“Sometimes,” Xenosa said placing her gaze directly on Keke. “Certain things are better left unanswered.” Like finding out you’d been used to cover something up. Or finding out that your one and only shot at a normal life had been ruined in a single moment. Xenosa was bitter about the whole situation and didn’t know how she could possibly fix it. Her hands clutched together angrily but she released them quickly, she needed to get a hold of herself. This anger was going to swallow her whole if she kept this up. She needed to kill something, the urge was growing and she was going to have to satisfy it.

“I believe it has to do with all three. A noble is very powerful, the rank itself is noble and it comes with much money. “I suppose it must b like Khehorian, though I have not met many Khehorians myself.” She’d had met a bunch of Khehora, got along quite well with them too. “In any case, I think we should rest for now. I could use the sleep.” And with that the Orderite shifted herself so she was laying down on her side, making sure not to hit any of the young Khehoras and tucked herself in into a little ball. “Please wake me up when the storms is done.”

Keke wasn't sure he believed that. Every question had an answer, and he asked a lot of them. If he asked a question, he felt it deserved an answer, unpleasant or not. Knowledge was more than power – it was beauty and delight. ”Hmm.” he said, like the question of why she thought that way. If he ever met her again, maybe he would find out but, as she curled up to rest, he could see that now was neither the time or the place to ask: that was one thing he had developed in his maturity – the ability to know when to ask. ”All right.” some of the other orakoi followed suit, napping in the darkness of Kekeovonnai's wings.

It was a simple task for Keke to endure the sandstorm, his magic deflecting and shifting the sand with ease, though he began to get sore from the standing and battering. Eventually, though, the roar ceased, becoming a growl and then, soon enough, a mere hiss. Keke poked his head out of the tent he had formed with his body and the canvas and peered out at the desert. It had been blasted clean by the sandstorm, smooth and perfect like liquid glass. It was desolate, a few flurries of sand dancing along the dunes, but light seeped in through the dusty air and he hummed quietly as he used his magic to clear off any sand that would prevent him from standing.

”It's done.” he informed his protectees, nudging the little ones awake before moving on – with some slight caution – to Xenosa. ”The storm is done, and now it is time to go to Taliuma, yes?” he was excited – in the aftermath of the storm, and at the prospect of a Magescian city.

Sleep had come easy, she was warm and there were other bodies pressed against her. It was perhaps one of the most peaceful sleeps Xenosa had had in a while. Her husband no longer slept in the same bed as her, not after she’d found him with another man in it and she’d found herself another room in the estate to sleep in. The Orderite woke slowly, knife finding a hidden blade quickly but once she realized where she was she released the cold steel. She was in no danger here, not anymore. Xenosa began to put on her clothing again, covering herself up and becoming one with the colors of the desert once more.

“Alright time to go.” The Orderite exited the tent and made her way around it, digging up her daggers where she had left them. None had gone missing since they’d been covered by sand and thus buried so the wind had no effect upon them. Xenosa placed the cap on her shoulders settled it and looked about. No sign of the men from before, only the endless dunes once more. “Time to head out. Is everyone ready?” The Orderite counted the younglings and then waited on Keke before they set out.

Keke watched Xenosa camouflage herself, intrigued by the depth of her deception. It was such a neat trick, though he had to wonder why she did it. But for now, Taliuma and adventure were foremost on Keke's mind. His students were second. He shepherded them as they tried to take some of their skeletal discoveries with them. ”We can pick them up later.” he reassured them, ”Keep your mouths and claws free, in case we find something else interesting, all right?” there was unanimous agreement as the four students swarmed around Xenosa, and as Keke joined them.

”Yes!” he said, ”All ready to go! Lead the way?” he said, moving to her side. He could not yet see the city in the distance, but he knew that, geographically, it should not be too far...

“Certainly.” Perhaps to show off a little since she had the attentions of the little ones, Xenosa released all of her wings at once. She adored their brilliant shade of magenta on them and she stood out against the browns of the desert. Xenosa began to move forward after examining the sun and checking their location with a compass. By her estimation they weren’t far now so Xen took a good pace as she walked on. “We should be there soon,” She said. “We can also fly there if you wish.” It didn’t matter to her, might be faster by flight.

