Cee clutched her chest and sputtered. He weaved and waggled in her chair like she might faint, make strange throaty noises of disbelief, and then pulled herself together and cupped a hand behind her ear as if she hadn't heard him right. "Pardon?"

Chance lifted his head and blinked owlishly at Cee.
"Who's Kim Kardashian?" he asked again, complete and utter innocence in his tone. "I mean, the name is kind of familiar, but I don't remember where I've heard it before..."

Cee actually threw her hands in the air then picked up the pile of magazines and slid closer. "Welcome ta yer education." She squashed close, all curves and soft parts, but she was serious about teaching him and she threw open a magazine and pointed (5 times on one page actually) "Kim. Kim. Kim. KANYE. North. That's their beautiful ******** baby."

He didn't mind the nearness, because for once Chance's attention was actually focused on the magazines in Cee's hands. His gaze followed where she was pointing, a look of mild interest on his pale face, sweeping from glossy photograph to glossy photograph.
"They named their kid North?" he asked curiously, squinting down. "Isn't Kanye some sort of singer person?"

"He's a rapper. And a designer now he got this whole fashion thing going on. Which is prooooobly why Kim makin them hard hair decisions cause I think he's dressin her now." Apparently teaching people to navigate the wilds of celebrity news was a good job for her. "Oh mah gah yeah they named their baby girl North. North West.. casue Kanye West. How ******** hilarious right? At least it ain't Apple." Cee blinked at him, head drawing back in disbelief. "How do you not know this s**t?"

Chance's eyes skimmed over the article, trying to figure out what sort of a name Kardashian was and why they had decided to name their kid North West. He lifted his gaze, however, at Cee's incredulous tone and gave her a small, slightly sheepish smile.
"I didn't exactly have a normal life, or access to a TV or anything, really," he said with a laugh. "I'm afraid I'm woefully under informed when it comes to news and celebrities. Sad, I know."

"I read," said Chance. And then, since he was nothing if not honest, and there was really no point in hiding it, "And sex. And eating out, having a drink now and then, the usual."
He smiled at Cee. "Not very exciting, really."

Cee snorted. "Well obviously. But before that." She loved hearing sex listed as a past time though. "Like din't you watch TV and movies an s**t? Moldin yer formative years!" She was affectionately shoulder bumping him.

"Nope," came the reply, Chance laughing. "We didn't have a television, and I only went to school for about two years before I was pulled out. My mother didn't like me watching what she deemed trash, so I spent most of my time reading as a kid."

"Yes," said Chance, with a Very Serious look at Cee. "I am a <******** weird."
But then he laughed, playfully nudging Cee's shoulder with his own.
"We're all weirdos, though."

"I ain't a ******** weirdo." Cee snorted and flipped another page in her magazine, a sheer belligerent denial to be roped in with the all the rest of them. "I'm normal as ******** got to a page of celebrity paparazzi shots, men and women in sweats with no makeup doing things like food shopping or playing with their kids in the park. Cee was mostly interested in Chance though and how his life had gone to leave him so sheltered. "So what yer like religious or something?" With the controlling mom. The avoidance of public education. No TV.

He couldn't help but smile at the denial, in spite of Cee's insistence. Chance sank a little lower into the couch, relaxing with his head back against it as he idly flipped through the magazine that she had given him earlier. Glossy photographs popped out at him here and there, advertisements for makeup and hair products.
"Nah," said Chance with a little laugh. "My mother was too busy ******** around to care much for religion - and for me. She couldn't pay the bills most of the time, so we couldn't afford a TV."
His tone was mild, strangely unaffected by sharing a seemingly serious detail of his past, a distinct lack of bitterness or resentment obvious.

"'At's ******** crazy. So you skipped huh? I mean you came here." Seemed like a good alternative. At least there were ameninites. "What about school though. An like.. I dunno child services and s**t?" Cee was a rich kid. She assumed governement services and law enforcement, essentially, did their jobs.
