Hvergelmir put out a hand, curling her fingers over Kerberos's. "The world deserves better. And you know, if you ever need to get out -- we'll always hold the door." She smiled. "I mean, you brought me brownies. Who doesn't love brownies." This was nice -- nice, for now. She didn't like to think of how their lives might change, down the line. How long would it be before this all fell apart? How long before the war got worse, and no one was allowed to talk to her anymore? How long before there were no benches and brownes? How long until they forced Kerberos to ascend? Things would get worse. They both knew that. They'd dreamed it.

Kerberos raised an eyebrow. "Wow, if I'd known I could bribe my way to freedom with baked goods, I would've started bringing them sooner," he said, and his tone was playful, even if he felt guilty for joking about it.
'You wouldn't want to help me if you knew,' he thought, and the humor drifted out of him. It wasn't quite so funny when he remembered that there was no way it was true.
"Are you expecting anybody else tonight? I don't want to cramp your plans," he said. "...Do you ever expect anybody, or do people just like. Show up."

Hvergelmir shrugged, unconcerned. "People mostly just show up," she explained. "My energy stretches pretty far afield now, so it's easy to sense that I'm here -- and then usually after enough time, people start to wonder why I'm powered up by I haven't move from the same spot for a few hours, and they come looking. Or people come here because they know I'll be around, and they don't know how else to get in touch. Mostly if I'm arranging to meet with someone, this isn't the best place. Everything I do's in confidence, so I try to avoid running the risk of the people I talk to showing up at the same time." She smiled, biting into a brownie. "Visitors with picnics are always a welcome surprise. Still, it's not exactly safe for you to stay too long. I really don't ever know when I'll have company."

Kerberos nodded. That seemed like the best way for her to model this sort of thing - but it also meant that he probably shouldn't stay too much longer, not when there were other people who actually needed - deserved, more properly - her help. His aura might be making them stay away, the dark crackle of a corrupted Super next to her light.
"I won't take up too much more of your time, then," he said, and he started to stand up. "I just...wanted to make sure you were okay. I'm really glad you're okay," he said, and it sounded sort of stupid even as he said it. She was probably not okay, but she was alive and back on her bench and at least that was something, right? At least he'd managed, as far as he could tell, to do one thing right by getting her out.
"I'll try and come by again, but I'm under extra scrutiny right now, so I don't know if I'll be able to slip away again." It didn't matter nearly so much to him if he put himself in danger, but leading someone who wanted to do Hver harm right to her bench? He would never be able to forgive himself if that happened.

Hvergelmir followed Kerberos when he stood up, but not to stop him -- just to lean in and dust a kiss over his cheek. The skin there felt a little cool -- not quite the lifeless cold of porcelain Ascension that she still remembered, sometimes, in dreams -- but a bit sallow somehow, all the same. Maybe it was just the night air. Maybe she imagined it. Maybe she just worried about him. "Take care of yourself, okay?" she cautioned. "Try to stay out of harm's way. Be safe." She worried. Noir Songbird a sentiment so important that she said it three times in three different ways~ we can wrap here or on your next, as you like <3

Kerberos gave Hver a faint smile, and he reached up to briefly rest a hand on her cheek. No, he wouldn't be staying safe- he was never safe, not really. But that was okay, he could make the promise anyway, because maybe it would make her worry about him a little less.
"I'll do my best. You do the same, alright?" He said.
He didn't stick around long enough for an answer. Instead, he took a step away from her and teleported into the night.
