didn't, but neither did she mind entertaining the thought for a few minutes.
"Maybe I did push him away. He is really flighty. But God, I loved him. He was so good,
so good. When he looked at me, I felt like I was the only person who ever existed. He was worse than a drug." And maybe that did make her sound needy, but she didn't mind. She was controlling her withdrawal symptoms pretty well, as far as she knew. At least she hadn't fallen off the wagon.
More than once.
When Rep told her that he was going to lose Ace because he couldn't deserve anything, she wanted to tell him how much she understood. She wanted to make him see just where her empathy truly came from. But he was just drunk enough to continue pushing that idea away, so she decided not to waste her breath. Rep didn't need her comfort, anyway. He needed -
More booze.
"I want some. Can I have some? I'll be good." She smiled, and nothing about her smile indicated anything good would come from giving her what she wanted.
