Mikah, the faithful seeker.

Dwalin's words and optimism comforted her.- You're right, but you know my mother, formalities and etiquette and all the sort.- Mikah relaxed her posture as the dwarf studied the dagger.- He told me many of the adventures you two had but never about his dagger. Hopefully we could hear it from you later?.

The ranger noticed that, unintentionally they where excluding Ambra from the conversation.- Oh Ambra, please, don't feel bad for me... I'm sure my Father is safe and sound.- she said smiling at her trying to make her feel better.

Mikailah smiled at the Innkeeper and nodded.- I thank you my good lady, I haven't decided what to do but i will consider your offer.

"I'll take a room, please!"
Ambra shouted at the innkeeper in response. She got excited at the mention of the tavern across the way. She now knew what she would be doing this evening. She even had a password for cheap drinks! However, Mikah's voice quickly brought Ambra out of her amber-colored dreams.

"I'm sure he is, and don't you worry about me."
Ambra politely responded. "It sounds like you have a really important mission and I don't want to get in the way... unless you want the help of a little wizard." Ambra added in the last part of her sentence with a bit of an optimistic tone.

"She always was one for formalities, it took her ages to finally stop addressing me so formally." Dwalin continued to look the dagger over, examining every nook of it as if he was looking for something on it."Really? He never told you about how he aquired this dagger? Well sure girl, i'll tell you how this came into his possession later but first let's get our rooms and then something to eat, i'm starving and could use a drink."

Handing the dagger back to the girl after he had finished examining it "Knowing your father like i do, he would of taken a few of them down before being captured." Turning his head towards the innkeeper after she mentioned there was some rooms free "I'm sure we'll be staying in seperate rooms. Now why don't we all head over to that tavern and get something to eat and drink, i'll tell you how your father got this dagger."

]Mikah, the faithful seeker.

Mikah was surprised by Ambra's sudden offer.- R-really? well Thank you! but... It might be really dangerous, and i can't guarantee everything will be fine, even with uncle Dwalin here with us. -The girl smiled at her, she felt thankful by the Tieflings words.- But if you are sure, I would be very pleased if you helped me.

The ranger nodded at the dwarf's exclamation of hunger.- I am very hungry too, let's go find a meal there, will you join us Ambra?.- The girl stretched her hand pointing at the door smiling at her companions. She felt as if everything would go out perfectly.

Amra smiled. "I'd love to come along. I came out here to help people after all. It will be a good chance to see how my mage skills have improved!" This was great, she had just gotten to town and already she was set to go off on a great adventure. Who said nothing ever happens in Clearwell!

Ambra shook her head vigorously at the mention of the tavern. "Yes, I was just thinking about getting something to dr-eat myself. Lets go try out this this Zelda Apology Discount!"

Ambra heads out the door and makes for the tavern with her usual exaggerated walk. She liked how it made her cloak billow behind her. It was her way of making up for her otherwise lack of physical presence.

The Silver Spoon, the tavern across the street from the inn, was a large establishment, with lots of tables, more than most taverns back in the cities. It was obviously constructed to host a large number of patrons. That said, it was currently hosting a large number of patrons.

Everyone, give me a DC 13 Perception check to spot an empty table; else, you'll have to either wait or shoulder your way towards the crowded bar (your choice!) Once one of you makes the check, the others don't have to if they don't want to.

For the new players: What this means is that, in the dice roll thread, roll 1d20 and add your Perception skill bonus from your character sheet to the result. Flames, Dwalin has +3. Mik4ilah, Mikah has +6. You typically get one shot only at a skill check (unless a feat or power lets you reroll). Sometimes, the Dungeon Master (aka D.M., i.e. me) might let you make a second roll -if the circumstances have changed enough to warrant a second attempt-. Sometimes you can be the one to try to change the situation enough to earn yourself a second roll, if you're creative about it (ex: using a spell to help you levitate for a short while).

You guys also have a 'passive' perception score. How this works is, compared to making a perception check, which of you might notice something without actively looking for it. For instance, being in an underground temple, hearing the sudden ringing of distant church bells would be compared to your passive skill. No rolls are required. The DM uses these to determine who hears this, if anyone. Generally, you never "use" your passive perception (or insight) scores. If you want to perceive or be insightful, you must roll for it actively.

Aelgeirr, you haven't made any decision of joining the other adventurers or not - it is okay if you don't. If you go to the tavern after all players have made their check, then you will need a DC 16 perception check to spot them, where ever they end up, or the same DC 13 to find a place to sit by yourself (or to find anyone else you may want to sit with).

Aelgeirr the Vengeful Warlord

The inn smelled like most of the inns Aelgeirr had ever been in. The odor of human cooking wafted back from the kitchen, intermixed somehow with the smell of sulfur that came from somewhere nearby. Aelgeirr couldn't place it though.

