"Interesting name, but at least, I have something to call you." Monica said with a slight smile. She was going to say, "Nice to meet you, Deadlock, but it would be better under a different situation," but it did not really seem appropriate. Besides, it seemed a bit redundant.

"I probably would not throw around your name anyway. Don't really have anyone else to talk to about my personal life, and even if I did, not exactly something that would come up. They would totally freak." She said as she thought about how crazy her grandmother would act if she was on Earth.

“I can imagine it’s complicated,” he replied. He wasn’t the type of person to toss his life as more difficult in comparison, because complicated was so common that he’d simply sound condescending if he tried to say his was more so. He opened his mouth to speak again, but he heard ringing from his phone. “I need a moment,” he said, politely excusing himself.

He put it beside his ear. “What is it?” He assumed someone needed to die, since it was rare for him to receive a call for anything else. His business was death, and like any good business man, he sought to deliver it in good quality. He’d need to know how soon if there was a limit, if they had any preferences for how they’d die, where they’d die, where to find them, and if the target had backup. Akternatively, they could just give him a name and he’d handle the rest. He only cared to kill for the targets he was specifically given, but killing their protection was complimentary.

A clearly automated voice replied to Deadlock's abrupt question with an equally to-the-point answer. "A request has been made that you find the earth-born Escala named Cormac. He has information that your employer would like. You will be paid for a body but you would be paid extra if you bring Cormac back alive so he can be interrogated. The target was last seen at the Bostrom train station. The records show that he has a ticket for a train scheduled to leave within five hours. Any questions?" Naturally, following the end of the call an image of what they suspected Cormac looked like would be sent to Deadlock but if he had any other questions it would be best to ask now.

Hmm, alive as a preference, uncommon but not manageable. “No, I’ll find him.” He knew all he needed to know. He had an idea of the face, so that would be scanned for his hitlist. His helmet could recognize targets based on these scans, so that he’d be able to identify the target as soon as he was within range, evidently for his scope. If all went smoothly, it’d take one shot to immobolize, then he’d simply need to retrieve the body. If for some reason the target made it on to the train, he’d obviously have to pursue him. He’d bring the jet pack just in case; he wasn’t all that fond of having to use a vehicle, because it interrupted his aiming more than necessary. He liked his guns way too much to waste bullets all because of multitasking with driving and shooting.

"Yes, complicated probably does not even begin to describe it, but why dwell on it when it is just going to make things more complicated." She said, and then, she took her last sip of her tea. The warm liquid always helped her keep her airways clear when allergy season came along. Yes, she had powerful lungs and sinuses, but the pollen still affected her, maybe not as must as a human, but it did.

All of a sudden, his phone rang, and he had to take a call. She did not like to ease drop, but he only said like two sentences, which did not tell her much. It sounded like he had to hunt for some guy, but she did not know who he was, so why would she care. The only people she truly cares about are not even on the Syndicate's radar, so why even get involved. "I guess you have to leave now." She said after he got off the phone and placed her cup in the sink to be washed.

“I’ve got an hour.” Afterwards, he’d simply return to his apartment and prepare. He didn’t really need four hours to prepare. It was just so he’d have a couple minutes to enjoy the view from the side of a building. “You have something about you,” he said, though it was intended to be very literal. He was unusually attracted to her, and it left him very curious, not that she didn’t appeal to the eyes. “What’s your other half?” he asked, trying not to sound rude. He’d recognize his own race, but she had unusual eyes—something he didn’t recognize on the spot because it seemed hazel when they met—as well as an occupation not commonly taken by his kind. If she felt uncomfortable talking about it, he wouldn’t care if she wanted to abandon that idea.

Monica smiled a little when he said that he could stay a little longer while she dried up her mug. She vowed never to care about a Suldari, but there was just something about him. Maybe because she could sense that he had a hard past as well, but she was not going to bring that up. She did not want to get too nosy and too attached too soon. She composed herself and went back to face him. "Something about me?" She asked with a raised brow. "My other half? Empatian. Not exactly compatible with Suldari genes, but I obviously survived past my first year. After that is pretty much smooth sailing, and thanks to my Empatian mother, I got to prove to my Suldari father that I was a survivor."

He was intrigued by the idea, two races sharing incredibly different views combined, allowing a hybrid that miraculously survived. While many races had similar appearances, that didn’t necessarily mean they were meant to reproduce; many children of such unions died or were with severe physical deformations, but it seemed that the the warrior race had the most compatible genes for interbreeding.

He tilted his head slightly leftward to express curiosity. “I’d never imagined two races so different could create something so beautiful,” he said with blunt honesty. Now, unlike humans, to be considered beautiful by his people’s standards were very different; they weren’t as superficial. In human eyes, his people were both attractive and intimidating, so attractiveness was based on warrior qualities by his people’s standards. Her appearance strongly resembled her father’s people, and the fact that she was a hybrid who’d have needed miraculous circumstances simply to have survived birth was impressive. He understood because he was a true native of the homeworld, meaning he witnessed his own people leaving their children to die if they had the slightest sign of deformities.

