To those watching the transformation would be a brief affair. Dissipation and reformation, though the story displayed on the monitor is more telling, though the whole of it beyond simple visuals.
For Lark it would be an existence, and entire world, transitioning from one to the other. Her core was one of twisting roots and branches, of growing things that took ambling courses and unexpected turns that could grow and grow and grow for close to forever. And now it was being forced into efficient, compact lines, clean edges and stark planes. The pain was excruciating and when it was over she was other. She was an object and a person and she had purpose and she was missing something.
And then she was asleep, and the pain faded back with consciousness, taking with it the sense of loss.
