The hissing left and he caught a breather. Right before he heard a loud snort.
A boar pawed the ground just behind him, and he took only a split second look over his shoulder before he took off with a yelp. Dawson didn't really watch where he was going so much as focus on keeping moving, and by the time he slowed down and realized he was alone, he had sort of lost track of where he was.

His run had cost him time and he still didn't know where Maebe was. Antsy, Dawson called out her name several times as he traipsed on and caught his breath, wiping sweat from his brow with a worried look. The statues seemed to loom over him menacingly now that he was truly alone.

It took a while for Maebe to save up the willpower to stand. When she did, Dawson was nowhere to be seen, but she still heard him calling her name.
"JUST GO." She yelled out, without knowing whether he could hear her. She trudged through the water, watching her step a little less this time. The vines she stepped on did not appreciate this rudeness, and slammed her right back on the spot she'd been washed up on.
So she stayed there for a few moments, again. Dawson's voice got farther, and farther away.

It took a while, but she was more careful this time. She tiptoed, glaring down at the water and pausing before finding her footing. She made it to the end once more, and pushed her hair back out of her eyes.
"Should have worn a bathing suit under all of this." She muttered regretfully.

This was even moreso the case when the wave returned for a second coming, and washed Maebe back to the beginning shore, leaving her soggier than ever.

She felt like wet seaweed as she trudged back into the water. Her bad mood did not get the best of her this time, as she remembered to be careful walking through the murky waters - that did not save her from how slippery she was now, nor did it save her when she tripped and splattered her entire body into the water, triggering vines that carried her back to her new home, that same spot on the shore.

"Okay." She growled out to an empty room. "Enough of your bullshit. You see here, lake. You can't actually make me any wetter than I already am. And you're starting to actually give me a headache. So let's say, you and me stop this sexy little game we're playing, and actually get along for a minute."
Was she talking to a lake? Of course she was.
She tiptoed through it without incident.

When she arrived at the other end of the lake, she ducked and flattened herself on the floor in preparation for a wave of water that never came. Disgruntled by its failure to launch, Maebe stormed forward, mad as a bull. This offended the actual bull that was waiting for her, who felt ornery enough to charge her and send her flying. Stamina: 11 1/3 Quote: 9: -50% of your remaining HP. A bull rears up, charging you.

Her body sung with pain, but she stood up and quickly checked every inch of her for red. It wasn't blood she was looking for, it was clothing. She hadn't worn red that day, however - but that did not stop the bull from coming around for a second attack.
"Shhh," She put both of her hands up, quietly hushing the bull as it pawed the earth. "Good bull. Nice bull. Pretty bull. I'm not going to hurt you."
It did not return the favor.

Soaked, injured, and grumpy, Maebe finally gave the bull the slip and slunk forward to try and search for Dawson again. Instead, she found a giant marble statue of a three headed dog, which she stared at for just a moment too long. When it came to life, her scream echoed the hallway, which was probably the best indicator that she wasn't too far behind. She came storming through, hiding behind a pillar until the cerberus was out of sight. This seemed as good a place as any to wait for Dawson. Yes, indeed it did. 3/3 Stamina: 3 Quote: 3: - 50% of your remaining HP. A marble cerberus chases you, snapping at your heels.

The garden was pretty but it didn't have the thing he was looking for. Dawson looked at it wistfully before doubling back to go look for Maebe. It was giving him the creeps to be there anyway.

A new day, a new try. Dawson pat the bandages around the dog bites on his arm and scouted ahead, trying to be as stealthy as one his stature could. The statues either were sick of people visiting and just said screw it, or they were really lucky.
Rather than beckon Maebe over, he rounded back and decided to personally escort her in. Just in case. The separation last time hadn't been good for him.

Sockless, shirtless, and hair tied into a much tighter bun, Maebe was ready for those waves of water. She was going to ride them like she was at the beach, and not be mad when they inevitably slammed her into the shore. She was better than this. Better than this whole place. When Dawson came to escort her, she grabbed his arm in a vice, and stuck her tongue out at the statues every time they passed. "You know, this temple is kind of a pain in the a**, but I'm a little surprised. We're not fighting a single shadowling. Don't we like, summon those things just by existing? Or is this place super sacred and shadowling proof?"
