It probably is worth a look, if only to try and see as much available information out there as possible about stuff I'm supposed to be taking on. Not like I'm lucky enough to have landed an apprenticeship in asskicking. Those who will, do, Jack.

"This is one of the lucky paths where there's other entrances and exits to use. Some its one way in, one way out. But going out from the actual entrance a way can get to a gate that is in an unused gallery second basement that used to be some part of shopping in one of the old skyscrapers. From there its the fire stair up to street level and we're out. "

"I do this thing about once a week. Not always this place, there's lots of places to find throughout the city. But I came here 'cause its been a while since I had a look what was going on with the street art on the walls. There's some old mine tipples and stuff out in the 'burbs that I was going to hit up and climb around near dawn next week. Good views and colors, but really really rusty. Camera-worthy stuff. " Jack stayed at the halo edges of the lantern, confident that losing the implement wouldn't hinder getting out, but not caring to test the theory without direct need. Barking shins against every waist-level obstacle in the place wasn't the best way to spend the next half hour. "I can lead us out when your ready. Hey, thanks for coming down. It's different to have someone along again. Nice. "

Again? She had someone doing this before? "The invite is appreciated. I've never looked at a city in this way before." Another high hold with the lantern nearest tiled walls revealed graffiti punctuated by grout lines. It lent a strange structure to each piece, as if divided or somehow compartmentalized for easier viewing. Or maybe the artists present used the latticed walls for scaling up what pieces they intended to repaint.

Another rumble sounded overhead, and Shale felt the vibrations in his fingertips. The sunless cores of the subway cherished their history, but spared no hospitality toward those who would crawl her walls. Jack was probably the first in a great while. Shale remembered spotting no tracks on the paths they took - no footprints or dog prints or unnatural conglomerations to mark other life traversing these walls. How long had it been since someone laid the last painted marks for their graffiti, then? Months? Years?

"Would you take me on your next trip?" The question came suddenly, and Shale half-turned to await her response. She looked a cold blue in the LED light, painted jagged with its harsh overtones. It chased away the shadows beneath her eyes, but cast them upward in great mountains that reached for the luminance in her hair. Holding the light higher shaped the mountains into basins that jutted down her face, and cast a fairer glow on the mural etched across the ceiling. So much of it came down already that only the living held the greatest beauty in the place for their simple existence.

All that remained were fairytales telling of days walled off and preserved - Destiny City's Pompeii, buried in modern technology.

The explanations were enlightening. I suppose it's healthy for me to stay away from the sun, sometimes, but I don't think I'm made to traverse these shuttered halls at length. I can feel my nerves building - and the trains passing overhead offer no consolation. I hope you're certain about those exists, Jack.

"It might be time to go."

Jack didn't pull the high collar down, the smile and jaw to go along with the electric blue eyes hidden still beneath mystery. The reveal of the lantern still showed the crinkles of eyes and turn of brows. "When we get topside, we can exchange numbers. I'll call you. "

Jack turned, leaving him the in possession of the lantern, in order to lead to the described way out. He looks like he's got a bit of claustro. Maybe just a first time thing, or could be chronic. No real knowing without trying him through a few other places. And hey, nothing wrong with claustro, just limits some kinds of adventure is all.

"Don't worry, " Jack called back over shoulder on the way to the stairs, "The out is faster than the in and lacks the train splatting."