Keke gaped at the display, awed, and the little ones chirped in astonishment at the brilliant sight of her wings suddenly bursting forth from her back. Neither he nor they had never seen anything like it before – it was amazingly impressive and wonderfully convenient. The only thing comparable was the illusory wings of some khehorians, and they had none of the sort in their tribe. It was marvellous. Magnificent. Magescians were truly remarkable creatures.

”I think it would be best to walk.” he said, composing himself. Wing questions were for later. He needed to focus on the adventure at hand, and save a study of comparative wing anatomy for later.

“But teacher Keke! I want to fly!” There were murmurs of assent from the other children and Keke shook his head. They were all excited over nothing.

”Well, you could do it, but you would be tired before you went more than a few lengths, and you would be falling asleep at the city.” he commented, ”And you don't want to miss the boat, do you?” there was a grumble of agreement. Nobody wanted to miss out on the floating thing.

”Their wings are still small.” he explained to Xenosa, ”They're not ready for more than gliding yet. Riding, however...” he could carry the four on his back. Not for long distance flying but he could save them sore feet if he needed to.

It seemed like everyone was entranced by her wings, it made Xenosa chuckle softly. She personally didn’t think they were that impressive, maybe once she was a master that would change. Three pairs of wings was no joke, she was looking forward to having them. “I’d would be much faster to fly.” She murmured looking across the vast sandy dunes. Especially with children, she couldn’t stay very long out here. The boat was also waiting for her on a tight schedule. Xenosa was thoughtful for a moment thinking things over as Keke gave his explanation to the children.

“I can perhaps carry one with me,” If she adjusted some of her clothing she could make a makeshift pocket to hold one of them in so her arms would not tire out. “That would leave one less for you if you wished to carry them while flying.” It could work. “Doesn’t hurt to give it a try don’t you think?” Even if they didn’t make it as far as she hoped it would give them a great head start. Plus, she was sure the little ones would love to fly with her, Keke only had to approve the idea.

Keke pondered the idea for a moment. They were orakoi, but orakoi were heavier than they looked. Still...

“That's a good idea.” he said, turning to pick out one for her to carry, but he didn't have to: the little Ayrala who had whispered their name in Xenosa's ear wiggled her way off of his back and clambered immediately over to Xenosa, looking up at her with big, soulful emerald eyes. “It looks like they approve too!” he said, amused.

He tested his wings with three on his back, and then tucked one of them under a foreleg and tried again – much better. “I can probably fly like this.” he said, inclining his head “Lead the way!”

Xenosa helped to tuck the Ayrala against her chest then she wrapped her own arms around the bundle as if she was crossing her arms. This would do nicely, she wouldn’t need her arms and if she did she could throw perfectly from both arms. “Good,” then Xenosa gave him a wicked smile. “Try to keep up.” Then her set of wings took her off the ground and towards the city with her feet just a few inches from the ground. She didn’t need to be very high and if something did happen they weren’t far from the ground to get under cover.

No that Xenosa thought anything would happen to them, but you simply did not know. She glanced back to see where Keke was and seeing he was quite fine she kept on going. She increased her speed little by little and always making sure Keke was able to stay with her. Soon enough the city was coming into view. “Look!” Xenosa shouted over the wind rushing past her. “There’s the city.” They’d be there soon enough and then she’d have to get on the boat back to her husband. Oh joy.

Keke had had to take off with just his wings and hindlegs alone, but once airborne, he managed fine with the excited youngsters on his person. He flew a little higher, needing space for his wings to flap, and the higher he went the more his students squealed in delight.

The Ayrala snuggled into her ride, clearly having taken a liking to Xenosa. It was as if she could sense the secrets on the Orderite, and appreciated them herself.

At the city, Keke banked slightly to give the orakoi on his back a better view. “It's all built!” one of them exclaimed.

“Yes.” said Keke, marveling at it, “Twolegs build their own homes, much like Samael does. It means they don't have to worry as much about finding shelter.” He thought it was remarkable, and wished that his father's innovation had caught on. “Other than that, though, Twolegs do many things in their cities!” he flapped, “Maybe Xenosa can tell us what those are?” he asked hopefully.