Monica blush smiled when he called her beautiful, and then, quickly tried to hide it. She then relaxed, realizing it probably was no use. He probably saw it already. Anyway, she knew that the Suldari had a different standard of beauty than the humans, but so did the Empatians. They looked at people's auras to judge another person's beauty. Basically, they judged a person's personality rather than their looks. Her own standards was a mix of the two. She was pretty much attracted to kind, strong men, but Deadlock's mysterious aura was what sparked her interest. "From all the races I know about, I think the Suldari and Empatians are physically the most compatible because they have similar lung structures. However, due to certain opposing genetic material, it takes longer for such a child to stabilize their body functions than a pureblood, and my mother understood that. Thus, she stopped my father from killing me. He left because he still did not believe that I would survive in the long run, but he was wrong. He came back after his family jewels were injured in a battle, so he could not have any more children. He decided to train me to fight, but I was not really interested in making it into a career. Actually, my career choice is kind of strange for an Empatian as well. They usually go into some kind of therapy work or something environmental. I might counsel someone on the side, but I won't do it all the time."

He did notice, but pretended he didn’t. It was interesting how she managed to make herself multiple exceptions. He never really thought about physical compatibility until now, but it made sense when considering something as basic as breathing. He was no geneticist, but common sense played a part in this.

“He played his part…” His own father, though not absent, was distant. He remembered his father, how he taught him, those long, tiring days. He could remember all the phrases, all those words forced into his head, like how he told him that if he weren’t strong, he wasn’t worthy to be called his son. He told him that death would be all he would really know, and he was right. As far as killing children went, Deadlock had a brother, though the key word was “had”. He was lame, and thus was thrown to the pits to die. It was not a quick death; his infant brother was just left there to starve or be eaten by whatever creature lurked in the pits.

“Do you love your father?” he asked. While some would have found the question peculiar, the idea of love between family was very complicated in the world he was born in. What it meant to love one’s family was so different. His father traumatized him, but that was nothing new. If his aura held any reason to its emptiness, it was the result of forcing himself to cope with the traumatic experiences of his life. It was buried so deep that it didn’t reflect on his face. His eyes, if not to strike fear, held an emptiness, a consistent emptiness, whether he was walking through a quiet street, sitting in silence, or pulling the trigger.

"I know..." Monica replied, knowing that her father was just doing what he was taught. "The answer to that question is complicated. I hate him for almost complying to his father, but I love him for listening to my mother." She said, thinking about how she hated her grandfather the most. "My father wanted to please his father so much, and still does. He was the one who always got the whooping while his brother was always his father's favorite. What angered me the most was that my grandfather's favorite son also has a half breed child, and he immediately accepted her. She actually looks exactly like me, and the only reason he hates me is because I came from his idiot son. What a hypocrite?" She said with a little anger in her eyes. "That is why I did not went into a career that required a lot of fighting. I did it out of spite for my grandfather, and the look on his face was priceless when I defeated him in a fight. He did not expected me to combine fighting style from both, the Suldari and Empatians. The Empatians may be peace loving people, but that does not mean they can't defend themselves." She said with a smirk.

Her grandfather sounded like a profound idiot. It was dishonorable enough to lose to anyone other than a full-blood, with no offense to her in mind, but he must’ve foolishly underestimated her. Her grandfather had nothing to prove; likely fighting her with the misconception that she was incapable of putting up a fight, a fatal and childish mistake. Weakness like that was intolerable. “I’m not surprised; we either obsess over being like our fathers or we try to kill them.” Her story managed to bring about a subtle smile. His statement, of course, brought into question which type he was, the kind who heavily obsessed over his father, or the kind that scorned his father. She, of course, wasn’t raised like most of them were, so he expected the half and half response she gave. He’d of been curious what a sight it’d be if she saw what it was like on Suldar, though if she ever step foot on the planet and they realized she wasn’t Suldari, they’d kill her for her lack of blood purity.

"I have figured that out a long time ago." Monica said with a sigh. "I tend to stay away from Suldar and her people." She said before falling silent for a while. From all the men she could have met and open up to, she found a Suldari, who could have easily killed her, but he just let her off with a warning. She found this quite ironic. "I usually stay on Earth, but sometimes I visit Empatia." She said with a subtle smile, thinking about that beautiful planet. "You know what I just realized? I have been going on and on, and you barely said a word." She said, realizing she has been doing most of the talking. "I guess you are not a man of many words."

He was a man of action more than words. “I’m more of a listener. I don’t have very pleasant stories to tell,” he replied, taking a millisecond to glance at his arm. After all, most people generally stayed away from his type, and the fact that he was born on a planet full of warriors, his social skills were little to none. His most effective conversations revolved around how much he was going to get paid for killing someone. Really, he had no justifiable qualities when it came to the things he’d done past vengeance for his near-death experience, beyond the fact that death was all he knew. If all man really knew to do well was kill, was he cruel or a victim to his own given nature?

"I have noticed that with the warrior types. You probably have stories that make my problems look like child's play." Monica said, noticing that he glanced at him arm. She knew that he had to go through something real horrible to loose an arm like that. Surdari are built tough. It takes a lot to do that kind of damage. However, she was not going to push it. She knew that his type like to bottle those things up because they do not want to show weakness. As for the arm, did he want it to look like that to intimate others? She was pretty sure they had the technology to make it look like a normal arm, even if it was a weapon. However, she did not know if it was a weapon or not because she never seen an arm like that before, but she was not stupid as well. She knew there was a possibility, considering his line of work. "I don't usually talk this much myself. Maybe because no one really stopped to listen. Besides, writing down equations and experimenting with atoms does not require a lot of talking."