With an exasperated sigh, Aeigeirr placed down enough money for three nights at the Inn and made his way to the Silver Spoon. This place smelled more like he expected, sweat, beer, and not-surprisingly less sulfar. Aelgeirr wondered if he should worry about the Inn burning down.....regardless, he started searching for a seat.

Mikah, the faithful seeker.

Mikah followed after Ambra, giggling at the way the tiefling walked.- You know? your cape is quite flappy!-

The silver spoon was quite a populated place. The smell of humanity crawled deep into her nose causing her a bit of disgust and made her wonder what sort of fluids where laid on the floor. She examined the place throughly looking for the best place to sit down, hopefully near a window where the smell would not be a problem for the group.

(perception roll = 20 + 6= 26)

In Dungeon & Dragons, whenever you roll a 20-sided die, the highest result you can get is 20. This is referred to as a 'natural 20'. In combat, there's some special rules for it (mainly, you automatically hit and sometimes do extra damage), but outside of combat, the DM will often (but is not required to, especially if it is a roll a player makes without prompting) reward such a roll with a little extra for the players. This is not supported by the 4th edition rules, but many of us who played 3rd edition kind of house-rule it in, and I'm no exception.

Likewise, the lowest result is a 'natural 1', the worst result you can get. In combat, it's an automatic miss, no matter how awesome you are. Outside of combat, as above, there aren't rules supporting it as an automatic failure in a skill check. As a DM, I don't force extra-bad results in addition to a natural 1, but as a player, I'll often 'punish myself' (dropping my weapon, falling down, et cetra), but that's just creative liberties.

One last thing about skills: You can also sometimes 'Take 10' on a skill check. Basically, outside of combat, when you aren't rushed, threatened, or distracted, you can act like your roll is a natural 10, without actually having to roll. However, this is basically an 'average' result assumed after lots of attempts, so it takes a good deal more time than just a single attempt and succeeding.

Mikah, with a natural 20, you can find exactly the open table you would find most ideal. Feel free to describe it further, if you would wish. In addition, when you sit down there, you find 2 gold pieces that had fallen to the floor by an earlier occupant, your boot gliding across it when you sit.

Mikah, the faithful seeker.

It didn't took her long to find an empty table in what was probably the most convenient place. It was remarkably cleaner than the rest in the place and away from the loudest part of the building, making it a suitable place to talk and plan whatever they where going to start.- Fellows! I see a table follow me!.

"Thanks!" Ambra responded enthusiastically as she took Mikah's words as a compliment. "I think it gives me a more dramatic presence. I've been working on an enchantment to make it perpetually billow in the wind but iit is turning out to be a lot trickier then I anticipated."

Upon entering the Silver Spoon Ambra was dismayed at how it was. She was not expecting this from such a quaint little town. If she wanted busy she could have stayed in the city! Ambra struggles through the crowd as she follows Mikah. Her small presence tended to make her missed by those much bigger then her. None the less, she made her way over to the table and sat down next to Mikah. She drumed her fingers on the table for a moment before looking up at everyone and asking. "So...what does everyone want to get?"

Following the two girls out of the inn towards the tavern, once he got inside it was such a familiar sight since the tavern in Wraitheim was always filled to the brim around this time, he looked around for a table that was empty but it seems that Mikah had found one first. he watched as Ambra had a tough time getting through the crowd to the table which made me laugh a little as he started to push his way through the crowd and sat down at the table "I'm curious to know if they have any Wraitheim silver, it's weak as s**t but damn it tastes good and something meaty, the more meat the better."

Mikah, the faithful seeker.

The talk about food wasn't particularly interesting to her. she didn't felt as hungry as she felt anxious. However she knew it would be wrong to simply sit there while her companions ate so she decided to go for something easy to eat.- I think i'll have some stew or something of the sort.- she said merely to answer the question. She would love to enjoy the company but she was still very worried.

About that time, a waitress would come over - half-elven, like Mikah, and around the same age, though slightly provocatively dressed, and she, erm, 'wore it well'.

"Evening, loves," she would say, smiling very broadly, hand on her hip. She paused when she saw Ambra, but only for the slightest moment, before continuing. "Here for dinner, not drinks? What can I getcha?" She would wait with hand on her hip until you ordered (or sent her away) before leaving.

The room itself was a bit rowdy, but not in the seedy-tavern kind of way. The the establishment seemed to be a bit more upscale, and the people here seemed mostly here to simply have a good time with friends, rather than simply drinking themselves silly.

Dwalin, Mikah, there is something you two feel is off, though, but you can't place it. Nothing bad, just a nagging feeling you got once you sat down.

"Ale please!" Ambra shouted enthusiastically but she then reined it back. She looked around a bit embarrassed before continuing. "I mean, uh, can I have a pint of ale please, and some mutton. We were sent her by the lady at the inn and told to ask for the Zelda apology discount."

Ambra began to fidget around in her seat. It seemed hard for her to sit still or in one place for too long.