Xenosa followed Keke as he banked and flew higher so the Ayrala could get a nice view as well of the city. She listened to Keke and she knew he’d directed the question towards her. “It is much like a Khehora community. We live there, trade, and very much so do the same things as Khehora do in their communities.” Xenosa banked some more as she spotted the river and headed in that direction, she’d hit the river and could follow it to the docks from there avoiding having to go through the city. “We have almost arrived.” She motioned with her head at Keke.

Keke was pleased at her explanation – her words giving it better credibility than his would have.

Almost arrived? Ah, all right. he prepared himself for a landing, somewhat awardly taking to the ground next to Xenosa. The students 'assisted' by jumping from his back and (in the case of one) wiggling from his grasp to glide the few feet to the ground, laughing at the joy of using their wings. He corralled them up and herded the excited youngsters to Xenosa.

“Next is the boat, correct?” he asked, “This is your lesson, so it goes by your rules.” he winked at her with a mischeviously glittering emerald eye. Likely, the Orderite had not expected to have such a responsibility on her trip, but... well... she seemed to be enjoying it, and the orakoi too.

He loved being a teacher.

Xenosa landed with grace as was expected of her. A few peopled turned to look at her and then the pack of khehora that followed her. They all probably wondered if she had that many Bonded, Xenosa paid them no head. The Orderite let the Ayrala free and down from her pouch across her chest. She easily spotted her ship among the others ported; it was ornate and far too lavish for her taste. But she had a reputation to uphold and as such she had to deal with it. “It’s right over here, the large ship that looks too pretty to be a ship.”

The Orderite walked with a purpose, closing her wings back into their tattoo form as she almost marched over to the boat. The guards standing at the side spotted her and straightened up; they would recognize her dark plum eyes and vibrant magenta hair anywhere after all. Xenosa stopped in front of them. “The Khehora will be coming aboard for a short while, see to it that I am announced and their presence known.” One of the gaurds nodded and headed up the ramp, there was some yelling and shuffling and Xenosa went onto the ship.

The crew had assembled on one side, the ship was clean as Xenosa remarked and she turned waiting for the young ones to embark.

Keke had no idea what 'too pretty' would look like, but the long, wooden contraption certainly was pretty. “Come along!” he called to the students cheerfully, noticing that some of them were suddenly nervous, “Single file!” He crossed the plank boldly, himself excited to see this piece of magescian technology for himself, and turned to make sure he left no-one behind.

Most embarked with only a little reluctance, but one hesitated at the plank long after the others had gone over. Keke crooned to them gently, sweetly. “Come on, its perfectly safe.” he said, smiling.

The Orakoi, stared at the ship, then at the water below. “I'll fall...” they said, backing up slightly.

“No you won't.” protested Keke, “Do you know why?”

“No...”

“The boards are sturdy. But... do you want me to help you across? Do you want to see the boat?”

The Orakoi hesitated. “Yes.” they said in a small voice.

Keke promptly picked them up and carried them onto the ship. “Let me know if you need to get off.” he cooed, “This is a special, optional field trip. Nobody has to do it.” The hatchlings nodded. They understood.

He turned to Xenosa (gawking slightly at the other Magescians). “Well, show us the ship... Captain?” he asked, queryingly. “Are you its... leader?”

“I’m not the captain per say, but I do give orders around here,” Xenosa mentioned for a man to step forward. “This is the ship’s captain. Jahan has the same rank as me.” He saluted the youngersters before going back to his spot. “Alright time for a bit of a tour.” Xenosa turned and pointed up at the second level above the deck. “That’s where the captain steers the ship, not many are allowed to go up there. Usually it is only him and I.” There was also his second in command who sometimes went up there but it was only to replace the captain.

“Next we go below ground.” Xenosa moved to the stairs that led below. She opened the door for them and led them down the corridor. “The back of the ship is separated by two rooms. One is the captains and we aren’t allowed in there, the other is mine.” She made it to her room and opened the door for them to step inside. “You guys can have a quick look if you want.” It was probably strange for them being inside a ship and all. Her quarters were nice and large but the sailors didn’t have such a luxury, she wondered how they were going to take it.
